160: Just shut up. Coming from Australia, we get EVERYTHING late - sometimes weeks, but usually months and occasionally YEARS. It's hard to have to download everything if you don't have unlimited broadband. And youtube's not always the answer because it's not very good quality and some people prefer to watch their favourite shows without such poor quality visuals. Plus lots of people object to downloading because it's illegal. You really have no right to complain about this. Just get over yourself.

107. I don't really ship it either. I just saw them as playing the twincestieness up for the clients. I do think their relationship is deeper than smexing on the side so... eh. Not that sex is cheap, but they just seem to have that deep mutual understanding that means that sex probably isn't required. I don't know, I'm babbling.

114. I'm not a fan of the series myself, but if the first episode you mean is the camcorder one, try the second and see. If not, it just ain't your thing, chicken wing. Personally, I loved the first episode, mostly for Kyon's deadpan snarking the whole way through, but didn't like the rest of it as much. Eh.

132. All I can say to this, as it's a more personal secret, is that I hope your friend gets the message.

173. Exactly, I felt Light was deluded and L and Near weren't exactly all that moral themselves (although at least they didn't pretend to be). It's a great show for putting characters in different moral standpoints (Papa Yagami being anohter) and it's interesting to see how they parallel.

Yeah! Whenever I question Light's actions or morals in fandom discussions, people always assume I'm holding up L as a moral compass, and it's like - noooo, there aren't really any moral compasses in that series. Even Papa Yagami had a complete block to the facts where his son was concerned for a very long time, so he wasn't working completely in the interests of justice. They were all human, and that's what I loved.

104. Lame-as-heck-secret is lame. Yeah, actually, Shakespeare's got some characters that probably were meant to even have the subtext, but really...if you're "wading through," something is wrong. Watch the plays, rent the movies, something. These things are hilarious and poignant, still.

111. Haven't read the books, but I did read the Hatter M comic series that came out. It was pretty cool.

Some people don't know where the speakeasy-sites are. Heck, some people just have a moral set against downloading episodes. Some people like getting to watch them on TV.

168. Odd, but despite having 7+ guys devoted to her and the prettiest ones in love with her, and her not having any real descrnible talents...she really wasn't a Mary Sue. Though "Tamahome" "Miaka" "Tamahome" "Miaka" got annoying (but at least it made fun of itself).

143) The women in FMA are pretty damn awesome. People who are anime only are really missing out on some great characters.

155) Twilight more resembles the My Little Pony universe than the Buffy one. Buffy is all about women being kick ass as fighting evil and facing dark dilemmas. Twilight is all about going on picnics, feelings and friendship, and pretty things that sparkle.

Like I said... I really am starting to think that we just entered on different views. You entered thinking you'd be impressed while I entered thinking I'd be disappointed. I watched the first 21 episodes of the anime, I was impressed, but could not see the hyper. It was good, but not as great as people made it out to be, so, after hearing my friends bash the manga, I was really not expecting to get past the third volume, but I did, finding myself like the manga a lot. You, on the other hand, from what I gather, really loved the anime and then expected the manga to be much better due to the hype. The manga fell short because you compared it to the anime, which effected you greatly.

Honestly, I see everything you are saying and can say that it makes a hell of a lot of sense. If I had went into the manga looking for something worth the hype that it received online, I'd probably be just as disappointed as you. The characters do lack a sense of balance of those three, but I like them despite that. Ran Fan has more inner strength and physical strength than I ever hope to have and look up to her for it. She cut off her own arm, which required great inner strength to make herself do, but I do see how she lacks development. Winry gains more development, but as you said it is way later in the series than it should be. Honestly, Winry's poor design made me frustrated until she faced Scar a second time, showing that her character isn't unstable any more. She faced Scar straight on and treated him the same way her parents did and felt normal doing so.

As for Riza, would it be okay to agree to disagree? My opinion is very confusing and hard to explain. Then again, I crammed 87 chapters of manga down my throat in the course of 4 days. oO;

I admit Arakawa is not prefect, but compared to the females I'm used to from shonen manga, these have character, but if I compare them to the best female heroines I know, they fall short, but most of the female heroines I like are from video games or from a more selected field of manga. 160. I don't know, I see where those people are coming from. I've had to leave a couple of messageboards completely because spoilers for episodes that had been released in other places and leaked online were tossed around like nothing. For example, there was one board that I really liked, where there were specific boards for discussing the episodes by season, and there were ones for more general discussion. For the most part, people were good about marking the topics that delved into nonreleased episodes, but it was in a fairly innocuous thread (a caption thread) that I was nonchalantly spoiled for one of the biggest twists of the episode. Basically after that, I disconnected with the board, and though I tried to come back later, it just wasn't the same. And all because I preferred to watch the episodes when they actually premiered in the States, rather than get spoiled and have nothing to look forward to.

Haha, yeah, it is still an amazing show. And in the end, UST tends to end up better for fandom than anything definitively canon. I'm kind of hoping there'll be some new activity when season 4 comes out, so I can hop on the bandwagon.

I don't mind if Shimako and Noriko don't get together, either (awesome as it would be if they did). But if Shimako ends up being a nun like she wants or if there's another girl who dilutes the tension or anything that tones down the ridiculously heavy subtext between them will make me an angry panda. >:O
