Now, kinks are kinks, and I'm not kinkshaming you when I tell you that incest is fucked up, because there's usually a power imbalance involved and sometimes coercion and abuse (IRL). I have a huge kink for it in fic, and almost all the fic I read and write has incest ships.

However, I think it is absolutely 100% fucked up IRL and I do not condone IRL incest whatsoever.

The reason why I ship the incest ships I do is not really so much because of the incest itself - though the entire family is dysfunctional and that's their way of coping, unhealthy or not - but because the characters themselves are hot, and their dynamic with each other is more interesting than other characters I could ship them with (especially het pairings).

But the thought of IRL incest squicks me. Immensely.

A lot of people have fantasies about things they would never, ever do in real life. Fiction is not reality. People who don't like it can use the block functions that exist on A03, just like I block out other things I don't want to read.

I have incest ships, but they're fictional only. Part of the reason I enjoy those pairings is because there's usually mutual angst over the fact that they've fallen in love, and people struggling with their feelings and that's very much my jam.

I am not delusional enough to think that it works like that in REAL LIFE though. What the hell. Incest is usually a case of abuse, either overtly or inherently because of the power dynamics. You think it's beautiful in real life????? No anon. Just no.
