PLEASE TO BE MARRYING ME NOW.♥♥♥ Yeah yeah, I agree with the rest of your secret but seriously, you are the only person who's ever agreed with me on what I think of those other two books.

Hmm, let's see what we have here today!

101. You know, you should get some "dorkier" friends. I hope you eventually find people you can hang out with IRL AND rant about fandom with.

109. Aww. I think I remember reading on "jumptheshark" something along the lines of "He supposedly went off to college, but don't worry, anyone who needs pre-schoolers to help him count to ten probably isn't going to get that far in college." :D

111. Yes! I remember when I was at a museum with my brother, and he was whining about not having anywhere to sit down, and I jokingly said "Maybe the person playing keeps X-ing out the 'sit down' action!"
Also, funny I found this, because it's been forever since I played, but today for some reason, I was thinking about where my "needs" bars would be at XD

114. I hated Crocs at first, because I thought they looked "stupid", but then one day I had to take the dog out and couldn't find my shoes, so I borrowed my brother's Crocs instead, and it was that moment I realized why so many people like them! :D
Oh, and the fact that he wears them helps, too!

120. I don't know that fandom, but that pointy-nose guy is one of the most adorable things I've seen.

125. Aw, I still look back on some of my really old RPs and miss them. Now I'm REALLY wanting to go and make some secrets regarding years ago, only, if I submit them now, it would be a bit obvious to whoever's reading this. Ah well.

135. I didn't even think about that until now....

153. Well, I'm that way in Barnes and Noble, but with AMERICAN comics....so yeah, how would you feel about that?

155. All I know is you are getting MASSACRED for finding Twilight better than "classics". *sighs* Good luck....

Cultural spelling difference =/= slang.

I totally understand not wanting a British character to say 'trunk' or an American character to say 'lorry', but "colour"/"color"? Seriously? Do you honestly expect a Brit to take all the 'u's out of their words to suit?

I figure, the narrative can use anything it likes within reason, but if it's a characters speech or their thoughts? THAT'S when one should care about the cultural differences.

Not the OP, but yeah, I do. I put them in when I'm writing UK based fandoms and take them out for US. And I have less respect for people who don't take the trouble.

156

[identity profile] lauraluv.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
But without the McGeek bashing and the Gibbs-slaps, the show wouldn't be the same! It's like all the other random tidbits that make the show awesome. The Tony/Ziva or (previously) Tony/Kate sexual tension, the constant work-in-progress boats in Gibbs' basement, the coffee and slushie antics between Gibbs and Abby, how Ducky always talks to his corpses, how much Palmer gets weird stares, and don't forget the banter between everyone. There are so much more, but you get my point, right?

Changing one thing would be a horrible thing to do for the show. :P Just embrace it and watch, because it's definitely worth it. =3

Re: 156

[identity profile] kelleigh.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto!

I'd think something was WRONG with the show if there wasn't a GibbsSmack once an episode, or some version of McGee's name [Probalicious. McGoogle. McGPS. McMuse. McFreaky. On and on!]

106. They've definitely had sex. You can just tell.

114. Crocs are the colorful, rubbery shoes with holes in them, right? Why does everyone hate them? I don't own a pair myself, I was curious, cause I see mall kiosks for them everywhere.

126. Who?

127. Gaston is AWESOME.

130. I wish people would leave her alone already too. D:

134. I share in your fantasies, and I'd go after the same people. XD LET'S START OUR OWN WATCHMEN!

144. I'm not in the fandom, but I like him too. I don't find him as interesting as Veidt, though.

147. I've wanted to know for YEARS now, too.

160. Oh, Mortal Kombat... how the mighty have fallen. ._. The free play in Deception was fun though, however.

165. That's really cute.

OP of Secret 160 here!

Oh my god, I totally know what you mean! I was going to make a secret about this myself! I watched the show the other day for the first time and that dude got attacked by a dog, and all the other characters were such jerks to him. They came off a total jackasses D:

Re: 156 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-11-27 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
I get that some people think it's cute and that they've apparently "stopped doing it as much" but that doesn't stop it from being inappropriate behavior on the job even more then the rest of the stuff. That sort of thing does happen in the military/ other jobs and it's dehumanizing and makes people insecure and damages performances. I know I'm taking it too seriously, but it's irritating and they should project a better face on how to treat your coworkers. :(

[identity profile] part-b.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
124. I SPY TRAP!CIEL. Just thought I'd say.

127. FUCK YES. Gaston ILU. Seriously, as a little girl I thought Gaston was the coolest shit since sliced bread.

135. OH SCREW YOU. ;; I hadn't even thought of that. *sobs*

144. DISCUSSION. I need to discuss why I don't like Doctor Manhattan with someone. Ughdsasfkldas he just really bothers me. But in some ways, I feel really bad for him and thus like him.

147. Me too.

165. This is one of the sweetest secrets ever. Aw. ♥

170

[identity profile] ladyfiresprite.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I know this show and these characters! <3

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
107. Um. For the record, the Sixth Doctor was...Maxill, was it? It's not drastically uncommon to reuse actors in the show, and Rodrick was a bit part.

That said, I so don't want him for 11 because he creeps me the heck out. Benjamin, de Carabas, Rodrick...I'm sorry, that's three smug-smarmy snakes to dissociate him with and (much as I love Book!de Carabas), they all freaked me out.
Besides...I want 11 to be ginger!

108. My Dad said it looked depressing or something. But he's the one who got me into Dead Like Me, so, I dunno. But I'd like to get the show just to sit him down and make him watch it.

110. Actually, I don't think it was only meant to be funny. Funny can be poignant and true. Bruce Almighty, to me, is not only hilarious, but is a beautiful movie that reaffirms the way I view faith. The best movies are the ones that can be funny and meaningful at the same time. Tough line to walk.

