Because OP did not see fit to furnish us with examples, lets make our own.

Characters (either gender) who you hate / dislike / like less because of the shaming tactics and evangelising of their fans.

For me the big one is Captain Marvel. The movie was mediocre. CM was bland and dull and based of her writing, I couldn't even be bothered to hate her... But you factor in the fans and away we go!

Same basic idea with Wonder Woman, but I loved Wonder Woman. I thought she was well written, well acted (as well acted as she could be by a woman without muscles) and the film had me... then the fans come along and... I still like her, but I don't ever respond positively to shame tactics.

In terms of actors, I LOVED Benedict Cumberbatch. I thought the first couple of seasons of Sherlock were brilliant... Then I found his fans...

Sherlock would be a big one for me. I thought the first season was mediocre at best. The fans pushed it to active dislike for me.

My reactions were opposite of yours. WW I found too Sue-ish, like everything just came easy to her during a time period things would not have come easy to women in general, and we were just supposed to just love her because she was there and overpowered. CM was overpowered too but at least had to deal with some shit. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both movies, but just couldn't find WW relatable at all.

Kind of this, yeah. I mean, I voted for him in the primary last time, and I like his policies on paper still, and would prefer him to Biden this time around, but his hardcore fans (and there’s probably some Russian sponsored assholes using them as cover) have taken the shine off.

Oh man same. I prefer him to Biden but his supporters' rabid bashing of everyone not Bernie combined with now constant predictions of how Trump's definitely going to be re-elected if Biden wins the primary (bc apparently even though Bernie supporters couldn't be bothered to vote in the primary they are *totally* gonna vote in the main election really we swear) has soured my enthusiasm quite a bit.

Kind of agree? Like, I would LOVE if he got in. But the Bernie fanboys (and girls, though I think there are less of them) who are ready to bellow any negative bullshit they hear about any other Dem candidates to tear them down because how dare they not be Bernie is really, really annoying.

Ted Mosby, though less the evangelizing of the fans than of the writers/creators.

Rose Tyler. Don't really hate her, but I can hate her when she gets aggressively pushed, and especially when Doctor/Rose gets aggressively pushed and she gets pushed as the Doctor's "true love."

Boba Fett. What to me used to be a nothing character who served a purpose and then was gone has gone to an actively disliked character because of the obsessive fans who try to make him more than he is and try to make the rest of us see him as important as they do.

I still like Rose, but I steered clear of NuWho fandom as much as I could.

And Mosby is actually an inverted case for me. I HATED him as written. He was the weakest part of the show, other than the ending (which actually made me regret the time I invested into it). But then I found the online discourse and all these people saying "If you like Ted Mosby your sexist and probably abusive" and I was like "Well, hang on now..."

Sera and Vivienne from Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Sera is a lesbian and Fantasy Oppressed Minority (Elf), Vivienne is black. Both of them are extremely hard to win over in game if you're not Their Type of Person, they're enormous snobs (in their own ways), and they're frequently nasty to and about people who've never done anything even a little rude or unpleasant to them.
As the cherries on top: Sera is the sort of person who says "I've never been discriminated against for my race, which means that every other member of my race who says they've been discriminated against is lying!" which, ew. Vivienne spends her time telling people that if they don't give the fantasy cops a reason to brutalise them, then the fantasy cops won't! Obviously!

Neither of them are particularly popular, but there is a certain number of keen Sera&Vivienne fans who will immediately ascribe all criticism to misogyny + (homophobia/racism).

Dorian and Krem have a similar problem. I wasn't much of a fan of Dorian but eh, okay, and didn't really care either way about Krem because he's a super unimportant side character but the amount of people completely glorifying both of them and shoving them in everyone's faces made me actively dislike them. Didn't help I played a male character and would have liked to romance another male character but I really didn't like either option. So Bull became this as well.

ooof, yeah. i actually like him as a character but good lord his fanbase is so loud and so stupid. i know not all of them are like that, but it's hard to find the more reasonable people within the chaos of fans acting like he's the only character in the MCU that has any issues.

I agree. I was annoyed that he took over things in the last two Avengers movies and in Civil War, but I still liked him as a character. Then his fans started being nasty to anyone who said anything remotely critical about him or how he was written. Then I did start to kind of dislike him. I don't hate him per say. But his fans have soured me more on him than I otherwise would have been.

MCU Loki. I actually enjoy him in the movies, but it takes about five seconds for his evangelistic fans to sour me on him whenever I dip a toe in fandom.

MCU Bucky fans have the same effect, but I don't even find the character charming in the actual canon. He wouldn't even be a blip on the radar for me if it weren't for the fans.

not really characters, but there are plenty of fanon ships i ended up with less than positive feelings towards because the fans kept insisting that these two straight characters were actually TOTES GAY and if you didn't agree you were a homophobe!!!

despite being a gay woman, i just know the difference between at an actual romance and wishful thinking, lmao. and this isn't knocking people shipping fanon, go for it, just stop telling me i'm bigoted for not sharing your headcanon.

I've had to actively work not to get turned off of Steve Rogers, because there are a lot of Steve fans who absolutely loathe Tony and seem to actively work to read the worst possible motives and slants into everything he does. Like, if you put Tony and SIM side by side, they'd be like, "Exact same guy."

That said, I still love Steve. I'll just sometime notice myself associating Steve with his most Tony-hating stans, and feeling negatively about him, and then I have to remind myself that has nothing to do with Steve the character.

Alisha from Tales of Zestiria. Fanboys who made her their waifu based on just her design pitched a fit because she didn't have a bigger role and harassed the voice actress for Rose, the character who replaced her. Tumblr pitched a fit because of a fabrication that those mean misogynist SorMik shippers hated their "lesbian" princess knight daughter for "getting in the way," when that actually never happened, at least not on a large enough scale to get mad over. Finally, the producers of the anime adaptation listened to the fanboys and changed the story to be all about her and it was awful. She was great as a character, but I wish she'd never existed at all.

From FFXV, Ignis' fans have made me absolutely loathe him. Which sucks! Because I liked him a lot when I was first playing the game. Now every time I see his face I just internally UGGGGHHHHHHH
