166. Despite my grievances with a few casting choices, I'm really excited for the dub, too. I got to meet Todd and Michael, the voices of Hikaru and Kyoya, and they both seem really enthusiastic and excited for the project, so I know they'll be doing their best. Caitlin (the director and Haruhi) has been a fan of Ouran for a long time.

I totally get your point, though. Dub-hating on a show that isn't even out yet (and when it IS out, will be on a dual-language audio DVD) is completely pointless and stupid. Lord knows I'll be watching it in both languages.

I feel ashamed of myself to admit this but I'm one of the popular fanartists in my fandom ... but it feels so sad that when you draw your own original artworks... it will get less attentions compared to the fanarts i made. Sometimes I wonder if they really love me for the fanart, or the art itself? And sometimes when they commented on my fanarts, it will be always the kind of comments like .. " oh sexy!", "awesome!" and comment about the character itself... they never commented on how I made those, the art itself.... sigh. I sometimes feel tired doing fanarts because of this. I wonder when I stop making those fanarts... they would love me anymore? I feel really sad and pathetic.

Oh, don't worry, just join the fandom anyway! I personally don't mind the dub - Vic's the only one I have a problem with and that's because of my personal opinion of him. I'm more of a sub fan, and I don't plan to watch the dub, so yeah this doesn't really affect me much. But seriously, join the fandom anyway - I'm sure there are a lot of other fans who like the dub AND sub and just aren't voicing their opinions. :)

166. I kinda feel for you--I don't think that you should feel stupid for looking forward to this dub. Who knows, maybe they will do any okay job with it; dubs have gone up in quality over the years. However, Vic has a lot of really stupid fangirls, many of whom may not have already been into the series, and I'm not looking forward to having to see them around. And also, Vic himself.... Frankly, watching/listening to him fanboy so excessively is downright embarrassing. I don't want him fucking up this fandom with some random crap self-insert shit like he did with FMA. The other problem is that--Funimation just keeps recycling the fuck out of their VAs. Sure, they're great, but can we get some new people? Sometimes it's just downright WEIRD associating a va from one role to another.

I call myself a "recovering Resembool Ranger" because, um, I used to be one. But I got out because....well, between the fangirls, and Vic crossing the line from "this is what I think" to "I AM T3H LORD OF T3H ANIME BOW DOWN AND FOLLOW MY COMMANDS"...no, I can't call myself a hardcore fan of his anymore. Which frustrates the heck out of me. When he comes to my local con soon, I might....call him out on it. I don't know.

That being said, I kinda think the fanboying is endearing to me. I think it's cool that anyone over...25 or so is that into any sort of fandom, no matter who they are. I could be in the minority, though. As for the reused voice actors....I think it's not totally their fault? From what I know, it's very, very hard to make a living in voice acting in general, particularly how the market is right now. You've got to take on a loooot of projects to survive on it...and it can be hard to break into the business, as well. I think altogether it combines so there's just not a lot of voice actors to choose from. I'm not 100% sure about that, it's just what I've heard.

I have a feeling I know who you are (I'm most likely wrong, but I'm making a connection between this secret and a friend's issues with the KH fandom and their reluctance to play TWEWY. Forgive me if I am. :) ).

I know you've heard it a thousand times in these comments, but I'd like to point it out again in a hopefully more gentle version...

Title: Copyright issues, actually. Lovely things, aren't they?

Fandom: I understand a fandom making you reluctant to watch or play something (HI AVATAR), but if that's the only thing stopping you? You need to buck up, kiddo. I dislike the .hack and KH fandoms (among others) and LOATHE the Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends fandom (among some others), but I'm not going to let the fanbrats destroy the enjoyment I have for them.

There will always be bad apples in a fandom, even if you consider it to be one of the better ones out there (HI MARIMITE). My issues from TWEWY's fandom is that their characterization in fics is for the most part pure shit, but I don't actively look for anything in that fandom other than icons anyway.

tl;dr: If the fandom becomes too much, turn your back on them, flip them the bird and enjoy the game/story/show/movie in your own little Happy Place. Or at least with the fellow fans whom you know aren't idiots. :)

I'm actually looking forward to hearing the dub. I think it's only natural people will throw a hissy fit about the voice actor's before it comes out. I'm really really hoping I'll love/grow accustom to the voices of the official dubbed Ouran because I want to support the series, dub or not.

And if the fandom bothers you so much, you could always ignore it? It really is a great game. I kinda don't want to taint my vision of the game with fandom. You should really give it a shot.
