189. Awww. Bobby Hill is one of my favorite characters on TV and mostly for the reasons you've named. I'd totally hang out with that kid if he were real.

God you people are really creepily fascinated with Stein, aren't you?

According to one of the secrets yesterday, they're mostly by the same person.

123. Me too. I bet he could have made a living out of it. Why'd they have to cure it?

144. Of the...uh, two of those couples I know of and ship, I totally agree, and find that it's true with my other ships too. This secret is truth.

146. I'm like that with that song, and also with O Holy Night.

151. Damn, what did lipliner ever do to her?

189. This is so adorable and true.

OH MY GOD I saw this years and years and YEARS ago (when I was supposed to be grounded fom TV!) and I'd completely forgotten what it was called. I don't even like anime, but this collection was absolutely gorgeous.

Re: 145

[identity profile] tenshihitomi.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed! I have a problem getting some people into it, as it's pretty much an art film. But most have been very receptive.

[identity profile] freakyfanboy.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
102. Funimation's dubs are generally pretty good, I think. At least in the last years.

142. I've read some American comic books. I just don't really like the mainstream stuff. Their music is different, but I don't think it's bad...I just think all countries has good stuff and bad stuff.

145. Man, I've been dying to see that but I still haven't had a chance.

164. Tilda Swinton is so quirky-looking and gorgeous. Really, I don't get people that say even women are attracted to, say, Angelina Jolie--I'm not. But the "odder" beauties like Tilda Swinton and Helena Bonham Carter? Those I get.

174. Man, I want to play that game online, but I'm a girl AND I suck at shooters...

145.

[identity profile] tenshihitomi.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't recommend it highly enough. It's a bit hard to find, but it's worth it!

134. I am so sorry for your loss. I'm in archaelogy and if my advisor passed away naturally, much less was murdered, I would grieve more than I would for someone in my own family. :|

147. ...not gonna lie, I spend waaaay too much time fantasizing about him as well. Also, I am pretty sure this is waaaaay more common than anyone realizes. Not just having a fantasy life, but one specifically about 10 or Tennant. What is it about him?

Re: 134, 147

(Anonymous) 2009-01-16 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
147: He is just so unfairly adorable. I was never someone who really got much of crushes on real people but he's embedded himself in my brain and into my fantasies. I love the hair. You add that and an accent and I almost feel helpless against his charisma.

109. Nah, I dunno. I'll sound cliche, but I thought if he had chemistry with anyone like that, it was the brief interaction with Arcee, and even then not much. I see them as just being classic "old friends."

Also...Omega looks like he has a funny smiley face on him there. OuO

132. I picked up a trade of Countdown and read through it at the store. Not even the beginning, but after Trickster was dead. I still got that vibe (but then, honestly, most of Flash's villians give me that vibe anyway). But I thought it was just heartbreakingly sweet (and a little crazy-sad) how Piper kept talking to "James."
I'd want it to be real.

142. Eh.
[trans: "troll is not good at trolling"]

144. Not the point, but I still don't understand how anyone ships Stabler and Benson.

149. Yeah, me too.

178. Well, I'd hit it too (darn, red hair, freckles, and glasses--well, he's supposed to have them), but I'd love to be best friends--providing he let me take the air of of his sails once in a while. But I do love Percy.
Also, love CR.

189. I love Bobby! He's just so darn cute and sweet. Gets things wrong a lot, but it seems lik his goal in life is just to make other people happy. Plus, he wants to be a comedian, and the fact that he turned out so blissfully tolerant in a freaking small Southern town. I heart him.

113. In the Bible, "bondage" referred to slavery - you know, like Moses, so you could pull it off without pissing anyone off. (I think Moses had a kind of unrequired hot thing going with the Pharoah's wife/sister, too, didn't he?)

[identity profile] antony-james-k.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 12:43 am (UTC)(link)

124. YOU ARE SO NOT ALONE! SECRET SHOULD NOT BE SECRET!

178. I know he was an ass, but after the war he'd be all awesome. I'd hit it, or be best friends. Either one. He's adorable ^_^

189. Bobby is awesome. He's a bit slow sometimes but he'll grow up to be a great person.

I've thought way too much about this. I feel you.

[identity profile] raven-scarlett.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
104. That's kind of a lotta awesome.

164. She makes me obscenely happy.

174. I don't know how I'd get on with him, but word on the Percy love <3. I'm always happy when characters I gave the benefit of the doubt to do something that made my trust worth it (like Edmund Pevensie, too). I'm usually the one in my social circle defending the rogue siblings.

[identity profile] beandelphiki.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
106. ME TOO. My reaction exactly - thinking how awful I'd feel if it were my photo, and they didn't HAVE to publish that, did they?!

