Fandom secrets you're too lazy to make

Post 'em here!

Better Call Saul

(Anonymous) 2018-09-26 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I am SO disappointed in Kim. "Let's do it again"? Oh no, baby, what is you doin', indeed. (Secret bc I seem to be the only one in my corner of the fandom who isn't flipping their shit over "Slippin' Kimmy" [sigh].)

My heart is just sinking over this, because I just KNOW they're going to go too far somehow, and it's going to be the thing that triggers their ultimate separation, the wedge between them that results in Kim being nowhere around by the beginning of Breaking Bad :/

I did love her forceful, kinda dominant demeanor with him at the end of that last episode, thought it was all kinds of hot <3 And for the moment it's kind of exciting and interesting, but it just makes me sad because I know where this is going to lead. :(

I was hoping that they would cancel the new Phoenix movie, but no such luck. How on Earth could anyone who has seen Apocalypse think that Sophie could carry a movie?

I think she can carry a movie. She's just wrong for the role of Jean Gray. Even without the whole Phoenix arc, Jean is supposed to be strong-willed in a way that Sofia can't play. She could play a gentler heroine. A character like Sansa is perfect for her. She's just not right for Jean.

I was going to ask Case if they count as fandoms, but I'll bitch here regardless: I think the admins & mods in one of my Facebook tag groups are cunty as all get out with equally bad taste as the general population they roast.

Which one

I cannot binge watch.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-26 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't matter what it is, how interested I am in something, I can't watch it for more than about two and a half hours in a row. I watched Stranger Things (eight episodes) in about two weeks and have watched the first four episodes of Stranger Things 2 in a week and that feels really fast to me. And okay, part of it may be how creepy and/or gross I find some of the stuff in it, but I actually kind of like the cable/network once a week episode schedule.

Re: I cannot binge watch.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-27 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
No comment on the binge watching (I actually did binge watch Stranger Things, and I have such a low attention span that shows I can successfully binge are few are far between). But on the creepy/gross - I didn't find Stranger Things scary at all, and I'm the biggest wimp in the world. Can't do scary, can't do gore. Nearly zero tolerance, especially for jump scares. But I never really got that sense from Stranger Things. I get it had a creepy vibe, but the fun goonies-esque atmosphere sort of overrode that for me. I never would've thought some people got scared by it.

There was only one event in season 2 that bothered me, but it wasn't shown on screen and it was more the principle of the thing. (people who've seen it can probably guess what I'm referring to)

I love binge watching. My favorite way to watch tv.

There are dozens of us! DOZENS!

For real, though, I hate binge watching. Sounds like I have about the same attention span as you - two hours is my limit for any show at a time. Then it's like a timer going off in my brain like, "Okay, done! Let's get up and do something else now!" I just can't do any more than that. (I'm also still working on the second season of Stranger Things, so maybe you /are/ me...)

I can't do it either. A couple of episodes at a time? Sure. Spending all day/weekend binging the same show? NOPE! I like a weekly schedule, too. If a show is such a plot-heavy serial that I can't remember what's going on if I don't watch it all at once then I'm dropping it.

I like that other people binge watch, though, since I know it means they aren't getting shit done. Makes me feel better about myself if I'm having a lazy weekend.

I really don't care as much about the actors, creators and writers as fandom seems to (generally speaking). I care enough, but there's this fixation I just don't relate to. I wish more people wanted to talk about the canon and not just interviews with the cast.

Re: Fandom secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2018-09-27 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, agreed. I honestly don't give a shit what actors' opinions of a series is. I mean I feel slightly validated if they have the same ship I do, but overall, what should I care?

I can't even give much of a shit about Word of God. I only care about the story.

Re: Fandom secrets you're too lazy to make

(Anonymous) 2018-09-27 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the same way. I just want to talk about the canon, but a lot of my friends want to speculate about what Actor X said and if it means they secretly love Actor Y.

There's a moderately popular artist in my main fandom (though she's been quiet lately) who has gotten away with some intensely shady shit, up to and including throwing one of my best friends under the bus to avoid taking responsibility for drama she 100% created on her own, and the temptation is so, so high to unleash an absolute avalanche of receipts on her to prove to everyone that she was the shitty one all along.

I won't, for a lot of reasons. Not the least of which being that (god help me) I still care about her. But Jesus it burns me that she got away with it, and my friend is still dealing with the repercussions of it.

I don't know if I would be open with my fandom interests with a romantic partner or not. I'm used to people making fun of me for liking nerdy stuff. I just imagine them telling everyone how weird I am after we break up, and it's somehow a lot worse if they have all the facts.

I appreciate a good sitcom and even consider myself a fan of some, but they almost never actually make me laugh. Sometimes, I feel like I'm enjoying them wrong.

I hate, hate, hate the restaged Phantom of the Opera tour’s Red Death design. It’s so boring, even compared to the other dumbed down Masquerade costumes. But the original design is amazing. Examples:

I’m supposed to be scared of this why? ZzZzzzzz....

Bonus creepy redesign. Look ma, rotting ribs! (I love the Hungarian Red Death costume it’s so awesomely morbid)

I will admit that I was very much in Chris Hardwick's corner. The accusations didn't ring true to me. I liked him too much to want to believe that it was true, I never got a "vibe" off of him, however you want to put it. I just didn't believe that he was guilty.

*insert GIF of crying Chris Hardwick on his return ep to Talking Dead*

Until this moment. For some reason I saw it and it felt so false and put on and something in my brain suddenly went "OMG he fucking did it." D: D: D:

(Apologies in advance if this is incomprehensible to anyone who doesn't play League of Legends)

I'm quitting League, mainly because I've got stuff I need to focus on IRL and LoL was taking too much of my time and energy. But I also feel like the toxicity of the community has been getting to me.

I always feel like I'm stuck in games with either a) toxic players who flame anyone that doesn't meet their standards (god FORBID someone use an unconventional rune page/item build on a champion) or b) terrible players who have zero clue about how to play the game (pro-tip kids if you're 30 minutes into a game and your vision score is zero, don't complain when you get caught out by the enemy team because they were hidden in the fog of war).

It really blows because I love playing the game itself - I love learning champion mechanics, pulling off counterplays and outplays, working together with a good team. But League has become so filled with negativity that even when I win a game I don't feel any pride or happiness, just relief that "Thank God that's done, I don't have to deal with these assholes anymore".

(And yeah I've tried finding friends to play with but whenever I friend someone on League there's like a 99% chance they end up being toxic as well so yay, back to square one)

I know it sounds ungrateful but sometimes, I wish some of the people "translating" CN webnovels would just... not try to translate them. Not only do some of them have barely any grasp of anything Chinese and rely almost entirely on machine translations as a base, they also have less then a rudimentary knowledge of English. So their "translations" end up barely comprehensible.

This is especially grating when a group with fairly solid translations drops a project and it gets picked up by one of those other people. Mostly because those projects will usually never get picked up by anyone else again.

I wish certain parts of fandom - especially US American fandom - would understand that black people are not the only racial minority worth representing and that blackwashing other racial minorities isn't nearly as ~woke~ as they think it is.
