Though I'm not too big into manga now, I gotta say there are some AWESOME Japanese comics out there that aren't all shonen shit (i.e. BLEACH or NARUTO or REBORN) and dramatic fluff (i.e. every shoujo on the planet). If you haven't read Monster, I don't think you can actually make the statement that all Japanese manga is crap. The music is, on the whole, much crappier though, I agree. XD Japanese boy bands who all look alike and sound terrible, visual kei, and anime/manga musicals sung by look-alikes who really have no business with a microphone...just some of the things I avoid like the plague.

174. I understand exactly where you're coming from. I think the weirdest part about it isn't the annoying males who make fun of us and our little boy voices, but the FEMALES who seem to hate us simply for being female. I just don't understand why most other gamer girls are such assholes. The nice ones are out there and I have found them, but they are so few and far between compared to the bitches. Obviously they're just feeling threatened and are taking out their aggression on what they see as the damper to their attention whoring, but goddamn if they don't ruin the game sometimes.

Plus, it takes me longer to earn the money to buy one than it does to read one. 144. You seem to be conflating "not sexist" with "Kinsey 3 or higher". Yes, most women are more interested in male characters in terms of shipping and pairing and porn. The reverse is true in male dominated fandom. There is a reason some very heterosexual men prefer fake-lesbian porn and some very heterosexual women prefer yaoi. This does not make them horrible sexists. The reasons for this should not be a mystery and making moral judgements about them is useless.

185. One of my closer friends is a graduate student in Byzantine history and she writes awesome Hetalia fic set in the past, distant and recent. I have never read the manga and it doesn't grab me, but I think anything (including a manga about 9/11) can be done well. The problem with recent events is that they are too easy to do BADLY. World War II and the Holocaust have been used as the backdrop for hundreds and thousands of novels and movies. Really, you can write about them. If it's done badly, then of course it's likely to be offensive. But it's not impossible to do it well. And some people need to write about things like WWII and 9/11, too.

I'm kinda leaning towards Ishida/orihime myself. They had such chemistry in the soul society arc, but since then, they have little to no interaction and Tite Kubo is practically ignoring Rukia for all the secondary characters (at least he was the last time I read..); so the only focus I even see is Orihime/Ichigo at the moment in terms of canon.

I like the Ichigo/Orihime/Rukia love triangle sometimes, but I wish Ishida had a more dominant role other than just being the extremely smart one.. because he is probably my favorite character.
