so dehydrated but getting crap done anyway because I don't have much choice. I really wish my body was okay with swallowing fluids.

I feel you on the job hunting, nonny. Fingers crossed that we can both find jobs soon.

I'm worried about my dog. I took him to the vet for his annual shots and the vet said his lymph nodes were swollen. She didn't have a definitive answer for why and just said to bring him back if they're still swollen after three days, but I'm super worried it's gonna be something bad and/or something expensive to cure.

Sorry, nonny. Hope you get some great offers soon.

The place I work in is practically a greenhouse, and I always feel overheated there. I have an entirely non-desk job that keeps my hands busy, so my fan options are limited. I found a small fan I could wear around my neck but it doesn’t blow strongly enough to help. And I’ve recently learned that more than one of my meds (which I can’t work without) interferes with my body’s heat regulation. So I guess the answer is “hot”. My immediate supervisors sympathize, but they can’t do anything; the building is town property and the people at town hall would never tweak the temperature inside one public building for the comfort of one bottom-rung employee. At least nobody has a problem with me drinking water constantly on the job. I keep the bottle in the staff freezer overnight.

I totally feel you on the job hunt. It took me 5 years after graduating law school to finally find a job. I really hope you find something soon and that it is a good job.

Pretty good! I applied for a promotion at work at a different store and I'm a little scared about having done so. But all in all, it's been a pretty rad day.

Opinions on DVDs/Blu-rays/Hard-copies of media?

(Anonymous) 2021-07-14 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you still buy them or no longer have a need for them?
Do you have a favorite one that you intend to hold on to or have you ever been disappointed by the content on it? (ie: like buying a dvd not seeing the movie/show before?)
Do you have something like a VHS tape as a form of merch or is streaming just more convenient by comparison?

I've not bought physical media in at least two years. Honestly, I probably won't buy anymore because I don't watch the ones I do have. If I want to watch The Lion King, I'll just use the Disney Plus account my sister has.

However, I do miss special features. Especially gag reels.

I don't really buy dvds any more, but I have a handful of movies and an anime collection from before 2016 with the exception of two series I got as a Christmas present since then.
I have to admit, as annoying as it can be when it takes up space - it's disappointing when you can't find a particular movie or your streaming service just gets rid of it without any warning; which is the main appeal of owning a copy of anything you'd like to rewatch again in the future.

I have a nice DVD library of lots of my favorite TV shows and movies that I would never want to give up.

I don't buy new physical media anymore but I have saved the old ones for their extra material, like Futurama DVDs for the commentaries and Lord of the Rings extended set for all the bts stuff.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-14 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've kept all the stuff I bought before but when it comes to adding new stuff I'm a lot pickier. There's only been one show I've liked enough to buy in the last few years and there's only a handful of music artists whose physical work I still buy.

When it comes to video games, though, I buy the physical copy. IDEK. I just do.

I think I have like... 500ish discs between movies and TV series. With the advent of streaming I've definitely been pickier adding to my collection (usually DW or other stuff where I can't watch without subscribing to a whole new channel).

I also still buy CDs for imports and stuff (j-rock etc) that don't show up on Spotify or Apple Music.

Re: Opinions on DVDs/Blu-rays/Hard-copies of media?

(Anonymous) 2021-07-14 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I still buy DVDs, yeah, because I like having physical copies of shows I like. Sometimes streaming sites will pull shows, or they'll stop airing the reruns on some channel, or whatever. So if that happens, well, at least now I have the DVDs there for me to watch anytime I want.

I have a bit of a hard time getting used to streaming. I still like watching stuff on a regular TV channel, with a set time and a set schedule, and I find it easier to do rewatches that way, too. I can just go into the DVR and watch back any episodes I saved, I don't have to go to a site and sign in and go to this page and whatnot to find the show and everything, and I don't have to sign up for anything just to watch something. I'll do streaming if a show I like is exclusively on a streaming service and I really want to watch it, but if I can watch the show on a TV network, I will, and I prefer it that way.

I don't have a ton, but I do still buy DVDs and Blu-Rays because I don't want to subscribe to all the streaming services, and I can never keep track of what movies are on each service. (Like, if I wanted to watch Amelie right now, where is it? Hulu? Netflix? Amazon? IDK, man.)

[personal profile] pantswarrior 2021-07-14 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I would never buy a non-hard copy of anything unless it was the only option, honestly. Seen too many people get burned when something gets removed from a service, or their console/computer died, or their account got hacked. If there's any chance of me seeing a movie/playing a game more than once, I want to make sure I will be able to access it even years down the road. I might stream something once to see if it's something I want to buy, if the fee is lower than buying a hard copy.

Re: Opinions on DVDs/Blu-rays/Hard-copies of media?

(Anonymous) 2021-07-15 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I absolutely still buy DvD's of media I love or I know I'll want to rewatch so I can do so whenever I want. Streaming services are fine for me to watch something once or the first time, but I don't rely on them to keep the shows/movies on their service so I'll always buy a physical copy if I know I want to watch it many times again in the future.

Re: Opinions on DVDs/Blu-rays/Hard-copies of media?

(Anonymous) 2021-07-15 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I don't buy them unless it's a show or movie that I love enough that I know I'll want to watch it multiple times. 99% of the stuff I watch, I watch once and that's it. I don't tend to come back to things unless I really, really love them because I would rather put my media time into watching new things that I haven't seen yet.

I've bought exactly two things on DVD in the past five years. One of those was a TV show that I've watched four times already so I knew it was worth it to purchase, and the other was a movie that I wanted the DVD of for all of the bonus features that were included. Aside from that? Streaming all the way.
