I definitely hear you on this, though I have had thoughts along that line (never more than fleeting... not a wish as much as a 'here's a situation where something I really want would definitely happen' kind of thing.

Then again, a lot of us are blessed to not have to go through such horrible things, so we don't really understand what the consequences are :\ Though I suppose on the flip side of the flip side, being able to run a marathon (as an example of what a high school friend permanently in a wheelchair used to say 'I wish I could run a marathon') isn't all it's cracked up to be, either--lots of pains and aches and... well. I guess I'm saying this has made me think, you know? About wanting something and saying we want something, and how the two aren't always the same. The Grass Is Greener mentality, I guess?

That's what I did, too. :) I think I stopped reading around the time they had sex on the rock, and then I felt like I could take that as my Happily Ever After and be satisfied. I knew there was no way this could end well, especially not with the repeated mentions of Oscar Wilde and the punishment for sodomy being nearly a death-sentence and of course there's the Easter Rebellion looming....no, thank you, I don't need to go there. I think yaoi has spoiled me terribly (though I really think the book is fantastic, all ~500 pages I've read). :)
