I feel like the vast majority of us have had our faves—due to bad writing—do things in canon that are Not Okay, and have had to figure out how to respond to that. It's fiction, so I think we can respond however we want. Headcanon that the character never did said bad thing? Fine. Headcanon somewhat mitigating circumstances that make the bad thing more forgivable? Fine. Accept canon and stop liking the character? Fine. Accept canon and like the character anyway because it's just fiction so it doesn't really matter? Fine.

Look. I don’t care about the Steve/Diana thing. The dude wasn’t there; she was having sex with Steve. If the genders were reversed I would feel the exact same way. If someone had sex in my body while I wasn’t in it, I would feel the exact same way. It’s not a scenario that exists in real life, so everyone is bound to have different takes on it. There is no one correct take, because there is no established legal or ethical precedent for what you can and can’t do when you find yourself occupying a body that isn’t the one you were born in.

But some of those examples you’re citing are honestly pretty clear-cut.

Honestly, I've been using "sexual abuse" rather than rape for a lot of this stuff. I've had too many people argue at me at how some painful sexual experiences were not really rape due to this or that technicality, even though appeasement and survival sex can really fuck you up.

So the compromise is that I'll stop calling these situations rape, but I'll still call them ethically harmful and likely abusive.
