What if you don't know the twist, but guess it about a third of the way through because Shyamalan isn't really that subtle if you've ever read ghost stories before?

Is it a knife-gun?

My thoughts exactly. Every great once in a while there might be something I'll try and avoid spoilers for, but for the most part, yeah, I'm fine with them, too.

I also consider the fact that sometimes when I read spoilers, I'm getting somebody's personal interpretation/bias of the characters/events (not meaning that in a negative way, either, just noting that people will view characters and situations differently sometimes). Yeah, I might know the general summary of what happens, but I also may take away something entirely different from the story that the spoilers didn't mention or missed or whatever, too. So even there, I'm still getting something potentially new out of the story, you know?

I hope things improve for you soon. Hang in there.

I don’t know why people insist on seeing LJs heyday as some kind of permissive utopia where nothing was ever verboten. The difference between fandom then and fandom now is that on LJ it was possible to lock entire communities behind walls of disclaimers and invites, and on tumblr the only separation between people who hate a thing and people who love it is tagging something as “thing” or “anti-thing.” I bet discord servers and similar platforms will cut down on pro-vs-anti drama because they don’t have to share the same fandom space.

I read a lot of it, too. And write it. I love me some shipfic and smutty fic, yes, but I'll happily read stuff that isn't focused on that, too. I especially love character study fics, for instance.

I'm here for my ships: Sansa/Happiness, Brienne/Love&Respect, Jon/NotGettingStabbedAgain... all the classics

They vast majority of clothing is designed for the everyday person. Banana Republic does not put on a traditional runway show. J. Crew does not dress celebrities. I'm laughing at the idea of Adele being caught dead in Torrid.

Couture and high-end RTW is designed for models and celebrities - i.e., human beings with personal cooks and trainers and aestheticians and surgeons and stylists and a whole team of people working to make them into the perfect canvas, as is required by their job description. I don't see the problem. When you're talking about a $3,300 jacket or a $900 pair of jeans, it seems a little ridiculous to frame it in terms of size inclusivity. Exclusivity in general is the entire point, hence the price tag. And exclusivity is what allows high-end designers to create impractical and artistic pieces instead of the yoga pants and hoodies and cheap polyester separates that most people live in and, indeed, seem to prefer to the highly tailored, structured, unconventional, and quickly dated garments produced by high-end designers.

In 2020, Diggory's participation in the Triwizard Tournament and subsequent death was the subject of Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy's time-travel antics at the request of Amos. They sought to save Cedric and created an alternate timeline where Cedric survived and became part of the Death Eaters, because of the humiliation they caused him when they tried to save his life. Cedric's original and heroic life and death was later restored.

Good lord.

And the fact it robbed pretty much everything at the Tony's will never stop bothering me. Like at least try not to be so transparent about being bought off awards shows!

YES PLEASE!!

I love found-family and team fic, and I don't care if it's 'plausible' or not. Just add Bucky for sheer perfection (and Pietro, too).

I have a problem with the general idea of creating "impractical and artistic pieces" for people to wear, whoever those people are. Clothes are things to be worn. Bodies are not canvases. You want to make something that is just an art piece or first an art piece before anything else, make it. Just don't make it and then tell somebody to put it on their body to display it for you.

That is so baffling to me. Like....really? I just don't get it.

I feel like Tony is the most fundamentally human of the Avengers. Weird in a way, since he started out SO over the top, but his emotional responses to the other characters really stand out as genuine to me.

SA

And if you're going to ask who it hurts, the commodification of women's bodies is a problem, and fashion absolutely plays a huge role in that. Clothes should be clothes, and anything else plays into the idea that women's bodies are themselves art there to be consumed.

Why can't they have different functions for different people or situations? Art is just a means of expression and bodies can express plenty.

I just want to say....I love 'em all. Tony, Pepper, Nick, Natasha, Rhodey, Steve, Bucky, Sam, Bruce, Clint, Wanda, Pietro, Spiderman, even the Ant and Wasp people, though I don't know them as well.

LOVE THEM ALL!!

I think the movies have suffered from inconsistent to very poor writing, and that fandom has given us some of the *best* Tony, Pepper, Steve, etc. characterizations. Thank fuck for fanfic.

See the other comment I said about women's bodies being treated as being a thing for public consumption. Treating fashion as art only or art first rather than as clothes first and then art second contributes to the way women and their bodies are viewed by society.

To be fair... most of those are direct responses to his own tweets.

I had to google her (and no wonder, a current pop singer, I'm so clueless about that) - what horrifying 'thing' is she supposed to have done that has the masses frothing?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-27 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG I saw this post on tumblr that was actually a repost of a thread on twitter that was someone basically talking about how the Millennium Falcon and Rey's ability to fly it/fix it/etc was actually a metaphor for Ben Solo and how she was meant to fix him and they'd become married and idek. I was really confused.

He's your typical fake-woke twitter teenage boy, and I've lost count of how many inappropriate things he's tweeted, but tbh I feel uncomfortable with how many adults are ganging up on him. He's a kid, c'mon. Just block him.

I very much disagree, and suspect we have very different ideas of what makes a movie 'good'.

... why shouldn't creators want at least some compensation for the time and effort they put into things?
