Me too but I have no idea who the next 'lead' character will be.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-24 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to say it'd be Spider-Man, but with the rights situation there, maybe not.

Does the MCU need a single "lead"?

Maybe it's Black Panther given the success of his film?

I feel like after the next two Avengers films they're both goners (whether that be character death or not) and we as viewers are being gently introduced to the idea of a completely new Avengers team. Tbh I'm as burned out on Stark as the next burnt out on Stark person but even as someone more "team Cap" I also feel like he has had a full arc as well.

But certainly out of the two of them I think Tony's potential death will have more permanence than Cap's.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-24 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not opposed to the idea of a new Avengers team but none of the newer additions are all that compelling to me.

I think they'll kill Steve this movie and bring him back the next Avengers. THEN "retire" him in case they need to bring him back for views.

Yeah I think they'll change-up he main line-up too and I think most of the phase 1 characters are gonna go, either via death or just being written out.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-24 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Tbh, the only actor I do care about in these movies is RDJ. I have grown to dislike a majority of the characters, and while there are some I am fond of, them getting recast wouldn't make a difference to me. But RDJ's Tony Stark? Him I still love and want to be happy and watch movies for (...not that I have high hopes of him getting even a second of happiness in any of them anymore).

However, I am aware that fandom is divided over this. I am firmly Team Iron Man and think the only reason Steve Rogers should even be in future movies is to be put on trial for being an anarchist who kills people when they expect him to follow the law. Others have different opinions, different interpretations of the story and characters, and watch for different reasons.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-24 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, is anarchy a thing people are tried for? And honestly, looking at the Avengers 3 trailers, it looks like Iron Man will be back in the action (after encouraging Spiderman to be an anarchist who kills people for a whole movie) just like the rest of them. I don't know why anyone thinks the Sokovia Accords will really have any longterm effects on how the characters act.

Same, I'm only still in it for RDJ's Tony Stark. When he's gone, I will leave as well.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-24 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I love RDJ and his Tony Stark/Iron Man, and I think Evan's Captain Amerika is SO BLAND and BORING, so I couldn't disagree more.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-24 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I just wish Tony Stark would actually keep any of the character development he gets over more than one movie.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-24 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, if it's between Stark or Cap, I'll always pick Stark.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-25 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Chris doesn't have 1/8th the charisma. Or 1/20th the pull that RDJ has behind the scenes.

But I hope RDJ gets to go work on other projects because, frankly, MCU is too crowded and ill-written at this point for Tony's character to do anything interesting. The only MCU movies I've enjoyed lately have been Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-25 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
That pull is one of the big reasons for Disney to can him. They would save A LOT of money by killing him off.

I wouldn't mind Tony Stark so much if he didn't keep taking the spotlight in other characters's movies (ie Steve's third "solo" movie having more content dedicated to Tony's emotional arc than Steve's, and Tony being a ""mentor"" that Peter didn't need in Peter's new debut movie)

(Anonymous) 2018-03-25 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, the PTB had always planned the plot CA:CW as part of the arc to IW. The only reason it was called Capt America was because that was in the original MCU docket. RDJ had nothing to do with the plotting, and resenting Tony Stark for the PTB's decisions is...odd for your mental health choices. He's a fictional character.

And they *used* Tony Stark in Homecoming to make Peter's hero's journey more epic. Tony looked like an old dad and someone Peter had to get around (like hacking his suit) and ultimately, decide to grow up and make his own decisions despite of...that was intentional and a necessary part of the plot. Peter needed a figure to rebel against. Well, he could have been rebelling against Aunt May, which would have been pretty cool too, imho, but I guess we're not there yet (sexism). I'm sure the studios had something to say about that, as well.

Trust me. Disney is NOT hurting for money. If anything, they are more profitable than ever. They can afford RDJ forever.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-25 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
You don't know how Disney works I see.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-25 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
You have a much higher opinion of large corporations than I do. Disney didn't get where it is today by NOT maximizing its profit margin.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-25 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
TBH I'd be much more okay if it felt like Steve was actually allowed to develop and his flaws were actually flaws. They don't feel like it and it instead feels like he's Always Supposed To Be Right. Like his flaws are glossed over. VS Stark whose entire thing is that he's immensely flawed and a giant train wreck.

Let's have T'Challa, Shuri, Bucky, Captain Marvel, and like, Scott and Hope be the new Avengers.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-25 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Or the could cast all new Avengers - like Kate Bishop, Firestar, Captain Britain, Spider-Woman, Jocasta, etc.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who loves them both and wants to lose neither...
