120 (BAWWW GILES. :C) I don't like what Dawn represents or her characterization prior or its development. It would have been -right- for her to die, because IMO Buffy was doing it for all the wrong reasons and ugh, I hate the writers for fucking it all up. While it's still the awesomest series of my life, I sort of want to have a time machine and shove the writers of Season 1-3 to go beat up 5-7. (lol, season 4 I'm sort of fenced on)

123 She's not a full-fledged lesbian though? She had canon sexual crushes on Xander, Giles, and was in love with Oz, and she definitely liked the sex. Like with her evil twin in doppleganger I found Willow bisexual. Or anything sexual. So long as it's not an evil robot.

what do you mean? Buffy sacrificed herself because she had multiple prophetic dreams and a vision quest that informed her that it was her destiny to die in Dawn's place. and she never felt right about killing Dawn because it was the wrong thing to do. it was her destiny to die in that exact way, at that exact time.

I TOTALLY GET WHAT YOU'RE ON ABOUT.

Although I don't like Cable and Dom as much as other comic characters and thus don't know them AS well, I DO know them and CAN compare them and... omg, so perfect!

I get weirded out because there are tons of honestly NOT HEALTHY RLY relationships in literature, even (or especially!) classical literature, and people seem to want to act like Twilight is the first, last, and Lucifer-grade WORST example of this. The explanation I've heard that makes sense is that Twilight is marketed as true, healthy love and is aimed at young teen girls, and even then it's kind of lame because from what I've heard, Edward is a pretty healthy relationship that a girl can have... WITH A MOTHERFUCKING VAMPIRE. XD;

Still, the argument that Spoiler isn't supposed to be amazing and perfect and wonderful and swoonworthy by definition, and Jacob is, may explain why a lot more people are willing to forgive her. I personally love twisted characters -- it's how they're presented that can occasionally make me raeg.

(Hallo Reborn, I don't care where you're headed Tsuna-romance-wise, I'm good with any of the gals; Keroro, whatever you do with Fuyuki-and-Momoka-and-Alisa, I shall be a happy clam!) I do actually have a few ships that I hope don't become canon, though, and that's a little embarrassing for me. I know how weird it feels to me is only because of my headcanon, but... the other (both other?) potential pairing/s in one case feel so, so much more right, balanced, and interesting than the more "normal" one, and I hope the series doesn't go there. >:

As a lesbian character. Though I loved Willow's character more. XD I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THAT MAKES SENSE.

160. I think the thing that people forget (and I would love to see more people mess around with in fic!) is that... yes, Ginny had a crush on Harry's fame before she even met Harry. She was like... what, eight? Nine? What do people really expect? Pretty much any girl would realistically have that response. Just because she started off having a crush on him because of that, doesn't mean that once she did meet him, got to know him more, she couldn't have switched to liking him for him. After all, it could easily be written that she lost interest in him after getting to know him better -- the allure of "omg a legend" wore off, he's just a boy, and while he's a friend she's just not into him anymore -- so why not the other way around? She realizes that he's not a legend, he is just a boy... and she really, really likes that boy?

Sorry to TL;DR, but while the pairing was handled not-so-well in the books, I'm sort of surprised that no one really thinks about things like this, and dismisses their first meeting as all there ever could be to their relationship. AND EXTRA NOTE, THAT PICTURE IS FREAKING ADORABLE. *A* ♥♥♥♥

I think most people in fandom know this, actually. The problem is that it's never shown to happen. Harry and Ginny don't spend time together, the don't have conversations, and they don't seem to have anything in common, until Ginny's character has a makeover in the fifth book.

104: I think it's the most boring, predictable choice possible. Main female/main male character? It's how it always ends. I want something more interesting. I'm hoping for Maka/Crona, and that Crona is a girl. They have wonderful chemistry, and lots of subtext already!

151: I agree SO MUCH with everything you said. Do you know what the first thing I did after finishing the trilogy was? I went online to see if everybody else thought the ending was as awful as I did. Turned out that most of them did haha. XD

As for forbidding fanfic, I think that's one of the wankiest and annoying things you can do as a writer. It will kill the fandom, and, which is detrimental to the author directly, lessen the fans interest in their work.

Yeah, see... I already saw that correlation with Sam/Ruby and Dean/Castiel, and it's not like the latter has to be made canon or anything, it's just that one brother has an angel on his shoulder and the other has a demon. So it seems unnecessary to put Anna into that role, especially since Castiel was already an established character with an established relationship with Dean when she came around; it's not like Kripke needed to create a new character for that, if that's what he's aiming for.

151. I'd never even heard of Robin Hobb until a friend of mine posted a link to her little anti-fanfic tantrum. Pissed me off so much that I've never touched any of her books. Shame, because they look interesting, but I just can't see my way to supporting an author with that attitude. (Especially when there's so much published fanfiction right there in the bookstore.) Sorry, bb; you're not that special. There are too many other -- and better -- authors out there who aren't so into themselves.

I understand authors' annoyance at fans thinking they know the characters and canon better than the person who came up with them in the first place. It makes sense to me that Annie Proulx dislikes fan attempts to "fix" Brokeback Mountain with a happy ending. However, this is an issue of people failing to understand a work and thinking they know it better than those who created it in the first place.

The sort of blanket anti-fanfic horseflop that Hobb spewed was short-sighted, ignorant, and a failed attempt to draw lines in a huge gray area. She displayed little understanding of the concept of expanding upon pre-existing canon, let alone the creativity potential for well-done works of this nature.

I wonder if Ms. Hobby High Horse and people of her ilk would shit all over classic novel rewrites done from the point of view of a minor character. Or interpretations of older works in an alternate universe setting, such as West Side Story, which can be considered fan fiction of Romeo and Juliet. Let's not forget historical fiction that includes real people. Oops, there goes that pre-existing characterization again. Caleb Carr must not have an original thought in his head.

I also wonder what she thinks of Neil Gaiman, who re-imagined Snow White from the stepmother's point of view, or Timothy Zahn, known for his Star Wars novels as well as original fiction. And how about the artists and writers carrying on the stories of comic book characters, both in drawn and live action movie form, that were originally developed many years ago? They might be employed by the characters' copyright holders, but they're still working with someone else's original creation.

While I'd agree that pre-emptively bawling about how new fans will "ruin" the fandom, I'd disagree that there's no cause to believe that the fandom will grow because of the movie. On my friendslist alone I've got five people who didn't even know what Watchmen was before the trailer was released who are now writing Watchmen slash. These are people I tried to get to read it ages ago and brushed it off as "not [their] thing." So yes, new fans have already embraced it and started writing. Whether the movie succeeds in theaters is almost a moot point.
