Comments like this are encouragement for people with suicidal thoughts to kill themselves. If someone says it's okay to kill yourself as long as you've done something bad enough, they'll start to convince themselves that they've done something bad enough.

Like yeah even monsters have family- but the tragedy is just as much that they loved someone they didn't know was a monster, not just that he died.

I'm a deeply suicidal person and I couldn't disagree more. There is no way to slice this that isn't him doing this to avoid the sentencing. That is not a mentally ill person acting due to their illness, it's a pedophile being confronted with consequences for his crime and running from them.

The motive doesn't matter? It's not just about him. If you think it's okay for one person to commit suicide, you think it could be okay for anyone. By the way, I know this because I've also been suicidal. Surprise!

There's a difference between being okay with a pedophile dying and someone who is suicidal over grades dying. Even I can recognize that.

Thank you. Also, it's important to point out that people can be attracted to children (which is a mental illness and not something they can help) WITHOUT ever actually acting on it and hurting real children either by physically doing it themselves or by participating in child pornography.

Uh. I’m not currently suicidal, but I have been. And, well, no. I actually used to argue myself, as well as friends and family who have wrestled with suicidal thoughts, out of beating themselves up quite so badly by saying “look, whatever fucked up shit your brain’s telling you right now, at least you haven’t eaten a puppy sandwich or lured kids into a panel van, so you can’t be as evil as you think you are.” I’ve seen people post that they’re suicidal on FS before and honestly if you want to help suicidal people on FS, engage those people in conversation and distract them with silly jokes. Don’t defend pedophiles. I had two family members commit suicide because they were raped by one so your reasoning rings really hollow.

Gotta say- apparently he was going to be sentenced for 4-7 years, as part of his plea deal. That is a slap on the wrist. What the fuck.

I wonder why he'd do it over such a small punishment. He was young and good-looking and had money, wasn't a big enough celebrity to be remembered in a few years... why wouldn't he have done his time and then moved to another country to live out his days?
