When I was a kid I was certain I'd have at least three kids if not more. Then I got older and discovered that I'm ace (and lesbo-romantic to boot) and I absolutely cannot stand babies. So here I am, nearing 40 and enjoying all that personal time and a perfect figure. :)

I've got to agree. I also felt like her post-Josh friendship with Rebecca was a little contrived. Idk man, there was just some inconsistency in her character that I couldn't quite get my head around.

I really like her though, I feel like I'd enjoy some good well-written fanfics about her. Just happy to see less of her in the show as I feel her character arc was concluded for the moment.

Meh. Sounds like an award I'd have no interest in putting my stuff in the running for, and doesn't really sound very professional either. I don't need to be recognized "because I'm gay". And while all my original work has m/m or f/f, none of it is about "LGBT issues" so whatever.

I'm super sore and am struggling to stand up/sit down because I exercised two days in a row. :)

...what? Meg and Calvin are the same age. In the book at least. Idk if they've changed the ages in the movie or something. But in the book Calvin says he's 14, and Meg's in the 9th grade, so she's almost certainly about 14 too.

What really? The creators said that? Wow. I didn't know about that as I never was all that interested in the show.

I have two fancy cupcakes from the fancy cupcake bakery in my kitchen but don't know which one to eat. They both look amaaazing.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-27 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a pretty extreme example.

On the one hand, I though Meg was in late-middle school, But they're not the same age:

“He’s a couple of grades above me, and he’s on the basketball team.”

The reason he got plastic surgery in the first place is because he wrecked his looks with drugs and alcohol (he became so notorious for his substance abuse back in the 80s that it ruined his career almost completely; the movie The Wrestler was a big comeback for him). I understand going overboard with plastic surgery but in his case the underlying issue was substance abuse rather than just plain old vanity (or not knowing when or how to stop with surgical procedures).

Jelly Belly Beans. It is witchcraft how they are able to mimic all those flavors.

Same here. I'd be a terrible parent and wouldn't wish that on some innocent child.

A 30-second google isn't finding me a source, but I heard about the controversy from multiple people so it must have been around fandom anyway. Apparently the anime creators - I guess when promoting Welcome to the Ballroom? - were talking up the series as not being gay like Yuri on Ice. Apparently, it's not even a case of them being asked about Yuri on Ice (because I could understand getting annoyed if everyone else was constantly comparing your anime to another), they would bring it up on their own. Sort of in a "Yuri on Ice is good but too much about a gay love story" way.

Someone else told me that the anime was made even more, uh, heteronormative(?) than the manga because in the manga, sometimes the women lead the dance but the anime changed it to always be guys. No idea on the accuracy of that.

So anyway, if there were homophobic jabs made, I don't know, and it probably doesn't reflect the views of the original manga author even if there were.

Tsumugi from Sweetness and Lightning. She's so damn adorable.

This. It's funny though that a lot of people get that from their parents, when mine are actually pretty much the only ones who are like, "You do you."

I think it might be nice to have them, but not for many years. Honestly, I hate people pressuring you either way about it. No, I'm not an evil selfish awful person for MAYBE thinking it'd be nice to have kids, someday. But also, if older women (including complete fucking strangers) could please stop with the "WHEN you have kids of your own..." rubbish, that'd be nice.

We obviously don't watch the same shows because I've never seen this storyline.

But in books I've found it's fairly common for a man to find out he has a long-lost son. It's a fairly similar trope, if you think about it.

Dexter popped into my head and I know there are others.

Those are some judgemental-looking babies. Good work, OP.

Everything everyone above me has already said, and also:

- the whole "soft" and "smol" thing. Which, in one of my main fandoms, has seemingly lost all meaning tbh. To the point where it mostly feels like you're just trying to make the fact that you like a character/ship and draw art of them seem socially acceptable to the "all queer women should be soft pure wholesome butterflies" crowd. Which is a frankly ridiculous and a bit offensive POV that I hope ends soon.

Also I can't express my wtf enough at the fact that I've seen people talk about how "smol" a character played by an actress who is five foot six is. I'M that height. I'm taller than at least 75% of other women I meet. It's okay to like someone even if they're not "smol", fandom.

This character is mommy and this character is daddy and these are their kids and this one's the big brother and this one's the little brother and this one's the baby girl and this person's their uncle and she's their aunt and....

For entirely unrelated characters.

My fandom is very limited, but when I see "smol" I sort of assume they are talking about a teenage boy (anime or otherwise) who they probably actually feel some attraction to but go overboard to disguise it as maternal feelings (i.e. "my smol son")

They don't look judgmental to me, but I'm in love with the fat cheeks on the middle baby. Fat cheek babies are the best babies.

injury to order [TW: probable self harm?]

(Anonymous) 2018-01-28 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Hey FS, say, I want to mutilate a character in a fic, I'm not sure how, googling wasn't very helpful and I dare not yet go ask [livejournal.com profile] little_details

Setting: equivalent to nowadays big city in the US.
Character is a male in his early twenties, physically fit but mentally as unstable as needed to be.
I want him to injure his dominant hand in a way that causes loss of sensation and motricity--can be partial, ie not on the whole hand, but permanent--no recovery.

I don't think nerve damage through cutting would do it, because he's more likely to hold the blade with the dominant hand and do it on the opposite side hand?

I've thought about burning: suppose he puts his hand atop a lit big church candle, how fast would it snuff out the flame? how bad would the burn on his palm be?

Other possibility, punching a mirror and have the glass shards cut everything. Is it even possible?

What do you think?
Any other idea?
