You have your opinion, I have mine.

127. I think he was unable to understand that his WMDs were being sold to terrorists because generally that sort of action is very illegal and treasonous, and he probably thought that the people in his company were smart enough not to do that. Also, the anti-hero is in this decade.

168. Hee. Seconded, but only if Helen Mirren could join.

179. NOT JACKIE!

Hey, sucky mod!

(Anonymous) 2008-07-30 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
How is #154 about fandom?

God, you suck. I only check out this comm once in a while, but every single time I come here you are rejecting secrets that ARE fandom and posting secrets that aren't. When are you going to get your head out of your ass?

Re: Hey, sucky mod!

(Anonymous) 2008-07-30 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
When I submit a secret where the fandom aspect isn't obvious to those not in the fandom, I tell them which fandom it is in the same comment.

176. Sexist? For reals? It was a parody of cutesy guy-meets-girl, it was shy, and the only actual sexist was set up to be a wrong-about-everything jerk as well, like Gaston.

177. I honestly can't understand people like you who get mad/confused/whatever when a bunch of fans like something good. Mostly because "good" is a matter of opinion, but in this case...I'm sick of it always being about Joss Whedon, just as I am sick to death of it always being about RTD or Moffat in DW fandom. Look, I just like the stupid show, okay. I happen to've enjoyed other things the writers have done (or not, in RTD's case), but it doesn't mean that I look upon the writer as if they can do no wrong.
But in no way is having a funny, sweet short about a dorky villian who sings (with fun, cute, clever lyrics and catchy tunes) about his inability to get the girl fail. The end is up for debate, but there's no real fail to be seen in the concept and execution of the first two episodes.
I honestly can't understand why anyone would hate it.

180. Wow, you have got to be a troll. If you're not a troll, you haven't seen Avatar. If you have seen Avatar and you still think that about Katara and Toph, I'm sorry, but you're just stupid. This crosses the line between "fandom opinion" into "real life delibrate ignorance" and is frankly disgusting.

176

[identity profile] manda-babylon.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
No, apparently Joss Whedon is awful because "OMG, HE KILLED THE GIRL!" and "She had a stereotypical personality in a story where everyone except the main character has a stereotypical personality!" Like all of his other work that featured women in empowering and atypical roles is somehow erased because he dared to do something different. The whole thing is stupid and annoying.

It actually worked out better for her: She's now the general and High Commander of the Kuiper Legion (Sailor Makemake, Sailor Varuna, Sailor Quaoar, Sailor Orcus, Sailor Sedna and millions of others), with Sailor Eris as her right-hand woman.

154

[identity profile] deltashade.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The fuck does fandom have to do with who gets elected?

Oh, right, we're responsible for this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G9jA-FGGd8). Well, hell, if that's enough of a reason to make fandom a large enough demographic to significantly affect the election, then the only recourse for Obama if he hopes to recover from this crippling blow is for him to start writing hope-laden fanfiction.

For me, it's because a kid with superpowers saving the world is clearly part of a fantasy setting and a staple of children's books/tv shows. But romance/dating/sex are a part of real life as well. Western culture places so much emphasis on dating and finding your true love, etc, and there are actual 12-year-olds in relationships.

I'm generally fine with the romantic relationships in Avatar because they're well-developed and have an actual basis (the characters fought alongside each other and got to know each other, etc). It does bother me that Aang is twelve, though, and I'm not sure I can ever reconcile that.

[identity profile] jkpolk.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
ZOMG WHY ISN'T THERE A TDK_SECRETS COMM??

:) Just kidding. It just amuses me that some other people (not you) get all up in arms about Doctor Who secrets but ignore how plentiful others can be.

I don't get it. Are we talking something like [livejournal.com profile] iam_the?

121 op

(Anonymous) 2008-07-30 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that's not what I mean at all. I mean, when people think they "are" the... Burger King, for example. No one else is allowed to "be" that character and they throw a hissy fit if that character is taken on places like iam_the.

lol, I posted a very similar secret a few months ago. (http://i26.tinypic.com/e8k5es.gif) If anything, he's gotten even more annyoing since then.

I don't care if he's an important character or not, I still can't bring myself to like him. All that wangst makes me want to bitchslap him rather than feel sorry for him.

I'm talking about 114 by the way

145. When we got back from TDK, my sister's boyfriend asked me if I was scared of Watchmen going mainstream. He's a director, I'm a comics nerd, and I assume he expected me to go on an UNWASHED MASSES B'AAAAAAAW rant.

Instead, I sat there and thought about it for a minute, and realized that the more people who bandwagon, the more people I have to babble about the Minutemen, Dr. Manhattan, and the unsolved mystery of Hooded Justice. So bring on the kink memes, the secrets, the badfic! The more the merrier!

I love him too. It's just... the musical nerd in me just wishes he'd play the Devil's Trill. And it's such a shallow reason to like him. D:

163. Don't spend your time worrying about another person's shitty writing. Focus on improving your own grammar/spelling/proofreading. That will serve your goals much better in the end.

[identity profile] spidersneakers.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
103. Yeah, I don't know about you, but when I see those little clips in the endings of him being miserable, drinking, collapsing etc. I wonder if it's unlikely I'll end up that way. And most likely enjoy it.

130. No, you're not the only one. I'm only in it for the fluff. Sure the porn is nice for fapping, but I don't really have any interest in it beside that.

136

(Anonymous) 2008-07-30 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
LMAO who cares? I find out people have ripped me off and I don't care. If they think my way is an inspiration and would make their icons look better, more power to them.

Re: 136

[identity profile] jkpolk.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I think part of it is how much an artist craves/needs attention and validation. If they don't need it, and just make icons for their own benefit and sharing, then they probably don't care if they're copied. If they thrive on the feedback and attention, they're going to get bent out of shape over theft because someone else is getting attention and praise for the original maker's creativity.

I imagine it's hard to make yourself into a person who doesn't care if you do.
