AN ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL SECRET!

You have no idea how ridiculously excited I was to see this! With such a tiny fandom, I'd never have thought to see a secret! And such a cute one at that! James and Helen are so cute together, and to be honest, I never thought of shipping Helen/Tristan (mainly cos the pairings are so cute already as they are! And of course there is the factor that it's based on RL of course XD) but now I'll probably be thinking about it when I watch it again!

I neither like or dislike Nia, and I have no problem with people who have valid reasons for their likes and dislikes. But you're coming across as a rabid fan here. Her eyes and hair and "zomg Mary Sue even though the author created her" are not really well put reasons to feel so strongly against a character. If you can't come up with something more articulate, such as "I really can't relate to characters who are naive" or "I prefer female characters who go into battle." I would just keep this yourself. Because most fandoms WILL react badly to rabids.

I don't understand fans who claim certain characters as being Mary Sues, but then bash them for their obvious flaws. If a character is imperfect enough to have such drawbacks, wouldn't that make them rather un-Sueish? It just seems to me that some people like to take their subjective dislikes, and try to portray them as objective ones that others must agree with or they're wrong.

"This character rubs me the wrong way" becomes "this character is poorly written".

149. I hated Cally towards the end as well, but her final episode was one of the most emotionally affecting ones of the entire show. I just felt so much for her; I was scared for her and by her… and the way she ended stays in my gut. I’m now watching the series over again with my family, and seeing her as that green wrench monkey who bit a rapist’s ear off makes what she’ll become feel particularly tragic.

Also, the actress was spot-on great.

Um, no. Dude. I'm 28 and a literature PhD. I have read more widely than everyone I've met outside academia. I agree that Twilight sucks. I have no desire to read the other two series up there so can't say if they're any good because I won't pass judgment on anything I haven't read. (The fact that I don't want to read them does mean I think they look bad.)

BUT. There is also a lot of YA out there that's good. There's a lot of interesting things going on in YA. Wicked Lovely was a terribly good book, and I'd like to force everyone who read Twilight to read Wicked Lovely as an example of doing it *right*. Scott Westerfield, Tamora Pierce, and Dianna Wynne Jones are all *brilliant* contemporary YA authors.

Out of curiosity, what literature do you think is good?
