Huh, I think I get that - outside of context, there's no music, just the wind and storm gusting outside and a slightly long shot of the first man searching. But then suddenly you're closer to the action, and then that sound as the masked man's pulled up!

But Kylo is only 4 cm taller than Hux. Broader, yes. But "much taller than him Kylo" is actually one of the "fandom gets it wrong" cases, no matter who tops. They are not much apart in height at all.

Yeah it's this weird backlash against the "more masculine guy tops" trope. They try to be subversive of this trope but still have other tropes firmly embedded in their minds and that results in "look how subversive I am, making this masculine dude the BOTTOM but whoops, gotta make him smaller and weepy because he can't be a proper uke otherwise".

Wait, the two terms are interchangeable? I thought giving head is penis in mouth and eating out is tongue in hole.

He was not even a little digging it, imo. He constantly pushed her away and reacted with annoyance at best.

See, I also was a theatre kid and knew girls like that. Andthe way they behaved was just as shitty. Like, the shit they pulled would have gotten male students in major trouble for sexual harrassment. Just because they're used to getting away with it or even conditioned into doing it doesn't make it okay.

The Witcher (Netflix) fandom does this a *lot*. There's a 3 cm difference between the actors, but so much of the fanart has Jaskier a good head smaller than Geralt, and looking like a teenaged boy on top of it. I don't really mind in fic - between the books, games, one other show and one movie that all pre-date the Netflix show, fans mix and match in their fic, and the characters are a lot more fluid. But art that is so clearly depicting Joey Batey's Jaskier and Henry Cavill's Geralt showing a difference like that? It just rubs me the wrong way.

What people were rude to him (besides Barret for plot reasons)? I feel like I am missing something here

(Anonymous) 2020-05-21 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. I love subtitles because I love hearing the original voices and, when possible, expressions and little things that get lost in the dub. Honestly, for the people complaining, thats what the dubs are for.

The lady who rented out the room. Several of the shopkeepers. This was especially grating at the beginning when Tifa basically wanted him to threaten people into giving her money for sometimes faulty water filters but kept admonishing him to be nice at the same time. She generally kept doing that even when he just... didn't say much which isn't exactly being rude. Several of the people giving out quests were also pretty entitled anout it.

Dark has been incredible so far

(Anonymous) 2020-05-21 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I just learned something new. Why did so many of us read it as Homestruck?

CENTIPEDES!!! FUCKING SPIDERS!!! AND LIVING IN CONSTANT FEAR OF WHEN, NOT IF, BUT WHEN EXACTLY THE ANTS INVADE AND SWARM AND MULTIPLY!! BECAUSE IT'S ANT SEASON, AND IT SIMPLY CANNOT BE STOPPED!! THEY LIVE IN YOUR WALLS, WAIT FOR YOU TO LET YOUR GUARD DOWN! AND THEN THEY HAVE THE GALL TO PLAY WITH US! EVEN AS WE EXIST IN A STATE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TORTURE JUST WAITING FOR THE INEVITABLE FINALY COME DOWN TO SMITE US ALL!!! FIRST IT'S JUST OH NO IS THAT AN ANT THERE? MAYBE IT CAME IN WITH THE MAIL!! AND THEN A FEW DAYS WITH NO SIGHTINGS LATER, IS THAT ANOTHER ANT OR TWO OVER THERE? HUH, THE CAT PROBABLY BROUGHT THEM IN! ....BUT THEN- ...IT HAPPENS... THERE IS NO ESCAPE. THERE IS NO HOPE. ANT SEASON HAS BEGUN.
AND THOUSANDS OF DISGUSTING CREEPY FUCKING UGLY CRITTERS HAVE INVADED YOUR HOME. THEY'RE STAKING OUT YOUR CUPBOARDS, FEASTING ON YOUR CRUMBS, AND SHACK UP IN CARPETS, UNDER RUGS, AND EVEN DISH TOWELS!! NOTHING IS SAFE FROM THESE FEINDS, THEY ALREADY KNOW YOUR GREATEST WEAKNESSES!! YOU'VE ALREADY LOST SINCE THE MOMENT SPRING SO CARELESSLY DECIDED TO SPRUNG!!!!!!!!

But, y'know not other than having a pretty bad (TW: Possible TMI) menstrual cycle this month, something that's become the norm essentially since I first got it, I just pretty much hate spring and all the horrible things it brings with it... like the smell of worms, for instance. As soon as it begins to rain, all I smell is worms, so gross.

I always thought it was Homestruck too until I saw this secret.

+1, I have yellowish-green eyes with a dark blue ring around the iris and I get everything from "blue" to "green" to "brown" to "yellow". Lighting makes a big difference!

Yeah, I can still see why it had such an impact. And in the movie there was this legend of the dead man and I was fascinated by that. That movie was on TV often and I always wanted to rewatch it despite being so scared. Now that I rewatched it I'm amazed that it was just this little scene. I thought there would have been more of it.

Good thing he isn't real and can be interpreted in different ways that are both valid due to neither being able to confirm or deny how he really felt about it due to not having felt any real way about it due to not being real.

It depends, generally, on the character for me.

I have a feeling that you specifically mentioned actors and especially eyecolour, since it's an immediately recognizable feature that can't be changed up as easily as most other identifiable traits, such as hairstyle, hair colour, build, and to a certain degree skin tone. Though contacts do exist, technically- and I have actually seen a writer decided that Character A now has 'super dreamy' grey eyes because 'they could, because contacts' even though nothing in the fic made reference or supported it, and only as a response from the writer after they had been called out (I think it was) for getting the eyecolour wrong- it's a pretty heavy push to make and still have the character be recognizable for who they are.

Personally, it bothers me more when writers change the more 'excusable' of recognizable character traits, like hair style, and dye, because in that case it's usually because the writer just doesn't care about who they're actually writing about, or that they're clearly far too worried about showing off how 'mainstream' they ttly r bye pushing their savvy maesthetic skillz on chctr whoo totez needz 'da facelift... kind of thing...
I have a knee jerk reaction to exit out of every fic where a character suddenly has an undercut, and fuck, it's like Oprah's giving them out for free, because everyone seems to have one regardless of if the hairstyle is even popular in the time period of the canon or if it's even suited to the character themselves.

With eye colour I just hold back because chances are the writer just has no clue about what they're writing about and are either going by hearsay, or idk, something else entirely. I'll get through it just to get through it because at least the attempt at trying can sometimes not be completely horrible?

Of course the newer I am in a fandom, and every time I enter a fandom with multiple medias associated with it, I don't judge much at all, unless I know for a fact what the writers are referencing when detailing the character. Like with certain video games/some comics where the original concept art is common knowledge but was rejected for the 'official' look shown in canon, or a book turned movie like Harry Potter where Harry 'has his mothers eyes' but the colour doesn't necessarily need to match.
Fuckm I don't even know what I'm trying to say anymore...basically, shit can be complicated sometimes. Fine in multimedia circumstances and a easy warning sign in basically any other.

After watching the first Gremlins movie I was terrified that there was one under my bed. I refused to put my toes anywhere near it, and would take running jumps to get onto it XD

Yeah, it feels like it's manipulatively shoehorning gender normative roles into places that should be free of them by definition. It's 2020 and we can't have a sexual receiver who isn't coded as the 'woman'? Really?
