101. Wow. I'm a social democrat myself. I'm probably much further left than pretty much any 'liberal' American politician so I must be pretty damn filthy, huh? And since when is 'liberal' a dirty word anyway? We have a party here called the 'Liberal' party and I never associated the term with anything negative. It's very successful historically btw.

I think Americans could do with learning a bit about the virtues of socialism. It's not all bad, guys. Sometimes its good to let the government take care of its citizens, cause lord knows corporations won't.

101: Fandom? Oh, fandom's nothing. Try being a conservative and living in San Francisco. Love the city, but I can't say I agree with lots of the things it does.

Hm. If you consider yourself a Republican, then I'm going to assume it's because you agree with what Republicans tend to stand for and the stances they tend to make on important issues (otherwise you wouldn't be accurately portraying yourself as a "Republican"). If so, it's kind of weird that you'd vote for Obama, considering he's one of the most liberal Politicians in America, and doesn't exactly defend the same views that Republicans associate themselves with. I'm probably missing something here, but that people would vote outside of their political parties baffles me. If you're going to vote on the other side, why are you associating yourself with the opposite political party? :/

I'm too young to vote, but I'd probably vote for McCain. Even with every single person surrounding me advocating Obama. I don't HATE the man, I just don't agree with his politics and I don't trust my country in his hands.

(And fyi, I'm an immigrant, dark-skinned minority. Everyone has a reason to hate me now! Wee!)

Yes, exactly! I think Obama is a great speaker and he seems nice enough, but I don't agree with his politics either.

Here's an idea. Why don't the load mouths on both ends of the political spectrum keep their opinions OUT OF MY FANDOM. I come on here to get away from this garbage and debate stupid issues like who should hook up with who or I hate that character and no one else agrees with me. The fandom isn't the place for people to dump their political or religious beliefs. Even in RL, I think that such matters are best kept private. You can avoid a lot of messy arguments that way.

Personally, I find it hard to share my political views with others because I'm liberal minded with the world around me, but I have strong personal morals that I apply for myself. I'm liberal on national/worldly issues such as gay rights and foreign relations. I'm conservative about how to discipline children and respecting authority. All of the people in my neighborhood are the opposite. But I don't go and rail them on their decisions. (Many of them wouldn't show me the same respect.)

Point is, just leave all liberal vs. conservative stuff for a debate team, ethics class, family dinner, ect. Don't drag it into a place that has it's own wank to sort through.

That's one reason I want to work as an editor or publisher with YA literature. It currently sucks and I want to make it better. Have hope!!

Fellow Conservative here! Though, I will most definitely NOT be voting for Obama and Biden.

Personally, though, I just don't mix politics and fandom. No need to have unnecessary debates. Fandom's just not the place, in my opinion.

What gets me about this secret is the sense of entitlement. You are not entitled to friendly space.

Take some personal responsibility. If there's no perceived friendly space for you in fandom, it's your personal responsibility to make one. And how do you do that? By playing nice with other fans, by proving that you can be a socially responsible person in fanspace and not a complete jackoff. For example, many people in fandom either are queer when we enter or discover our queerness after having been a fan for a while, and to be totally blunt, conservatives have EARNED deep and harsh skepticism from the queer community. To be a conservative and to be accepted by the fandom LGBTIQ contingent, you are going to have to demonstrate that you're not a homophobic/transphobic asshole, and that can only be done through time and action. This can be easier some times than others - if your take on friendliness in fanspace is that everybody has to agree with you, you're in for a cold and lonely time.

What's this? A Republican taking personal responsibility for something? As much as conservatives love to throw that term around, they sure hate applying it to themselves.

127. Damn, I know I'm late to the party, but I just want to say I LOVE YOU, SECRET POSTER! All Creatures Great And Small FTW. I love that show so much.

Trust me, you're not the only one. I hate them for destroying it (and I am sure it wasn't the Doctor. The Time Lords were winning the war but then came the evil BBC-fleet and destroyed everything).

This make me angry because if he's writing the new Hitchhiker's book, it means he's not writing the next Artemis Fowl book!

I have to ask. In what fandom spaces is politics even being put into the equation, the only time I see political stuff is in personal journals, and just because a person participates in fandom communities does not mean that their personal journal is reserved for fannish stuff only. So yes there are more liberals in fandom, but that is probably similar to how the majority of fandom is LGBTQ-friendly or LGBTQ. It is hard to support a party that aligns itself and supports not respecting that community as real people.

i think the best proof that this secret is true is that almost everyone who "outed" themselves as a conservative did so anon. i am a conservative. i am registered member of the GOP. i'm voting for McCain. i think Obama will lose but if he wins he will be a terrible president. and i have no idea why anyone would feel like they would have to hide that about themselves.

101. Fellow conservative right here. :3 Although I don't turn 18 until December, so no voting for me. :( But honestly, I don't think politics and fandom should mix, unless politics IS your fandom. Unless you mean you can see people's political views through their fanfiction or something and it upsets you? If you mean it in that respect, I understand. But there's not much that can be done about that. :/

Also, I do hope when you say "filthy liberals" you're referring to specific people. Not all of them are filth. ;) *has liberal friends*
