122- If Katy Perry Kissed A Girl and liked it for real rather than as a faux bisexual attention seeking bit, then fandom would probably be all over it too.

127 - Utena's been one of the few anime to affect me that way too. Even if I took the 'There's No Such Thing As A Prince!' route rather than finding a prince from the series.

132 - XD! XD!

166 - What, even Black Adder? I loathe Mr. Bean and the physical comedy, but how can you go past Black Adder?

122. If nothing else, her song at least gets "gay issues" out there. Raising awareness and all that, even just by controversy. Though personally, I hate that song. And let me tell you, seeing a bunch of 11 year old girls singing that at the top of their lungs is really disturbing.
You kissed a girl? Great! You liked it? Good for you. What ticks me off is the "cheating on your S.O. doesn't count if it's with girls! :D yaycandytwinkletoesyay!" message.

Oh, man, I remember the songs my peers sang in middle school. I'm pretty sure "Stacy's Mom" has yet to be topped in the creepy-when-sung-by-preteens category.

What ticks me off is the "cheating on your S.O. doesn't count if it's with girls! :D yaycandytwinkletoesyay!" message.

I kinda thought the line about "this isn't how nice girls behave" was an acknowledgment that it does count as cheating, and cheating is bad...

I write fanfic. I'm 35. Deal with it.

Oh! Well, not the OP, but I bet I can help out. ;D On an RP journal, no less, but why should I both logging off? Being only 21, I think I'm still allowed to be affiliated with gaming--BUT DON'T TELL THE OP JUST IN CASE.

Clearly if fanfic is out of the question, you'd better give up fanart and role-playing as well if you dabble in either of those. Maybe in order to remove the temptation in your life, you should forgo all kinds of entertainment that doesn't have to do with cooking or cleaning. (The internet, too; that's just too newfangled for all the old-fogies in the world.) You can't very well start to write fic about the dishwasher cheating on Dawn with the off-brand of dishwashing soap--or could you? Uh oh.

Martial arts is definitely a no-no. At thirty, you're clearly over the hill, so I'm betting water aerobics and yoga is about all you should be straining yourself with, my dear. Better replace that video gaming club with a bridge/pinochle group too. Or you could maybe try having an Oprah Book of the Month Club Chapter, but there again you run the risk of bringing back those immature desires. :{ Best to just avoid all that. And since clearly any woman thirty plus must be a troll/hag in order to be on the internet with all the youngins, liposuction, plastic surgery, and a fortune spent on cosmetics is going to be a necessity. In fact!! Maybe ladies who are twenty-five and older and still not out of fandom ought to start saving up money and days off for those expensive surgeries, because hag-dom surely is not a transformation that occurs overnight.

I guess the only solution for any woman 30+ who wants to selfishly devote time to fandom or fic should just pop out a bunch of kids and devote the rest of their lives to slavishly looking after them and their interests!

109: I used to love this show! I was so happy to see fic for it, because it means I'm not alone. But I really can't read it because if I feed the fire too much I'll fall back in, and the fandom's really small. Wow, that's really lame of me.

116: I hope I'm still in fandom when I'm 30. I'm almost 20 now, and I don't think I've ever been committed to anything for over 15 years. Also: Bitchin' pic.

117: I'd read it. I really like Roy/Dick slash, and this would hit all those buttons (ex-side kicks, getting abandoned, finding a new identity, growing up too fast) without all the confusing canon (solution = no canon!) Also: James needs moar slash!

N!S3: Dr. Manhattan is such a dick. I hate him so much. I just - ARG - I can't come up with something intelligent to say. Grr.

122. I can and do. Not even because I'm not that big a fan of yaoi, either. But because I don't think there's a single ounce of genuine sentiment to it. To me, it's not about someone discovering their latent sexuality, but trying to coyly play that off while actually advertising for the opposite gender. "I hope my boyfriend don't mind it?" Yeah. Sure, I totally believe that you/the 'narrator' of the song, is sincere. While you're at it.... please, sell me some ocean-front property in Arizona.

141. I haven't seen it--is it really that bad? I've gotten into fandom recently, and was thinking about checking it out, but to be honest I'd kind of been putting it off since my preference is het (with a few exceptions) and so much of fandom seems to be geared towards slash that I just wasn't sure if it would be worth my time. Good to know nothing of value's been lost for me, I guess.

99% of what's on kinkmeme is crap, and 99% of that crap is slash, and 99% of that slash is P/E.

You will be missing absolutely nothing.

114) I thought it was an okay movie. Silly, but harmless and quite fun.

It has the most misleading DVD box though; a friend of mine lent it to me (he only bought it because Tim Roth is in it and he knows Tim is one of my favourite actors - odd reason to buy something for himself though...) and I assumed it was going to be a takes-itself-too-seriously Tristan and Isolde sort of thing. I was quite pleasantly surprised when I actually watched it (even though given the choice between Tim and Hayden I know who I'd be going for...)

116.

I don't think that there is an age limit for fandom. I'm always going to be fannish no matter what age I am -- that is my personality.

I do think you have a point though, it's just misplaced. The problem here has nothing to do with age but with

It is depressing, whether it's from a 15 year old or a person in their 40s. Whether it's from a person who is single or married. Listen. Fandom is fun. Fandom is entertainment. Sometimes it can make you reflect deeply on real life, or you can find great friends through it. But most of the time, it is extremely shallow, and profitless. It's never, ever going to completely replace what you NEED, what every human being NEEDS, from reality -- self-esteem, happiness, true companionship, success and well-being. You can look for it all you want in fandom, but you will wind up empty-handed.

Re: 116

You can get quite a lot of those things via fandom if you're doing it right.

106. Oh dear, it's the Fun Police. Look, it's just a fun quote. Not particularly witty, but a little...unexpected, and it was a fun moment. No one's trying to be clever, they just like the stupid quote. Get over yourself. If you're going to whine about one quote in the show about a man travelling in a magic wooden box through space and time...well...yeah...

110. I'm sure by now people will've pointed out that his introduction was basically as a date rapist. But at the same time, yeah, I was surprised to see all the insane hate towards him--I thought he was the most interesting character on the whole show, especially in the second season (not counting Rhys).

116. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...What?!? I'm...I'm seriously not following your leap of logic, especially that last bit. "The only thing that makes you ugly..."? Who said ugly? Who said anything about that? Where did that come into play in this little high-horsed rant of yours? It does occur to you that many women involved in fandom are, in fact, married or otherwise in a happy relationship.
No. No, it ptobably doesn't. I'm not defending bandom or rps (two things I just don't get), but if anyone needs to grow up here... really now.

But that is a fantastic picture, and I'd love to know who drew it.

133. I never noticed those. I was too busy being angry that Wash wore some spacey jumpsuit instead of a wacky hawaiian shirt. It's his swansong--he should have a tacky shirt, dangit!

135. Man, now I want a Glamdring replica (or Orcrist, if/when that comes out) just so I can be buried with it.

137. Perfect is boring. I mean, I'm not saying anything about Neptune, because I never knew much about her, but if other people find her boring, and you think she's perfect...well...

166. I hate Mr. Bean with a passion, but BlackAdder is sheer hilarity. I also love Jim Carrey...what can I say, he's a mostly guilty pleasure when I feel the need for some serious cheese.
And man, I just can't hate Leslie Neelson. I grew up on him.
