What actors do you think are overrated? Who do you think are underrated and should get more love?

So, so overrated. I've only liked him in one thing: Edge of Tomorrow. And that was because watching him die so many times first was cathartic and allowed me to relax and get into watching him. Usually I hate him.

I would have sat in rapture listening to Andreas Katsulas read the phonebook. It was a sad day for the acting world when he passed away.

Overrated? Probably not the worst take in the world, but I would be super grateful is both Depp and Heard crawled away and were never seen again.

And good god yes to the second one. At this point I hate both of them.

One I was just thinking about the other day - Ruby Rose - all the characters I can think of that she's played are basically the same.

And I admit this can come down more to being type casted but... I don't feel like she really makes them that different. Feels more like they are each other's AU variant.

I feel this way about Vin Diesel. I like some of his movies. But I don't think he's a great actor, just that some roles are written so he fits them well. Also feel this way about Tom Holland.

I also feel this way about some beloved, classic actors like George Clooney, Christopher Walken, Samuel L. Jackson, Harrison Ford, Robert De Niro, Sean Connery, and Jack Nicholson.

Overrated: Robert Downey Jr. and Martin Freeman, for similar reasons. They both play certain types really well and I actually do enjoy some of their roles because they're good at that type. But IMO, typecasting is an issue for both and a lot of their roles feel rather samey to me. Likeable, mostly. But samey.

I 100% agree about Martin Freeman. I think it's more complicated with RDJ. He does get typecast. But I think the difference between RDJ and Freeman is that Freeman gets typecast because he has one thing he's really good at whereas I think RDJ falls into it by default. He does have range and he can be really good playing a wide range of roles. But people are willing to pay him a buttload of money to do schtick in blockbusters so that's what he ends up doing.

Oh agreed so hard. Like you I find their roles perfectly enjoyable but they are all the same type of character and they overshadow a lot other actors who do just as good jobs. It's not their fault and I don't hate them for it, it's just how I see it as well.

I miss when Kate Lonergan was an active actor. She seems to be enjoying retirement and running her florist, but I still think she is wasting her talent. She was a great kid's tv actor, and while that isn't the most prestige niche I feel it is a difficult one to nail. Same with Tony Robinson, I loved his kids tv roles (Fat Tulip's Garden, and also his reading of The Odyssey for Children) and while I like his documentary stuff, I don't think he's as good as a presenter as he was as an actor.

I've been underwhelmed by Jennifer Lawrence in most things. She's perfectly fine, but not excellent, IMO.

For underrated, the first one I thought of was Eva Green. She's a bit of a cult favorite at this point, and it's not like she isn't successful, but I don't feel like she's gotten the amount of recognition she deserves.

Underrated: Tatiana Maslany, Alison Pill, Samantha Sloyan, Krysten Ritter, Steven Ogg, and Kit Harington (he's been great in every role except the one he's best known for)
Overrated: Alexis Bledel, Zooey Deschanel, and Jeff Daniels

I just don’t get Gary Oldman. I’ve been told he’s a great actor and maybe that’s true, but I generally don’t find him affecting, entertaining, or endearing.

Olivia Wilde is without question the worst actress I've ever seen in my life. And I'm a big MST3K fan so I've seen fucktons of bad acting.

I'm just tired of Timothee Chalamet, though I think that's overused more than overrated?
