I get why people delete and purge their LJs, I really do, but it sucks when you're looking for old kink meme fills and all the stories you want to read have been deleted.

Especially if the comments for the deleted fics are ranting and raving about how hot/good/awesome it was.

Well, you don't have kids so that is probably why you can't imagine it. It is a hard thing to imagine. And yeah, some parents feel that way but fic is about wish fulfillment. So, that kind of scene is a harder sell.

But they also might not feel that way or be able to imagine it if they did have kids. It's not a universal reality that people that way, and it gets presented as a universal truth in fiction, and it's annoying and slightly sickly-sweet-nauseating.

jk I mean everyone in OP is shades of gray and that's blissfully true of the Marines as much as every crew except maybe Blackbeard and Kaidou (but we're coming up on the point where if Kaidou has gray factors they're about to be revealed). I love Smoker and Koby but Sakazuki can eat a dick.

I#m kinda pissed at the guy at my uni who won't reply to my mail. I'll have to write to him again tomorrow (or maybe I'll just try to call his office on monday)to ask if he even received it since he allegedly didn't get the first mail I sent him a few weeks ago either (which I doubt and am pretty sure he just overlooked it back then). But I'm always so anxious that he did get it and just didn't work on it yet and will get pissed that I'm annoying him and work extra slow. But it's been almost two weeks and it's not a big thing so I think it's well within my rights to remind him.
I'm sure he'll say he didn't get that mail either but fuck that.

OP - Exactly, anon. Thank you. :)

I acknowledge that it's possible I'd feel this way if I had a kid, but I'd bet very strongly against it. It would just be so wildly, unfathomably out of character for me. I fully anticipate I'd be one of those people who's like, "I love my child now, but I felt nothing when they were born and I secretly regretted having them for almost a year." And that's if I actively chose to have a baby.

I know someone who suffered post-natal depression and she says some part of that was the whole "instant love and beauty is always present" narrative. She didn't feel that at all. In fact she says she felt nothing but fear (which is normal in itself when you're caring for a new human) but she was made to feel alienated and broken by the idea that you *instantly* feel like all you want to do is stare at the baby in awe.

On a related note, my BFF has the uuuuuugliest babies. So far they've all improved with age, and the one who was a premie has that excuse for always looking like he's staring into a cthonic abyss for the first few months, but good god. She can never know.

Those sentiments are more common than a lot of people think, but as someone who definitely doesn’t want kids I would rather read/write about people being unswervingly devoted to having them than tread through the nauseating premise of a person for whom it seems out of character having a child and having to get used to the idea. Cause that’s a a potentially traumatic experience.

I'd like to see the opposite too where the characters don't instantly bond with their babies and/or are fearful of suddenly being charged with the care of a new human being. Heck, you can have both where a new parent thinks their baby is the most beautiful baby ever, but is also scared of how fragile the baby is and scared of screwing up. I get why it's not common in fic though since it's wish fulfillment and all that.
