It bugs the hell out of me that people bash SMeyer's religion for the books being bad. Nobody says things about "Catholic propaganda" or ridicules other authors' religions when extremely bad books come out. It's just so absolutely ridiculous.

I was raised Mormon, too -- I'm still kind of Mormon albeit very very inactive -- and I know just what you're saying. It's tiring.

Actually, people do say that. As a matter of fact, Phillip Pullman's hatred for the Chronicles of Narnia as "Christian Propaganda" is a large part of what prompted him to write His Dark Materials (which, lame as it may be, is my chief reason for not reading "Bitter Aethist Propaganda.")

That said, I had no idea people actually brought her religion into it. That's so incredibly lame.

Because really, those books are bad enough on their own merit.

And because dissing someone's beliefs is just stupid.

130 I loved that series and he will always be the best Sherlock Holmes.
133 So your secret is that you're a lesbian? Cause seriously -- her character didn't have much of a personality.
145 I felt bad for laughing at this one. :( It's not because of the submitter, it's because of Robert Downey Jr.
148 I'm anti-death penalty (mostly because it doesn't deter crime and the justice system is very flawed), but I found myself wanting Batman to just kill the Joker off in this movie, even though I knew he wouldn't "break his one rule" or whatever. But yeah, I'm beginning to also think the death penalty is necessary in extreme cases. I mean, I don't think it was wrong to execute Ted Bundy and people like that.
152 What is Christian Bale addicted to? I don't really know anything about him outside of his movies.
160 Unrelated -- but I find it odd how many people hate this show. I still think if it was animated and Starbuck was voiced by Aya Hirano or some shit, everyone and their cousin would be all over it.
178 I feel really sad that he died, and it hurts me when people try to judge him because of the way he died. I know how easy it is to become addicted to a medication, or to alcohol, and what it's like to have a job that stresses you out to the point that it affects how well you sleep. I think most people have experience with one or more of those things, they just want to judge him because he's a famous actor, or because he makes more money than most people, but he was still a human being.

Hey 101, I wrote poetry about 130. That was in the late eighties. I've only written a handful of fannish poems since uni. It's a hundred times harder to make it work than fic. I hope your published poetry is less like mistyped dull prose with extra linebreaks than your secret is.

150. If it makes you feel any better, the only videogame I play is Tetris, at which I am complete rubbish. (T-spins wtf?!)

178. I'm not even a fan, and his death still nags me a little with sadness and fear. Maybe it's just the whole pills thing. Some days it's a little creepy to have a bottle of Valium in the house. Poor bugger.

Re: 101

(Anonymous) 2008-08-12 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Just because it's harder, doesn't make it better. Or good. And yes, my poetry is better, though, I'd hardly call my secret prose, more like complaining or whining in free verse. Bad free verse at that. More work goes into it than went into that secret. And an edit and a proof read. Sorry for the typo.

If they are, then that's good, because they're getting a little variety. I'm not saying one game is better than another, but rather I would like it if people tried a lot of games rather than just sticking to one series. (Truthfully this secret can also apply to someone who stays just in the Tales of series or the Suikoden series, too.)

To this day, his death still haunts me. I can't not cry when it is brought up. I have never been so emotionally invested in a celebrity and I doubt I will ever do so again. 132 - Fuck yes. I was just thinking this morning "hmm, how come I haven't seen any Jonathan Pryce secrets?" And there he is!

152 - Is Jeremy Clarkson in there as a nicotine addict, or is there something I don't know about?

173 - YES. Apart from anything else, it's the only sex any of them have a hope of getting.
