I know what you mean, a lot of fictional creatures have been in stories for HUNDREDS of years, and there've been so many interpretations of them, so it's completely up to the artist how to portray them.

I think the problem is that people don't realize that Stephenie's idea of vampires aren't the traditional kind... most people don't realize that Edward Cullen is completely different than any kind of vampire mythology...ever. When I suggested a movie to her once (after she said that she was really into Vampires) she said she'd only watch it if they were like the Twilight vampires and was disappointed when I told her that sparkly vampires only exist in the Twilight 'verse. She had no idea.

People actually start to think it's going to happen.
