103. why did you bother doing that spiral text thing it looks terrible

108. But It isn't a clown, It's a giant spider thing from outer space! Well, in the book at least. I've never seen the movie. (Personally I thought Pennywise paled in comparison to the FUCKING FLYING KILLER LEECHES in terms of scariness.)

137. Holy cocks, I've had this very vague memory of something from that show for years and years and never remembered the title.

158. Some of the tracks got so annoying after hearing them like... once.

159. Wait, there's people who hate Twilight but rec Cassandra Claire's book? WAT

(Anonymous) 2008-09-26 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. I couldn't believe it either.

Ok, I have to say this... Why the heck do people have to bring things like politics and religion into the fandom? Seriously? Unless you're debating theories in a specific series or something along those lines that deals with such subject matter why do people insist on talking about it otherwise? All it does is cause more wank and drama then what is necessary. Lord knows we have enough of that >>;;;;;

Vote for who you want and believe what you want, but seriously guys, just keep RL issues OUT of the fandom. I hear enough of it outside of the internets anyway -_-;;;

THANK YOU

I agree with this so much, it's not even funny.

I fucking love Zap Brannigan. XD

101. is there any particular reason i see the conservatives constantly name-calling the liberals? i dont know jack about politics but i'm noticing a trend here...

[identity profile] cypherwulf.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
People who consider themselves to be conservatives usually lack the education and ability to back up their weak arguments, so they act like bullies instead (Even their news stations like Fox News with Bill O'Reilly). I've only met one fiscal conservative who I enjoyed debating with because he really knew his stuff and didn't just make things up as he went along. Most conservatives really don't have a great reason why they call themselves conservative other than tradition, religious upbringing, or wanting to maintain their wealth. It's so easy to get them to see it too. Just use logic.

I'm sure there are some kind of open plot twist options that could make it happen. Not sure how exactly it would go over, but if the Daleks can KEEP COMING BACK ASDFSGSHFGH then I don't see why not. It'd sure be nice to have that planet back again. :\

101. Well. At least you're not voting for McCain. I'll refrain from commenting otherwise.

...What the hell, no I won't! Off the top of my head, I can't really think of any popular TV show, book series or movie right that could be called conservative. With the possible exception of Twilight. (Are Mormons allowed to be attracted to vampires? Just wondering.) Of course, if these things did exist, I'm sure I wouldn't be interested in them and therefore would know nothing of them. But yeah, of course fandom in general is full of liberals. Fandom reflects left-wing values.

So I'm always confused by conservatives in fandom. Like, 1) what would conservative people get out of fandom? and 2) if they grew up being future-fandom-y-like (immersed in fictional worlds, perhaps a bit socially isolated, etc.), how did they not end up liberal? It just sort of seems to me like the two things...are not like each other, as they used to say on Sesame Street.

112. I cried for her too. I mostly cried for House, but other than that, I cried for her. I only liked her for the entertainment value she provided until that finale. I cried SO hard for how much strength she had at the end, refusing to be angry over how it had ended.

113. :( I'm sorry. I sort of wish I could make everyone like Ten. Not because I don't think anyone should disagree with me (well, they shouldn't, because I'm right, but I digress); but because I want everyone watching to enjoy the show. I can't imagine I'd enjoy the show much if I didn't like who was playing the Doctor.

118. ...Odd. "They're like an old married couple," is often my justification for my favourite ships. Just because they bicker like it doesn't mean they fuck like it.

142.

I don't know about offscreen (nor do I care), but onscreen, well. They had more chemistry arguing in Runaway Bride than, say, Ten and Martha had in all of Season 3. (I like Martha, but wow. I almost had to look away from the kiss in "Smith and Jones," because it was so awkward.)

And more chemistry than either Jack or Rose, either. Although there isn't nearly so much dead-fish atmosphere with either of those.

It's odd, but David Tennant doesn't actually seem to develop a lot of chemistry with whoever he's co-starring with. (At least on Who.) The best chemistry I think I've seen has been between the Doctor and Reinette, Ross and Donna, i.e. bit or temporary characters (until Donna was brought back!).

Most people, thankfully, at least realize the Doctor and Donna had chemistry, even if they don't see it as sexual chemistry.

150. I think it would be cool, but I'd feel strange if the Doctor suddenly wasn't the Last Time Lord anymore. It would make the last few years seem sort of pointless.

