102. I have read hundreds upon hundreds of stories written in fandom. Whether you are a virgin or not doesn't matter- either can pull off amazing, intimate stuff.

124. I agree so much. I mean why would even read a book if you hate the main character?
Also I think he was pretty smart and selfless(when it came to bigger stuff like saving someone by jeopardizing your own life). So what if he whined a bit about not being informed of what was going on in OotP? Big deal.

Re: 124

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I don't get people who don't get not liking a main character. Harry isn't the be-all-end-all of the series. He's the protagonist, sure, but the series is also about a magical world we learn about, filled with lots of other characters, many of which I love so much. I'm guessing people think we went "Hm, I hate this guy. Better read seven books about him then!" when in reality, it usually goes, "Hm, I'll read this book. OMIGOSH, I love *insert character/place/plot-point/quidditch* so much!" and then over time, one book or seven, realised that Harry did a lot of stuff that bugged us.

Harry is selfless (I'll hold off on the "smart." He's...reasonably smart, but pretty darn arrogant-dumb sometimes, like still saying "Voldemort" when he knew what it could do and all. Or getting mad/fresh in the wrong situations. But there's different kids of smart). He has many virtues. Most people do have virtues. He has many flaws. These flaws just happen to be the ones that push my buttons most. Harry is a hero. But on the side of being a hero, he does a lot of things that really get annoying.

Saying that you can't hate Harry because he's selfless or heroic or anything like that seems like saying you can't dislike Batman or Green Lantern or Superman or the Flash. They're all (mostly) selfless heroes, but not everyone like every person in the Justice League. Doesn't mean they don't still pick up the book.

108. Okay, the text at the bottom was funny. It may be horrible of me, but I laughed.

11. You mean that people have time to even consider that fight in the middle of all the unexpected awesome of Oomaeda? News to me. Personally, I ship Fleeting Chance of Having A Truly Cool Moment/Oomaeda now. FCHTCM is a total tease and keeps abandoning him, but their love is just so hilariously beautiful I cannot avoid it.

116. Somehow, this makes me feel like I have to watch Dr Horrible. Because I sure as heck want to know how he would ever fit in that pairing now.

127. And I shall repeat what I said last time: these two having sex would be THE most hilarious slashfic ever written. If it's not written like a comedy, you'd be doing it wrong.

134. Denial does not suit her and it does not suit the fans.

138. ... I am in love with the maker of this secret for writing an actual RHYMING secret. Which considering I am male and the OP enjoys shoujo ai is most likely just a set-up for disappointment for me but what the heck, no one ever died from a tragic and impossible love... ehem. In any case: rhyming secret is awesome.

139. As is the picture in this one.

144. Join the "Little Mermaid Traumatized me club". When Ursula just... WALLOWED out of her hiding hole in her intro scene, something snapped in my poor young mind. I fear and may or may not have a thoroughly awkward and most likely twisted attraction to plus-size women now. Damn you Disney. When will your evil plans be discovered?

(Anonymous) 2008-11-01 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Directions, plz? I want the fic!

[identity profile] agentphillips87.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
124) Are you objecting to the Harry hate on account of his importance in the books or because you just object to people focusing on bashing characters generally? If it's the latter then fine, if it's the former then frankly I don't see why Harry should get special treatment just because he's the POV character - he's still just one character in a larger whole and we can hate him if we want to. Doesn't mean we don't like the other elements of the books or that we need to get out of the fandom any more than people who hate say, Ginny do. *Is part of two other fandoms where she doesn't like the POV character but enjoys the series anyway*

135) Well if you're the sort of person who thinks one shouldn't like both "real" musicals and "jukebox" musicals then frankly I don't respect you. *Loves musicals, and Moulin Rouge...and Mamma Mia as I'm willing to bet you probably disapprove of that as well*

(Anonymous) 2008-11-01 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
101. Same here. Always. It hurts, doesn't it?

[identity profile] mob-boss-tess.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
104. Aw. I love K.O.

[identity profile] easilyentranced.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
124. I agree to a certain extent. I mean, I can see why people wouldn't like him and would criticize him, but some times I think that it gets a little out of hand and people just start looking for retarded things to fault him on. I swear someone called him egocentric because he didn't know the name of an older student in the Slytherin house. (I'm pretty sure it turned out to be Theodore Nott.) I didn't really understand that... but I think it's fine for people to not really like the POV character as long as they like something else in the book.

148. Lol! I've never watched it, and I always pronounce it wrong in my head, but never out loud, for some reason. (I totally say "Geese".)

113, 119, 151

[identity profile] justaminuet.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
113. I tried to come up with a decent response to this that didn't come off as too analytical. Honestly, I think as long as you know what your own problems are, have accepted them, and know how to handle them in a healthy manner, then you have nothing to be ashamed or afraid of.

119. I wish to find your fic. Right. Now.

151. Wow, must be hard hating yourself every day. Exhausting, and all that. I'm so sorry other people besides you were born with boobs and a vagina, and now you have "competition." As someone who's never been able to comprehend hating on her own gender, I can only roll my eyes at how completely asinine people like you are.

113's OP

(Anonymous) 2008-11-02 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, thanks! Well-wishers with cute icons always make me smile.

And yeah, like I said in my secret, normally, I don't really think about it, or it's just part of the past, or something that needed to get integrated in to my personality and certainly has by now. It just gets disconcerting now and then. But it's well-handled and safe to assume that I'm now a functioning whatever-I-am.

(And hey, having fictional characters I can relate to helps. Watching how their plots work out can help a person understand themselves better, ya know?)

[identity profile] post-position.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)

102. It's not too hard to write realtistic porn scenes with little knowledge of the actualities. Afterall, if you wrote sex straight as it occurs, it usually wouldn't be half as hot. ;)

Forget "recommended age". Any Mog book is a masterpiece of literature.

fdsagffgd I was so mad when my mom got rid of my copy of Mog in the Dark! I must replace it. :3

135 - I like musicals, and I like Moulin Rouge, but I don't like Moulin Rouge because I think it's a musical. Just wondering if I should continue not giving a shit about your respect. :x

108. Dammit, you've ruined the ending for me!

146. OMG I <3 YOU. I loved that book as a kid! I loved Mog!

My lit class is hilarious. Everyone else was like, going on about all these classics they loved, and I was like: "Um, I like fantasy..." XD

Also,
148: Never having watched this series but seeing it quite often here, I'd always pronounced it in my head as gay-ass. >>

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
135. Because it's impossible for people to like more than one genre. Casablanca isn't a comedy, so I automatically lose respect for people who consider themselves fans of comedies and like that movie.

Seriously, get over yourself.
