Guys, I'm babysitting my friend's cat for a week at my apartment, since she had to go out of town suddenly on an emergency. My apartment allows pets, but you're supposed to pay a pet deposit and monthly pet rent. Since it's only for a few days, I didn't bother to talk to my landlord about it.

But of course, maintenance decided to come into my apartment today randomly (WITHOUT GIVING NOTICE BEFOREHAND!). They left a note about checking something. They didn't mention the cat yet, but now I'm worried they'll get on my case about the cat and charge me lots of money/sue me/kick me out/idk.

How fucked am I. Also, is it even legal for them to enter my apartment without letting me know beforehand? I'm also mad because I has bras out all over the place. Such crappy luck..

they have no legal right to go into your apt without notice unless it's an emergency like the water being left on and the place is all flooded or there's a fire or something.

I mean, worst case scenario, move the cat somewhere else, lie like a trooper and say it was never there, and yell at them for coming into your room without permission and you'll probably be fine

Legally they shouldn't have been in there. Also, where I live it's not legal to charge a pet deposit/refuse to rent to someone with a pet, so check up on the legalities of what they're doing.

Chances are though if you're a good tenant with a good history of payment and no problems and it does come up, tell them the truth that it was just for a few days for a friend; it's unlikely they'll attempt to evict you over it. I'm not even sure they could.

Sort of depends on what they were checking and what your rental agreement is like. There are things like emergency equipment, possible gas leaks, and things that could damage someone else's property that I believe they can check without notice. Also, in your rental agreement, there should be some language about permission to enter.

Maintenance might have a list of who has pets, but also might not and as long as they aren't attacked, might not mention it at all, especially if they were checking lots of apartments.

While maintenance people may get told who has pets so there aren't any surprises, do they even have access to information on who has or hasn't paid the deposit/rent? Would they even know if you were breaking a rule? Would they bother saying anything?

If it comes up at all, just say it was a very sudden emergency and you didn't have time to tell your landlord beforehand. Maybe go on to say you thought it would only be one night or something and it has been going on longer than you expected, in case they ask why you didn't say anything the next day or whatever.

Strict birth control.
You can't tell anyone not to have children, you racist fascist!

Cutting down on spending and polluting.
But, but, economy. Those other countries pollute a lot more, so we don't have to do anything if they don't do it first.

Stopping migration to fragile areas, especially forests.
Those are human lives! You can't stop anyone from going where they want!

I've been looking for Halloween recipes.

Thinks I dislike: half-assed things that are just pre-made cookies with melted chocolate all over them to be ghosts or things like that.

Thinks I like: some really creative stuff. Like gazpacho soup put into these fake syringe servers. Mummy hotdogs are easy to do but still look a little creative. Using powdered donut holes as spider eggs. Meatballs as zombie eyes. Things that are still pretty easy, but just look more interesting than cookie ghosts.

I do like nuts, but I have to eat them on their own. I can't deal with the texture of them when they're IN things, like cookies, or brownies.

Sea salt in sweet things. America's Test Kitchen always tells me "salt is a flavor enhancer!" but I think the sea salt sweets trend has resulted in a lot of people overdoing it and thinking this salty monstrosity they have created is some kind of gourmet masterpiece because SEA SALT. A bar of chocolate with sea salt? Tastes like salty chocolate. Sea salt brownie? This is just a salty brownie. Making things "same, but MORE SALTY" is not an automatic improvement, guys. A little kick of salt might be interesting, but people just lay it on way too thick.