154. Hillary Swank is gorgeous. *nods*

Well, Objectivism is basically the Ayn Rand fandom, and they're right-wing, although not orthodox Republicans.

124: I WOULD WATCH IT LIKE THE FIN OF AN ANGRY COD, or something. I'm halfway to writing fanmail to Robert Downey Jr, or Tobey Maguire or their agents or anyone I can think of begging them to make it.

Then again, I've started writing semi-drabbles in my spare time. It can't really be fic if I've only seen the trailer, can it? I mean, I don't even know their names =___=;; but Lazarus is a lovely name...

105. She didn't do anything for Simon to get over Kamina's death-- he never really did get over it-- she helped him move on in life.

144. Dr. Horrible and Adam teaming up would be crack.

157. My coworker and I always bring up Sora in our Atlantis discussions. She was such a great character. I was hoping she'd become recurring as the major Genii character, but she just vanished. :( Sad times.

159 I'm a YA librarian. Do you think I'd have taken this job if I didn't think there was merit to be had in YA lit? You shouldn't generalize just because you had a few bad experiences. I hated The Scarlet Letter, but I don't think all classic literature is a waste of time. Sure Twilight is a poor example of literature, but that doesn't necessarily mean that all YA lit is terrible.

Justine Larbalestier wrote a post (http://justinelarbalestier.com/blog/2008/05/16/bored-now/) addressing this very thing. Really, don't generalize. It makes you sound ignorant.

101., 108.

101. They're selling planes on eBay. Duh.

108. Pennywise makes me avoid sewer grates to this day. D:

[identity profile] mhari.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
101. LOL FOREVER. *gets filth on you*

159. Way to fucking generalize. YA isn't even a genre, it's a publishing category. Dipshit.

157: You had a nice argument going on there until you hit the bonus secret. If you haven't watched the show since Sora, you wouldn't know how the pregnancy story line panned out, how it actually worked on screen. As it is, you have no right to judge. Bonus not!secret: it's kind of sexist to hide an actress' pregnancy and I am ever so glad they have started working that into the story lines. (How about male actors who broke their hands? Would that be okay within the confines of the story?)

153: I think maybe you need to do a friends cut. True Blood fandom is going to be grand and you should not let yourself miss it because of the Twilight/Moonlight people. Become the maker of your own destiny already!

150: Me too, in all its campy glory.

149: I thought the story line was brilliant, but very hard to watch. You're right, BSG is hard on those of us with mental health issues. But! It is only that hard to watch sometimes because it draws characters so convincingly, they might as well be real.

145: I learned most of my English from X-Files smut when I was twelve/thirteen. You are not alone ;D

129: Well. I bet your friend would love to get into another show with you, maybe one that makes more sense? I think of myself as a LOST survivor, and I can totally understand your friend.

124: You and every slasher who's seen Tropic Thunder :D

109: You scare me. And Theodore needs to die. A lot.

108: Actually, I would suggest you read the novel - you know, confront your fears without actually having to see the visuals?

101. Oh, you are so, so mistaken. For one, there are a lot of very nice conservatives in fandom. Fiscal and social conservatives (though I don't tend to hang around the latter), and many of them are outspoken about their beliefs. It might seem, at times, that fandom has a higher percentage of conservatives, and there is some evidence that certain interests and habits grow counter to the conservative way of thinking, but the fandom!conservatives are there and many of them are very nice people.

You, however, are not a nice person, conservative or not. I believe you are an outcast because in your head you call us "filthy liberals" and that would color your every interaction with fandom. People can tell when someone hates them, even if that person is trying to be polite.

The fact that you're voting Obama in the election only proves that you're sane. Don't feel bad about that, it's a good thing. One of the few.

Alright then, in which case I agree to reserve judgement until I work my way up that far (Which I do plan to do. Eventually.) but I still stand by what said about CM; JJ's pregnancy still seems stupid and wildly out of character. Hopefully TPTB won't completely screw it up in season 4. That said, I don't have some grudge against the actresses who fall pregnant or anything, I wish AJ Cook the best. My bone to pick solely concerning the narrative.

113: Agreed.

124: Oh, why can't it be real!

125: I think you're overreacting.

129: All my RL friends stopped watching during Season 2 or before, which is extremely irritating as when it's on, this show is MY LIFE. Well, on the nights it airs anyway. :-P

[identity profile] smartamy15.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
137. Wow, weird, I was just thinking about The Puzzle Place the other day and I still remember the theme song almost word for word. Man, it's been years since I watched that show.
