Me too.

I actually wish I was as close with my family as they are as well.

Between them and the Weasleys, I really really wish I wasn't an only child.

134. I agree. I was in the (not LJ) fandom after New Moon came out until a bit before Eclipse was released. Maybe I still would have liked it/stayed in the fandom if it were smaller. Maybe it would be less batshit crazy :/

Dear 137,

I bet my cousin would catch you if you quoted her in conversation. She's loved Michiru since we were little kids (we're both in college now) and through that I came to love her too. <3 I have never in my life found her boring. She and Haruka (as well as Ami) evoked more emotion from me than anyone else in that series.

<3,
Sono

I don't think I could ever get into this, though I see why people would. It's not so much that I'm more of a sap, it's just that anything involving Russia has the potential to be downright unhealthy. Take it as a double entendre if you want, but I guess different strokes for different blokes.

I'd get into the fandom handling Russia in an extremely tasteless fashion at times(including the Japanese no doubt), but I haven't seen a trace of wank.

Oh yeah, and 116

Oh, honey, one day you're gonna wake up and you'll be 30 too, just like everyone else does eventually, and you'll realize that it's not OMGYUCKYOLD and that you don't magically lose interest in every one of your hobbies at a certain age. Until then, stop making yourself look silly.

*Nods* I always wonder when "too old" is "too old" for some people. Because that's extremely subjective and would change based on each individual. It could well be that the OP's age is already "too old" according to someone else's standards!

Anyway...I also wonder how that would work in practical terms: do you wake up one morning and decide that "that's it, I've reached the target age. From now on, I'm going to stop watching anime or read manga or listen to what I'm usually listening to, or at the very least I'm gonna stop checking out comms and not participate in fandom anymore, because the opinion of an older fan is creepy".

There may not be many olders fans online right now (though I suspect many more are lurking), and yes, when you have to worry about houses, work, husband/wife/partner, or kids (if any) etc. you probably have less time, but mainly, the "older fans" of ten twenty years ago? Simply not used to the same tools we use now.
Ten, twenty years ago, Internet access was much more limited then, and if you had it, it was likely dial-up. Not great to get fansubs, or access comms like F!S with plenty of pictures. And comms as we know them were not as established then, lj didn't exist etc. So older fans simply didn't have the reflex of checking fandom online.
But we do now. And in ten, twenty years? We still will, I bet. Interests just don't suddenly vanish.

The reason I'm saying this, is because I wonder how much this attitude is based on the current fandom situation and average age right now. But if "older fans" become more common place in the future, would the overall attitude in fandom change?

166. I like some of Leslie Neilson's stuff (Airplane & Dracula Dead and Loving It), but Mr. Bean and Jim Carrey do not appeal to me at all :(

137. Michiru is fantastic! Elegant girly-girl who can still kick ass AND play the violin AND is an artist...somehow, without being a Mary Sue? A+ number one in my book. <3

148. H-how could anyone not love Daisuke? *tear*

155. MANOS. God, I love that movie. If only for the amusement factor. /TOTALLY UNRELATED TO NATURE OF THE SECRET.

166. I don't know who that last guy is, but Rowan Atkinson and Leslie Nielson? I think that's comedic gold. To each their own, I guess. But I like that old stuff better than the new comedy we see nowadays.

Actually, if I could go back in time, I'd have dropped out at 15, gotten my GED by 16, went to community college for 2 years to become a paralegal, and I would have been done by the time I was 18. Then I would have had a real job that would have left me plenty of time/money for fandom.

Also, even if you wait to get your education till you're 20, you can go get a GED, and then do the community college route, since most community colleges have sister relationships with universities allowing for easy transfer.

You've outsmarted us all, I say.

105. SECONDED SO HARD. Paranoia's definitely not fun.

Also, whoever you are, I bet you're pretty awesome. Almost everyone I play with there is. :D

137. I never appreciated the Outer Senshi much until I started watching Sera Myu, but agreed! She's beautiful, graceful, and serene like the sea, but also sly in bed. Haruka/Michiru forever <3

165. ...That ship totally makes sense, now that I think about it. *chalks it up next to Spongebob/Squidward as bizarre yet awesome*

110: I think it's because he's so frequently a jerk that people call him an ass and a wanker, and I don't like him either. I love the fact that Diane dumped him for her aeroplane, and not even the attempt to make him sympathetic through a sad backstory or his death will get me to like him.

123: Stuff your diehard purist friends! Lost in Austen is <3, and so is Wickham the slightly shameless but helpful bastard.

128: So do I, provided that Ando can join in too :D

166: If you think Rowan Atkinson isn't funny, you clearly have never seen the Blackadder series.

(Anonymous) 2008-10-05 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry mate, but you really need to grow up. How can you live happily as an adult when you're messing up your life as it is? You can't build castles on foundations made of sand. You need to work, hard, so you can hit the ground running. Otherwise you're going to crawl into your twenties with no qualifications and no hope. And then what? You won't get a decent job (since you've shown you can't put effort in), you won't get a career, and you'll be stuck doing dead-end jobs, when everyone else is off to university/college/apprenticeships. And when everyone you knew is living their adult lives, you'll still be stuck on the bottom rung, thinking you can start your education *any day now*...right when you've paid the mortgage, paid the bills, done the shopping...

Finishing high school isn't about the grades. It's about showing that you're able to knuckle down and do hard work. Right now, instead you're just showing that you're unreliable and lazy. Sorry, you have to actually do work as an adult. It sucks, but there are many benefits to it too. Don't destroy your life just because you can't face the fact you're growing up. You'll regret it forever.
