I feel you. Like... I don't necessarily find it offensive, depending on who puts it together-- certainly there are other gay (and European) fans who poke gentle fun at themselves along with a character when they joke about certain stereotypes. But the videos just... there's rarely enough to stretch the joke out long enough for the song without just getting TIRED. When the video maker tries to fit the cast of characters to all the different singing roles, it often feels forced, but when it's an animatic rather than clips, then not having characters in the different roles feels pointless...

I, too, get a high from giving people money. Well, the high comes from them expressing appreciation for it.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

Thanks anon! Good to know and better than I thought.

I mean, no sorry. bashing one part of a ship for another was accepted regardless of gay or het, but writing m/m bashing some woman was INSANE and like...it practically became a trope. So...

Oh. You should watch some Bruce Lee moves. They're cool.

Re: What is everyone doing on the last day of the decade?

Cut my finger cooking (it was actually bleeding heavily enough to drip onto the floor, I never have such severe cuts) and it took quite awhile to stop bleeding but even though it finally stopped and is bandaged up and the intense pain is now much more mild now, I'm still kind of freaked out. How the hell am I going to do everything one handed? Also, I have a trip in two weeks and I'm really hoping it's healed enough by then that it won't inconvenience me.

This on top of some other stuff that's going on in my life right now is really not a good omen for the new year and decade. :(

Games: The standout for me was Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. I usually hate twitch and don't go for games that are on rails, but it's nice to see a more nuanced take on mental illness.

Movies: This has been a pretty slow year for movies for me. I did Frozen II, Shazam, and Rise of Skywalker, but was pretty underwhelmed.

TV: Russian Doll, Expanse, and Pose Series 2 comes to mind as the best of a very good year.

Really? I loved it.

I watched so many shows I can't remember them all, but I'll say All Rise was my favorite new show this year.

I'm not a big movie person and only watched a handful and none of them are standing out as particularly memorable.

I unfortunately read a ton of pretty mediocre, underwhelming books but I loved Fahrenheit 451, that was definitely my favorite of the year.

I don't play games, or read much fanfiction anymore (and what I did, nothing stands out as all that great).

Podcasts...I did discover a new one that I'm still listening to (True Crimecast) but even though it's ok, I wouldn't say it's amazing or anything. (I'm still on the hunt for a true crime podcast with male hosts that isn't conservative-leaning, prone to giving way too much weight to baseless conspiracy theories, and super weird about gay people, but I'm starting to think that it doesn't exist.)

Writing and drinking tea. Debating whether to open a bottle of wine since I was sick all December and now my sleep schedule is fucked up because of it.

Perhaps you're using up all your bad luck so it doesn't carry over into 2020?

It was so much of a ripoff of (or 'tribute to') We Have Always Lived in the Castle that it was distracting, IMO. I mean, there were some more modern twists, but it was close enough that it bugged me.

ayrt

That is a great way to look at it, thank you!

Re: New Year's Resolutions

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really have any specific ones, in the "unrealistic things I will never do" way, mine's just to learn and grow and be the best person I can be.

Re: Get All The Rot Out Before The New Decade!

Chidi (The Good Place) is actually gay, which explains a number of his successes/failures.

Hmm. That...doesn't make any sense at all, to me personally. There are plenty of canonically not-shown-to-be-gay characters that I think a really good case could be made for them being gay, but Chidi isn't one, at least in my opinion. His successes/failures are based on insecurity/low self-esteem, which I don't think has anything to do with being gay; plenty of straight people have those issues. Not that I have anything against him (or anyone) being gay, I just don't think he is.

What makes you think he is?

Re: Get All The Rot Out Before The New Decade!

The headcanon was thought out earlier on in the series. There's really no actual proof or reference to it being in any way realistic, but it stems from a number of his failed relationships, and the fact that in the 'good' place he was never matched him with another guy. Any relationship that hasn't been a complete failure to him was with a male counterpart. His best friend, the dude with the boots, etc.
Part of it comes from his never finding the 'right' answer to anything in the world, because his perceived perception has always been semi-influenced by what he thinks the world should be. The way some people get a gay awakening, I guess. Something like that anyways.
His relationship with Eleanor has always been rocky, and majorly built up on shared experience. Like all the relationships we see before her, it's based on philosophy and an ability to associate despite (in her case) not actually getting along. I got the idea before the later seasons, so their relationship wasn't so infallible as it apparently is now.

My iPod's completely dead from what I can tell, so I can't actually check the note. But it was some really tin-hatted shit, I have to say.

Idk... there's something I've been putting off that I need to take care of and I hate it. I just wish a miracle would happen to make it easier, because I'm tired of it being back there in the back of my mind. (I'm being vague on purpose.)

I didn't really have any resolutions for last year.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
I do. Do you understand mockery?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
For the record, ayrt wasn't the person who previously replied.

Also, I don't think anyone has to prove anything to me. But I'll damn sure mock anyone who acts like they have a solid understanding of something they only watched a few episodes of. Deal with it.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
How many episodes must they watch before they're officially allowed to dislike it, your majesty?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
You know it as a trope because you know how much everyone else hated it. My point stands.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
True, but your original claim is that he hated her. He did not.

I do not deny she reacted in annoying ways, such as daring her to come get her. But I think Relena haters may have possibly transferred their feelings of hatred for her onto a guy who grew to respect her and eventually went on to rescue her (more than once, actually). Oh, and marry her.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Who said anything about disliking a show?

Are you confused? You appear to be having a completely different conversation here.
