Fandom secrets you don't feel like making--

Yes, messages like "it is okay for men to cry" are good. But I wish there was more media with messages about it being okay to not be an emotional person or that being a logical person doesn't mean you don't care about people. Media seems to say that only emotional, think with their heart people are good, and that's frustrating.

I wish Shinji Ikari and Kaworu Nagisa were the same character. Evangelion would have been so much better for me if the protagonist had Shinji's drama, Kaworu's design, and a hybrid version of both their background stories. I don't like either character as they stand now but if they'd been combined? Sure, that'd be an entertaining lead right there.

I've started rewatching the original Star Trek, and it is a lot better than I remember. Sure, it is cheesy and the effects are bad, but a lot of the stories are solid and fun. Also, I think I'm developing a thing for Kirk. He's pretty sexy. Not as sexy as reboot!Kirk, but reboot!kirk is the only good part of those movies.

I’m mad Taylor Swift has a new album out already solely because I wanted more singles off Lover. I could have been bopping to "Cruel Summer" on the radio this summer, but nooooo! She had to call the cycle quits with that dud "The Man."

(Yes, I'm the one person in America that still listens to the radio. SecretMaker, you don't have to include this bit in the secret. šŸ˜…)

Even on a good day "pair the spares" annoys me, but there's no flavor of it that annoys me more than conveniently shunting the female love interest of one half of a gay fanon ship onto another woman, especially if it's someone she has no canon connection to whatsoever.

Don't pretend you ship yuri when you don't. It's fine. It's just insulting for someone to be like "oh I totally ship X/Y yuri ship! /posts literally nothing but A/B yaoi ship"; you don't get extra special Queer Points for claiming to also love lesbian ships when they are at the absolute bottom of your interest list. It's clear as day that you're just trying to get the girl out of the way. Just own it.

Katamari Damacy was the peak of gaming for me and that's devastating. It was so simple and pure in both design and mechanics, achieving exactly what it set out to do, that it was effectively perfect and I don't suspect I'll ever get a gamer high like that ever again. I almost wish I hadn't experienced it, if only because it has me craving for more of what I'll likely never find elsewhere.

I'm surprised Crash Bandicoot doesn't have a larger furry fandom. Spyro's is huge. (See what I did there? Har har.)

I think Worf was a better character on DS9 than on TNG. I never found him interesting on TNG, other than a handful of episodes. But on DS9 he became on of my favorite characters. It helped that Jadzia's stories had already made Klingon culture more interesting to me. But Worf himself really came into his own on DS9, and I loved the familial relationship he formed with Martok.

I still think Kira should have been the one to take out Dukat. Sure Dukat was the main villain and Sisko was the main hero. But Kira was more connected to Dukat, had more of a reason to oppose him, and Dukat himself had connected their storylines the most.

I didn't mind the idea of the Section 31 storyline, but I wish they hadn't tied it to Julian Bashir, one of my least favorite characters. And it just wasn't as well done as it could have been. It was a good idea, but it was kind of badly executed.

Garak/Bashir is a fine ship. I even ship it. But my Bashir slash OTP has always been O'Brien/Bashir. Yes, I know Miles is married. I ship him and Keiko too. But I just always gravitate towards friendship ships, and I loved the Miles/Julien relationship. They have chemistry and I like shipping them.

I haven't bought any official merch in ages, and I only buy fanmade stuff like doujinshis, charms, prints and such. The legality doesn't really concern me, only that the fanmade stuff tends to be so much more cuter and imaginative.

And if the official merch is limited to Funko Pops? I don't feel the least bit guilty.

I really hate that Jared Leto went back to acting. One, because it meant he started either being more of a bad actor (in the bad person way) or it started being known a lot more. Two because I hate his acting but was really into 30 Seconds to Mars.

S!B: Usually people just shit on both. Like, I actually liked the music. Was it partially because it was easily accessible and on the local rock/indie rock radio? Yeah, but I still liked it.

I recently watched Disney's Descendants and I know it's meant to be ridiculous and fun and not really deeply analyzed, but I keep thinking of all the implications of it (raising kids on what is essentially a prison island, crowning a 16-year-old ruler for no apparent reason, pretty much zero transition or preparation for the kids, etc.). I liked the movie, but I would very much appreciate it if my brain could stop interrogating the narrative from this perspective and just enjoy it for what it is.

I unfortunately have a bad habit of subconsciously trying to force myself to like parings/characters just because they happen to be popular(especially if the ship is well-liked and canon). It's not deliberate, and it's not anyone else's fault, but some part of my brain always goes: 'people like it so clearly I must like it too!' whenever I enter a new fandom and I'll spend the first month or so stubbornly trying to make myself like something that I'm really not interested in.

I eventually break out of it and focus on the parts of a canon I do actually love, but it's annoying and I get frustrated with myself every time it happens.

There are few storylines I hate more than the "character proves their love is real by choosing their lover over the greater good" storylines. Yes, most people if they saw a gun to their partner's head would do what they had to to save their partner. But these storylines invariably imply that people who do choose the greater good just don't love their partner enough, and that's not the way it works.

So I just read the newest Penric novella by Lois McMaster Bujold, then started watching the DC Universe Swamp Thing, and I have only myself to blame for not reading a synopsis of either before diving in.

The previous Penric books had him treating everything from lice to burns to cancer. It makes total sense that he'd run into a an epidemic of a previously unknown hemorrhagic illness at some point.

And there's no reason Abby Arcane couldn't be a doctor working for the CDC called back to her Louisiana hometown to help study a mysterious, deadly, rapidly spreading new disease. I liked that better than in Moore's run where she was kind of childish and dependent on her husband and then on Alec.

But please, can the next thing I watch or read have more escape in the escapism?

I'm sad the new(ish) Swamp Thing streaming series wasn't renewed because I am predictable as hell and ship Abby/(Swamp Thing) Alec like a supertanker, and there are only a tiny handful of fics on Ao3.

Possible spoilers for Castlevania season 3

For some reason, I was incredibly uncomfortable with the sex scenes at the end of season 3 of Castlevania. I'm not sure if it was the constant switching between gore/fighting scenes and the sex scenes, that the scene with Hector was basically rape portrayed as sexy or that the scene with Alucard came kinda out of the fucking nowhere. Probably a combination of all three. But in any case, it made me stop watching.

After that wank under the recent Inuyasha secret, I'm once again very glad that I never got into the series back in the day. Everything I see (and have seen) about the fandom makes me think it's one big dumpster fire full of spiteful people and everything I know about the series itself (and all the other series by the same creator) is enough for me to know I would absolutely hate it considering all the tropes the creator is fond of using are all the ones I loathe.