...Right up until you hit the point where you adore that celeb so much that they could have noodles hanging from their mouth, sauce on their face, and their eyes rolled back into their skull so you can see the whites of their eyeballs, and you still think they look like a MILLION bucks.

Or maybe that's just me. Do everybody else's photo collections get less and less picky over time?

123. Again, me too. Would LOVE to know.

127. No, no oops! So nobody made it quite as accessible for you before. This (whatever it is) made you appreciate it more. How is that a bad thing?

People sometimes criticize when you learn more about a story's plot/themes/characters/whatever from something other than the original. Those people are twits. There would be no point to critical analysis if everyone got the exact same thing out of the source material.

And if you haven't before been given the skills to completely master the source material on the first go-round, there's nothing that says you can't supplement your understanding with something else and then go back to the source for a new look.

Yeah, I'm taking this SRSLY. I mean, that's why there's children's versions of the classics. You can follow the more complex source material later on if you learn the basic gist of the story early. It's rehearsal for the real thing. Rehearsal is NEVER a bad thing.

134. That's TERRIBLE. I'm genuinely sorry.

138. I can kinda sympathize. When actors I like have medical issues I get really nervous about breaking news about them.

Personally, I stopped watching House (at least for a while) because his character means so much to me that watching him be hurt over and over was starting to make me mildly depressed on a day-to-day basis. If something happened to his character, I can't even describe how upset I'd be.

147. I recall reading a study done a few years ago that showed that our fantasies about celebrities (within reason) have the same emotional benefits as children's imaginary friends. It kinda made me feel dorky to hear that - oh great, I still have imaginary friends!...but then, so does EVERYBODY else.

Including (hilariously), most smaller celebrities. Which is obvious if you read enough interviews and see people admit to their own fantasies about people THEY consider celebrities.

(I sometimes wonder if a small part of the reason why big, big celebrities have this tendency to go STARK RAVING NUTS when they hit it really big is that they no longer have that outlet. Really, who is Tom Cruise gonna fantasize about?)

186. I'm...honestly confused by this secret. Er, what?

"So much more worthy of praise," in what way, exactly? I mean, your fellow fans aren't comparing this celeb to each other, are they? "Wow, [friendperson], you're just so uncool compared to [David Tennant/one of those SPN boys/Hugh Laurie/Launchpad]." I'm doubting it, because then they wouldn't be nice, right?

So why does that one person get so much praise? I don't know, maybe because they DID something that MEANT something to lots and lots and lots of people...?

If your friends are worthy of praise, then people will praise them! Probably not so many, but that's because they haven't reached so many people. Math. Not a calculation of WORTH, just NUMBERS.

Not!fandom Um, just quit lj if you hate it that damn much.

144. Too bad this is a secret. I'd read your fic. :)
147. Who can blame you? At least you picked a great object for your fantasies. ...And sorry about the long-distance thing. (Insensitive commenter is insensitive)
173. Um...is there such a thing? I think most places just have subscriptions to a service, like...Sirius Business. (lololol)
189. In a lot of ways, Bobby is the best character on that show.

113. I'd read it!

120. OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU. AND THE UNCLE DAVE ONE. AND THE ONE WHERE THEY TAKE THEIR SHIRTS OFF. LOL, if you couldn't tell, you're not alone. And don't worry, the shame goes away after a year or so. XD

133. Lawl. ;D

144. I do not get all the Kate hate, for real - I love her. AND LIZ. But I've never seen anyone bitching about her. But House and Jack and Jack do *nothing* for you?

171. Awww! I never cry watching movies, but that scene where she's over at his apartment and watches the tape? I cry every time. XD He is so, so amazing.

180- THIS.

185-As someone who isn't American, I cannot get offended over 9/11.

But I do joke over 7/7 -shrug- One of my friends had to do a poem on London for homework, one of the first things put in was 'after being blown to smithereens on the glorious public transport'. Nobody died from hearing this 8D I'd personally -adore- a comic featuring some nation sneaking into the Underground and catching old Arthur unaware.

Is that to say I think less of the lives lost? No. There is a time for serious business, and a time for general silliness. I'm disgusted at the event, and that it could have happened, but I can still joke about it. Unless of course, I'm allowed to get all butt hurt whenever a French person brings up 1066?

There's a difference between individual political opinion cartoons used to illustrate a point (as with the one you linked that illustrates, quite literally, the horrific difference between the numbers of lives lost on the initial attack on 9/11 and he subsequent retaliation in Afghanistan and Iraq with an image of the burning WTC as a pictographal representation of a set number) and a comic ignoring any point in favor of forcing a continuity and story out of random historical events that have been cherry-picked to suit the author's needs.

In the former, characters and props are symbolic representations of something specific (ideas, events, numbers, etc.). In the latter, characters and props are stereotypes serving only to generalize and mute the impact of the subject upon which it is based.
