102. I kind of was there, I despaired ever finding a guy who shared my fandom interests and wasn't a Sensitive Guy. I was telling myself I'd hook up with any guy who'd want me, even if they were dumb as a bag of bricks and uninterested in anything except football, as long as I could avoid the drama.

I'm not gonna judge you for being desperate for companionship, I'll just note that lies in a relationship tend to come out sooner or later and make things a mess. And there have to be guys out there that share your interests, so you should take a chance and go find them. Good luck.

I'd think this was just a normal, non-inflamatory secret until the last bit. Really? Really? I'm sorry, I really think anyone over the age of fourteen should be over "Orlie the hawt elf!" with no personality. Really. If you want realstic characters... and..."good to relate to..." Well, that last phrase gives a cue as to why you find the books boring, maybe.
Yeah, maybe because they're modern, the Potter-crew is easier to relate to on that level. But if you actually mean relating to the character of someone... I'd think the Hobbits would be much easier. There's never been a fictional character I related to more than Peregrin Took. And Sam's my role model, and a hella better sidekick than Ron or Hermione.
Ah, but it had to be for the wank.

But don't you even want to try writing characters that aren't you? You needn't show them to anyone. I used to believe that I could only write versions of myself, and I promise it's not harder than writing yourself (easier in some ways), nor is it less fun. You might have to experiment with a few characters to find one you "click," with, and it might not be the one you expect. And then work from there.

But seriously, try it. It would be a shame to spend so many years writing and not keep learning from it.
