How is your sleeping patterns?

(Anonymous) 2018-03-25 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Insomnia or can you go to sleep at the drop of a hat? Do you sleepwalk or talk? Do you have a lot of dreams? Do you wake up instantly or slowly?

I've had insomnia since I was a kid. On a good night, it takes me at least an hour to fall asleep, usually more. And I will wake up 1-4 times on a good night (5+ on a bad night). And I rarely can get to sleep before 10PM even if I want to, unless I'm so behind on sleep I'm feeling sick.

I have a lot of dreams. And I semi-lucid dream. What I mean by that is that I'm usually aware that I'm dreaming, and I can often direct things to happen. But also there is a lot of time where I know what I want to happen and yet I can't make it. Like, whenever I have Middle Earth dreams, for some reason, the setting always looks modern with cars and everything. I can't get rid of them.

I wake up instantly. And once I'm awake I'm awake (if I'm fully awake). If I want to go back to sleep, it will take another hour.

My back is shit, so I wake up constantly in the middle of the night. Sometimes in a burning sweat. I know a lot of this is on me, because of my increasingly sedentary lifestyle, but it's frustrating as fuck too, trying to get out of it. You know you need to move around more, but you're too tired to do shit and it seems no matter how healthy you eat or how much you move, sleep is still of poor quality.

I have had a few nights where i *could not sleep at all*, but i don't know if it's insomnia if it doesn't happen all the time.

Mostly I sleep fine, but my stupid Crohn's means i'm up once or twice (or, on a bad night, three or four) times a nice to use the toilet.

I generally go right back to sleep, though. Ditto if my cats jump on my head or whatever - I usually fall back asleep within five minutes.

I've had insomnia for years. It's better than it used to be, especially since my anxiety/depression aren't as bad. I still use OTC sleeping pills to fall asleep, and the occasional edible (Indica).

I don't have insomnia but I do take a long time to get to sleep and always have, ever since I was a kid. And every few months I either get an episode of sleep paralysis or a horrific nightmare that fucks up my ability to sleep for the best part of a week which fucks up my pattern.

It could be much worse so I don't gripe much, but it's still not fun.

I usually take an hour to get to sleep. And I wake up 3-4 times a night. However, that changes depending on how stressed I am. If I am relaxed, I usually don't wake up at all.

All I have are nightmares. :( I can't remember ever having a good dream.

I am also the type of person who (on weekdays) goes from asleep to awake in like 15 seconds.

Stay up until way too late, go to work sleep-deprived, try to catch up during the weekend but stay up even longer and try to not sleep the entire day away.

The problem is that no matter how crap I feel in the morning, I never get sleepy after seven in the evening.

I have always slept better during the day. When I was in school I was constantly exhausted because no matter what I did I was up almost all night. I am much better now that I am able to sleep during the day. I am still stuck with the idea that I am supposed to sleep at night, and be awake during the day even though I know it doesn't work for me, and every once in a while I will drive myself nuts trying to get into a "normal" sleeping pattern.

I'm a terrible night owl. I'm more active and alert at night. I can physically make myself go to bed early if I know I have something to do in the morning, but guaranteed I'll just be tossing and turning until about 5 AM anyway. Once I do sleep, I sleep like a baby.

Drop of a hat if I'm trying to sleep, but I'm real good at procrasinating going to sleep. Used to talk and yell all the time but not on meds anymore so it doesn't happen as much. Rarely remember my dreams. Slow only if I'm using alarms.

My sleep patterns have been fucked up for years, to the point where I was on Ambien for a long time, though of course it became less effective as time went on. My doctor decided I didn't need it and I got sick of fighting him about it, so I stopped trying to and have been without it since October. Turns out it was helping more than I realized. These days it's not unusual to be loved by anyone for me to go more than two days without being able to sleep at all, but when I do finally get to sleep I tend to be out cold for up to 18 hours. Nothing I try seems to help me balance it out. I've cut way back on caffeine, I take melatonin, I'm already on muscle relaxers and I've tried OTC sleep remedies (all of which used to be super effective). Frankly, it's maddening, and I'm having a hard time getting my current primary care physician to take the issue seriously. Here's hoping I can find a new one soon...

I can usually fall asleep pretty quickly. But for the occasions that I don't, I do have a prescription for Sonata that I can take.

My main issue is that sometimes I wake up too early, and then it's hard for me to fall back asleep if I know I have to get up within a couple of hours.

When I do get up, it's usually right away though.

As for dreaming, I do tend to have some fucked up dreams. That's when I usually wake up because I don't want to have more fucked up dreams.

I usually fall asleep within 15 minutes and sleep for about 9-10 hours if I'm not interrupted by the alarm clock or a full bladder. I rarely remember any dreams. But every couple months or so I hit this streak of insomnia and my brain won't shut up and let me sleep. Last summer I started taking melatonin and this hasn't happened as often since then.

The the Anon who suggest Nivea Soft - thank you! I actually plumped for plain Nivea Cream (I could not resist the wee, royal-blue tin), and I absolutely love it. :)

On the subject of lotions, Bath and Body Works has come out with these new aloe lotions. They are amazing. I love aloe. It is so great for injuries or breakouts. And the scent I got is mango, my favorite scent pretty much. It isn't too overpowering either. This stuff just makes my skin feel really nice.

Pairing preferences in a fic

(Anonymous) 2018-03-25 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
If you are looking for a fic for a certain pairing (A/B), do you want it to concentrate only on that pairing or will you read fics that also include another pairing (A/C) for those characters?

I've noticed that I'm not interested in fics (or other stories for that matter) where A/B is the endgame, but not the pairing during the story.
