If you keep supporting people who make openly transphobic statements, and follow organisations that are bigotted (the LGB alliance), and keep misgendering trans people, people are going to assume you're a bigot or are at least okay with bigotted views being acceptable.

There's an easy way to show people you're not a bigot - you stop doing both of these things, but JK doesn't seem interested in stopping.

anyway I feel you, it's a huge bummer but to me it helps - in a way - that so many of her later additions to the canon have seemed so bad. a lot of engaging with HP fandom for me involves coming up with new stuff anyway, so it doesn't feel like it's tainted by her.

I mean, I read all the discourse even before she did all the super blatant stuff, especially the underlying antisemitism of the goblins and not-so-great implications of the return to the status quo ending. I feel like I can look at HP as a critical audience. Still, I'll always appreciate what the series was to me, and if I enjoy shit I know would piss her off, GOOD.

Eh there's plenty of people who hate Rowling and are still doing their own thing in the HP fandom. But I get why you wouldn't want part of that because of the reminder - hope you find another fandom you can have twice the fun in OP :)

I'll let you in on a secret, OP.

A lot of famous content creators, be they movie directors, novelists, or musicians, are often extremely problematic and have shitty beliefs.

The good news is you can still consume their shit anyway. Harry Potter was not created to be an anti-trans screed. Just ignore JKR and enjoy her shit the way you see fit. JKR is not the first popular novelist to turn out to be kind of shitty (remember Anne Rice?) and she won't be the last.

Fandom has always been a "take this idea someone made and turn it into your own sandbox" situation anyway.

I feel you, OP... There are definitely things that have been 'ruined' for me after finding out the person who made them is a shitstick. Strangely enough, tho, HP is not one of those things. At leas the original seven books aren't.

Like, since JKR seems unable to shut her yap and keeps piling on bullshit after bullshit on the original canon, I had long ago decided to go full 'death of the author' and personally only considered the 7 original books as the only HP canon, and something that I can still enjoy whenever I want. It's not like I'm supporting her anymore, the copies I have were bought upon release and I refuse to buy the script book of that stupid play, nor to watch the fantastic beasts movie. So, since I had long put this sort of divide in my brain, when it turned out JKR is also a shitty TERF I was able to shrug and go "eh, not surprised, still like the books tho"

That said, the heydays of the HP fandom for me are long over, and nowadays I don't care to participate in it anymore, I just occasionally re-read the books. So I don't know if going 'death of the author' would work with you, since the fandom rn is probably full of discourse because of JKR exploits.

I hope you'll find a way to get your enjoyment of this series back, OP.

Ah that's a tough place to be. Even though making fanworks isn't directly giving her money, I think I understand where you are coming from. Something you've loved and supported for so long is run by someone who carries a view that you fundamentally disagree with or you feel is behaving unethically, yeah I think I would have a hard time too if it were one of my fandoms. Sorry you feel like it ruined a big fandom experience for you, OP.

Biological sex is a literal fact. It might be hard to deal with when you have dysphoria, but it still remains a scientific truth none the less.

You are born, generally, as male or female. Body parts are the main show as to who's who. Trans Identity is separate from Sexual and Biological Identities. They are are separate things because they do not overlap in their understanding/preferences/beings of who they are. And there is nothing wrong with that.
We are not talking about fish or any other species whose quirks distinguish themselves from our own, we are talking about the Homosapien evolution that allowed us to exist today. Biological sex is in fact real. There is no disputing this. I am a woman because of what my body was born to be, biologically female.

Transexuals do not decide their actions based on 'male'/'female' stereotypes. By denying biological sex you are denying a persons right to define themselves as who they are by this standard, you are allowing stereotype to be the only means to define sex.
Naturally produced hormones, body parts, and living through the tortures of growing up and living with those traits is the result of biological sex. There is no pretending this fact does not exist simply because someone might think it could challenge someones way of life. Simply because it is common does not mean it is invalid.
