I thought Beetlejuice was a scary movie when I was little. I loved it, but I thought it was real horror and not horror comedy.

Oh and I still have a mild phobia of E.T., lol.

Oh same! Maybe it has something to do with kids being able to hear higher frequencies? You should check out the X-files "Love Theme", it's chill af - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yDe97WGYsY

For so long, I assumed I wouldn't enjoy horror movies at all, because I was scared really easily by movies (that weren't even supposed to be scary) as a kid. But I actually love them, and was surprised when I gave a horror movie a try and wasn't particularly scared the whole time. Preferences change a lot!

As for why it scared you so much, I think movies can be especially overwhelming for kids, and kids have way less experience with the world, so it's harder for them to notice when special effects are silly/cheesy. That might be some of why?

A K-drama called My Only Love Song about a diva actress who is starring in a historical drama who ends up going back in time to the period that the drama takes place. I think it's only like 12 episodes but god, it made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me laugh again.

Dean from Supernatural?

I like to knit or crochet while I'm watching things.

While I can and do watch subtitled shows, the extra complication of glancing down at my hands, then the subtitle, then the actors' faces etc. is an issue. (Not insurmountable - I've dived into C-dramas lately - but it's an issue.)

You would think that people who really prioritize height differences in sexual dynamics would check first before committing to a particular arrangement. If you feel the characters should do things a certain way only to find out that the heights don't work out the way you would have felt was "proper," then take that as a sign that height doesn't need to be an important factor in these things.

(If it's a situation where you don't know the character's relative heights - say, it's a book that doesn't describe their heights - I see nothing wrong with making things up. If a later installment describes their heights, then I can forgive people sticking with what they had made up. It can be hard to adjust how you see a character in your mind's eye after getting used to seeing them a certain way.)

I always giggle when brown-eyed folks are described as having chocolate eyes. I get an image of someone taking a bite out of it, like a thick-shelled truffle.

Right now, Ashes of Love.

It lured me in with a dipshit grape elf and mild romantic hijinks and then started hitting me with Feelings. I am far too attached to minor characters, who could die at any moment, and have strong opinions about who the heroine should end up with.

Probably Elite, The House of Flowers, and High Seas.

Love that there is so much Spanish-language stuff on Netflix!

1) Adolescence— Brown Bird
2) Infected— Repo! The Genetic Opera
3) Sanctified— Nine Inch Nails
4) Icarus— Jason Webley
5) Sugarbread— Soap&Skin
6) FOR I AM THE LIGHT (AND MINE IS THE ONLY WAY NOW)— Lingua Ignota
7) The Glow, Pt. 2— The Microphones
8) War Machine— Dm Stith
9) I AM THE BEAST— Lingua Ignota
10) whichever song plays at the end of the movie hereditary— Colin Stetson

That's pretty frustrating.

I guess some could actually be partially colorblind, but the sheer number of people getting the wrong eye color (and hair color) in fic makes me wonder if they were paying attention at all. Sometimes I even start to wonder if everyone has the same color definitions, but that disturbs me so I try to steer away from it.

This is logical, but I think you're coming at it from a whole different angle than they are.

I think most people who change the heights of the characters pick which character the want to bottom/top based on what the character's like, what the pairing dynamic is, and also (for some people) which character they personally identify with more.

Then, once they've picked their preferred top/bottom dynamic, they change the heights because for them it just makes things hotter. They're not doing it because they think the bottom has to be petite. They're doing it because they want the bottom to be petite, because it's hotter to them if he is.

That's kind of a fanmix for my life up till halfway through last year, hopefully the next segment of the fanmix for my life will transition into some like... lo-fi chill beats to study to or something, lol.

oh god there was one skins writer back in the days when anybody cared about skins who used "chocolate orbs" LITERALLY EVERY OTHER PARAGRAPH and it drove me fucking nuts

(way too much sapphire too)

Yes.

Though, occasionally, things like framing, filming tricks, wardrobe, and posture are used to make characters taller/shorter than their actors and that can muddy the waters.

Also, I'm not a big fan of epithets anyway, but if an author uses taller man/shorter man, the characters better be at least a couple of inches in difference, so I don't have to look it up to figure out who the author is referring to.

Yeah, I know the joke is that "everyone wants to fuck Cloud" but jfc did they need to be so overt about it? He was uncomfortable, and I was really uncomfortable.

I used to be a big bi!Cloud multishipper, but now I only ship Barret/Cloud (which I didn't really before, interestingly) because god at least Barret didn't shove himself up in Cloud's space and make shit weird. Ugh.

This was 100% my guess too, anon. I remember this happening ALL THE TIME back when I used to read Supernatural fic.

I like a lot of the non-English content. Dark is good, I LOVE High Seas, and I am here for any country they want to make Nailed It in next.

Lord, yes. That show creeped me the hell out as a kid. I loved it, though :D.

The person who wrote the 9000 word review seems....a bit over the top.
This is not remotely my cuppa, and I won't be reading it - has anyone here? Other than not being a great book (maybe) - how 'appalling' was it?

(Anonymous) 2020-05-21 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Uuuugh, I hate that shit so much.

Especially because the color of a chocolate truffle, for instance, and the color of actual brown eyes is....really nothing alike.

Brown eyes have much more 'color' to them, if that makes sense - chocolate is kinda dull.