121. Word. I loved chuckling over the line about "Like a love note by Robert Browning" and nerdy things like that.

122. ...Great. Now I ship Iroh/Ursa. None of the rest of it though.

133. I feel the same way. My bro and I aren't (exactly) twins, but we're close, and it just weirds me out.

138. Aww...I liked it.

144. I felt...nothing...for him. Does that count?

151. Well, for the record, I have heard "tv" a lot over here. And sland is one thing, but I really don't think you can nitpick over the regionalised spelling. If Harry and his friends talk about their favourite "color"...it doesn't in any way take away from the story.

153. Didn't this secret get posted, like, half a year ago or something? Sounds familiar.

164. I never looked at it that way, but now I think I like her even more.

166. You, me, and everybody.

169. Artist?!?

172. Agreed.

153 - LOL, Why are they at Barnes and Nobles anyway? You guys have a crappy manga section. I thought these kids knew they're supposed to go to Borders - they're the ones who keep shit in stock! (J/k, BTW. I'm sure it varies by region in any case)

I worked fulltime for a year and a half at a Waldenbooks and Borders Books and Music. It's such a bizarre thing to me - I have been an anime and manga fan for nearly 12 years, and the same store used to maybe have half a shelf of manga. Most people who worked there didn't know the term. Now a days, Borders caters to these fans WAAAAAAAY too fucking much - to the point where I had to let them stand around and read the manga in the store. (In a WALDENS. That's a TINY store to just let people stand and read in!) While I'd sometimes meet cool fans whom I could have conversations with, I would get my share of annoying anime fanbrats as well. I don't work retail anymore, but when I go to stores that have an anime/manga section, I'm sometimes afraid I'll end up having an annoying fan encounter.

And you have to imagine how embarrassing it is for me, because it makes ignorant people like yourself, who immediately label a monstrously large group based on the actions of a loud and vocal few, think that ALL anime and manga fans behave like this. Are there ones that do? You bet. Do all of us act this way, or condone actions like this in public place like a mall? Heeeeelll no. In fact, they annoyed the fuck out of me too, and I got to deal with it 40 hours a week.

I'd still take squeeing teenagers over the political extremist who came in and would try to push their beliefs on you as you're helping them. And might I add, you get annoying kids for things other than manga. But yes, bottom line is, they do suck, even when you enjoy the genre.

...Oh, wow. I somehow NEVER got that in retail. But then again I worked at a Target, but...geez, that's just horribly rude. What is HAPPENING to manners in our country? It's driving me up the wall.

They're not related. It's not the same thing.

[identity profile] honestys-easy.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
111. I have the nasty habit of thinking of my daily needs as Sims bars, especially if more than 2 of them are low and I can't do 'anything about it. I become a grumbly mess just like my Sims if I'm working and my hunger and energy are at red. And when I went to a restaurant the other day with my boyfriend, and the waitress seated us at a four-person table, I thought, "well, that's just silly of her, now she will miss the 4-person party that will come in and can't sit at a 2-person table!" Diner Dash completely takes over my brain that way, I'm glad I never worked in a restaurant.

118. Now see, Don/Charlie is the one brother pair on tv that I DON'T ship. I just think their relationship as brothers is way more interesting and less co-dependent than others and doesn't need the added romantic layer to be something I really like looking into and analyzing. And it's not because I prefer them with women, I think the show's done a shit job of writing Don's relationships, but I just don't see them that way. But to each their own. (Oh, and I didn't notice Charlie's Linkin Park shirt! Now I love him even more!)

133. Don't like it, don't read it. Unless people are directly writing twincest about you and your twin, then, uh, ignore it? There are things in fandom that people don't like, deal with it.

135. That's mighty presumptuous of you, automatically thinking that you're going to live a long life.

151. But on the flip side, if I'm reading a fic where the locality is important (e.g. a Harry Potter fic and duh they're in Britain), and the author randomly and gratuitously inserts local slang just so they could be *edgy* or because they think they need it, I can't read it either.

175. The Obama/Biden groupsex on inauguration day is going to be epic.

WORD TO THE Nth POWER.

Except I actually think the show has done a very good job of presenting Don as an utter horndog bordering on sex addict. HE SLEPT WITH A PROTECTED WITNESS. DOES IT GET ANY LOWER. (And I'd still hit it. G-d help me.)

111. I think of myself like a Sim, too! XD

135. Look at the bright side! You might not.

151. The way one spells "colour" is not slang. It's a spelling. I'm not going to, according to my personal habits, misspell words just so you can read my fic. But with everything else, I relatively understand what you mean. I don't stop reading the fic (if everything else is good, at least) but it does kinda hault me for a second.

164. It sounds silly and spoiled, but I know what you mean. I felt the same way.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
155. Lol. I'm just gonna call fail on the incorrect use of "there" in a literary secret where the poster tries to convince us that they have a worthwhile literary opinion (that is to say, everyone's opinion is worth something, but if you're going to splash it up here, might as well be prepared to take some flak). "Badly told" as Tom Sawyer indeed. Is it opposite day, or something?

145. That's actually because it's supposed to. Well, I mean, it's not supposed to look like he's raping her specifically, but it wasn't supposed to be an "aww, they're in love" kind of scene, but more of an, "well, that's fucked up" deal.

I don't like Twilight, yes, I've read it but I still don't care for it. If I said that in my class, I'd be massacred. Yes, it's that crazy.

But don't worry, I'm not an avid hater, there are sane and sensible people who don't like it but don't pick on its fans too.

My apartment building manager dated the actress when she was 17, right before she ran off to replace Becky in Rosanne.

Just some random tidbit of info thar. lol
