102. LOL. I'm in the fandom, but I openly make fun of the books and their blind followers at the same time. Twilight is like crack to me. It's so bad, but I'm addicted to it. I understand the dilemma.

132. Rukia is <3.

135. Th-thank you, OP. I always thought I was alone. ;_; ♥

141. I really...don't understand why there's still at least one secret about it on FS now. There's been so many that fangirls should get the hint: you and everyone else want to fuck him. It's not something special and secret. Anyway, I'm starting to see the shift of "I'd hit it" to "shut up."

172. That sounds horribly awesome. The article, not the Joker.

Is Avatar.

I don't feel like looking through 8 pages of comments to see if anyone else has claimed this yet.

Also, 102? It's not why I like the books, but it is why I like Edward Cullen. I feel like I'm one of his few fans who isn't blinded by his dazzles.

[identity profile] vitawash24.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, how is 161 fandom?

111: This is why, when I finally get to hang out my shingle as a therapist, I will somehow have to make it known that I want to work with fans. It sucks to have the fun of your shows taken from you. (Randomly? I hate rewatching shows when I know something embarrassing is about to happen for a character. I literally can't look sometimes.)

127: *cries in her beer again*

166: Without your RDA of smut you get into a mood for...poultry? *beats self with stick*

I feel the need to point out that most criticisms of Twilight don't complain about the fact the relationship between the leads is abusive, but about the same thing you point out yourself - that many of its readers (and the author herself!) see the stalking and obsessive control as a romantic and enviable thing.

133. Right. People are only attracted to the Joker because Heath's dead. Goddamn, these secrets are way more annoying than the Joker "I'd hit it" ones.
143. I love having Broadway movies--even if they suck, there's usually something in there that turns out awesome.
149. ...obviously I have to get my hands on this game. Vimes/Vetinari is awesome.

105. When that movie came out, I read about that scene in the paper, and was so horrified I couldn't stop thinking about it. What a great relief to finally see an image from it and discover that it looks INCREDIBLY FAKE.
111. I had to take a freakin' Xanax to cope with the Doctor Who TV movie. Panic attacks attach themselves to all sorts of stuff. If you haven't already, let your doctor know, and ask for some techniques for reducing your anxiety, both when the panic hits and also just in general.

Friend, everybody feels like they relate to their favorite characters in some way. That's why they're our favorites. And everybody has one or two characters about whom they think "holy zomgs, this person is me in animated form." And everybody has a handful of characters who have inspired them in some small, limited, silly way that quite preposterously helps them to make it through the day. The reason we're all a little bit ashamed to admit this is that, for goodness' sake, these are cartoons and ooooooh the melodrama. But we all feel the same way. You happened to pick an especially emo character to empathize with, so you might get ragged on a little extra, but tough it out. You'll find a few people to engage you in a genuine conversation on the topic of how much he means to you, simply because I guarantee you you are not the only one who feels that way.

(...because I've been in the same place, with different characters, and for some reason I feel like your big sister? I don't even know how old you are...)

Re: 115

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but I can see where the OP was coming from. Shinji is a very detested character among [most] anime fans, who generally expect the hero of a super robot anime to just jump in the damn robot and kick ass, and were probably shocked and dismayed to find a character who reacted to the situation very realistically. So it's kind of hard to admit that you're like Shinji.

102. The plot doesn't show up until Chapter 15 or 16, and everyone knows that Twilight is a fast read. Fast, compelling read =/= good read. If you like reading it because you like shouting, "WAIT WHAT?!" at their relationship, fine. Have it your way. But not everyone who says s/he hates the book is lying.

105. Braaaaaains. I just saw that scene a few days ago.

118. Kira is skipping.

Hehehe.

120. You do realize that this is generally a secrets community (sometimes; it's soapboxy too). As in, the people who admit this stuff keep it to themselves in keeping with the secret nature. Everyone's got skeletons in their closet, and sometimes those skeletons want to put on a top hat and dance to "Puttin' On the Ritz." We're all freaks, you know.

141. Did you post this just to be special? We don't hand out medals for Being Special.

142. I'm more Italian than I am French, and I happily, loudly, and firstly proclaim my French background. French girls are sexier. Et je peux parler un peu de la langue, so it's way cooler. Srsly, go French people.

143. Me too. I'd love to see stuff on Broadway, buuuuuut more often than not that's not a possibility.

157. I'm probably going to be like this in a month or two. I already know my Disney canon.

164. CAPERTILLAR iBROWZ

166. So you chickened out of saying something and made a secret? (I will get better at puns. I will get better at puns.)

168. HOT SKITTY ON WAILORD ACTION

178. The first few sequels were pretty good. At least up until the fifth one. BIG BIG BIG BIG WATERRRRRRR

I don't think OP was trying to be racist at all considering that they are of French heritage. And it's true people in certain countries don't like the French. I'm ethnically very French but I don't like to admit it to people for the same reason OP probably doesn't.

Besides the fact that "French" is a nationality and not a race. And WTF is up with your icon? Turkey is failure?

Believe me, I've been there. I find it really hard to get into new shows, because I'm always all "but what if I don't like it?" "but what if I really like one character and they get killed off?" "but what if I really like it and start caring what happens and it gets all depressing and ends with a Kill Em All Downer Ending, and it makes me miserable for days?".

I spoil myself rotten on every series out there, and end up never watching much of anything. (Although I generally don't regret it. Doctor Who? Doctor Horrible? Supernatural? Torchwood? Firefly/Serenity? Dark Knight? All of these would probably cause far more heartache than enjoyment.)

OMG, my friends kicked me out of their L Word watching group because I ship these two. They're all 'Jenny is a psychotic bitch and doesn't deserve Shane' and I'm all 'But...' and they're all 'Shuuuuuunnnnuh.....' and now I have to watch alone! *emo tear*

115 My best friend is like Shinji, and I'm like Asuka, and we kind of had that sort of relationship growing up. (I even dated an older man.) It was kind of sickening to see how much the show paralleled this aspect of my life.

120 Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

129 I wish people would stop calling other people "elitists" for knowing more about a subject than they do, period. ZOMG YOU GUYS I'M AN ELITIST BECAUSE I ACTUALLY STUDIED HISTORY AND GENDER STUDIES IN COLLEGE HOW DARE I SPEAK AS IF I ACTUALLY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT EITHER SUBJECT

133 (and 141) Didn't we already have seriously like eight secrets saying the exact same thing already? I think the number of backlash TDK secrets has reached a number rivalling that of the "I'd hit the Joker" secrets.

160 We already had like three or four "I'd hit Gordon" secrets, too.

165 Yeah, I didn't really care about the Olympics, either. Aside from the soccer, and I only really watched the US - Holland game anyway.

173 Eh, I think it should be a Ranka x Sheryl end, just because Alto is so lame. I mean, he's a good pilot, he just doesn't seem right for either girl. (But I'd rather him end up with Ranka than Sheryl if I had to choose between the two.)

178 When I went to go see that in the theatre, my dad got stuck in traffic and we ended up missing the entire movie except for the last five or ten minutes. I cried like crazy because I thought I missed out on something amazing, but later when I saw it on VHS I realized how wrong I was.

Also I was like, five years old.

184 I don't think the term "weeaboo" makes sense here. They want to be Japanese so they can enjoy an American film adaptation of an American comic book, or profess their love for an American comic book villain?

154. Aww! I missed out on the Dreamcast era too (bought my first one last year but I still haven't played anything but Napple Tale), but I don't feel so bad because I didn't have the Internet then and no one I knew liked those kinds of games, so I wouldn't have been able to fangirl it anyway.
