This is my problem. I don't want to spend forever grinding in a game, but by the same token, if the game is too easy then I get bored with it and quit. I want a game that's challenging but that doesn't require a ton of grinding to make progress.

I recently had a long term house-guest turn into a medium term roommate so we needed to get another bed. Like a real bed with a real mattress and everything. I don't have a truck and I hate spending money so my plan was to order a mattress online.

That's right, I was finally up for a fucking Casper. Or a purple mattress. Or whatever ones they have now.

Look, they've been advertised for YEARS and YEARS and it's not like I'm going to impulse buy a wholeass mattress. And this is the first one I've really needed to buy. So I set out to check out all the mattress stores online and all the coupon options and all the advertisements and all the websites.

And then I bought one from Costco.

I'm the one who posted a couple weeks ago about losing my job. I applied for several things, and got a call a couple days later about one of them. I did an initial interview with the HR lady, which seemed to go pretty well, then she wanted to schedule a conference call with the big bosses (who live out of state, where the company's headquarters are) so they could interview me.

We scheduled a day and time last week, and...I never heard from them. After double checking phone numbers/time zones and making sure I had the right info, I emailed the lady who was coordinating it all to see if she wanted to reschedule. I didn't hear from her that day or the next day, so I decided to just move on and keep applying for other stuff. After several days without hearing from her, I started to kind of get annoyed because like, okay, maybe they hired someone else, but at least have the decency to let me know.

Today my cousin's coworker's brother, who owns a business, came into their work to borrow something from his brother, and happened to mention that he's hiring for his company. She told him about me, and he apparently said that I sound perfect for the position and to tell me to email him. As soon as she told me, I got super excited because it basically sounds like my dream job. I emailed him right away, but it was after 6 pm by that point so I didn't really expect to hear anything tonight. I'm really hoping to hear from him tomorrow, though.

Anyway, right after that, I notice I have an email from the lady at the other company saying she "just forgot", not even apologizing or anything, and asking me to let her know when I'm available to reschedule.

Part of me is thinking of just completely ignoring it altogether because it took her over a week to even respond to me at all, and she didn't even apologize. Especially because I wasn't super interested in that job to begin with (but I need a job and was applying for everything I seemed qualified for), and even less so now that there's the option of this other one, which seems perfect for me. But if for some reason this one doesn't work out, at least that one would be something. But I don't want to email her until I hear from this guy, hopefully tomorrow. Part of me is like "meh, I'm not gonna worry about it, she took over a week to respond to me, it can wait" but that's also not the kind of person I am and I don't feel right about not getting back to her right away. But again...I'd much prefer the other job if it can work out so I don't want to email her until I hear from the owner of this other company.

I don't know, what would you guys do?

Godzilla '98 is pure cheese and not good, but I can watch it anytime, from start to finish with no problem.

Godzilla 2014 is objectively a better film, but it can be a chore to sit through, and when I try, I want to skip to the good parts more often than not.

SPOILERS IN THIS COMMENT

I read a bunch of MHA fic after only getting through like a season of the anime. Have finished what's aired of the anime at this point but haven't watched the movies or read the manga and don't intend to.

My read on the fandom:

A lot of the really big fics were written before the war arc so don't take that into account anyway. As a result it's a mishmash of different fan interpretations at different points in the narrative. Frankly, if you're familiar with the basic plot and the core cast I don't think it's necessary to consume the canon to enjoy the fandom.

My read on the canon based only on the anime:

Endeavour was that abusive, but the narrative has chosen to redeem him through his future actions without retconning his past. Make of that what you will.

Bakugo has been redeemed by the narrative by becoming Izuku's friend and supporter (and, you know, was a young teenager when he was a bully so there is lot more leeway with redeeming him). He definitely needs therapy though. But basically the fics where he is mellower as an adult are consistent with his canon characterisation, if you assume he recognises his issues and works on them.

I have never understood the fandom's obsession with Dabi so I have no comment there. But also narratively he's still a psychopath so ???

Shigaraki is one of the most boring villains of all time and I refuse to read fic about him, lol.

Hawks is narratively a chill, cool competent guy who is also a great spy. And also canonically a simp for Endeavour in the same way Izuku is a simp for All Might, which is hilarious. Not actually a playboy in the narrative but the leap isn't that far tbh.

All Might isn't written as naive or sheepish as far as my reading? Just a victim of the circumstances created by the power vacuum of him giving up his powers, which he didn't really have a choice over. But there might be more plot I've not seen.

In conclusion: consuming more of the canon probably won't change your fandom reading habits, so don't worry too much about it.

Jedis? Count me in. I don't even like Star Wars that much but put my favs in space and give some of them the Force and I'm happy.

Wizarding World? Count me in if -and only IF- adult characters aren't aged down to go to magic middle school because I'm done with school AUs.

Westeros? Fuck me up let's do this.

Golarion? Faerun? Discworld? AtLA? Middle Earth? I'm here. for. it!

And then the generic ones: Regency-ish AUs, post apocalypse AUs, wild west AUs, Mythology AUs, Medieval AUs, Prohibition AUs, I'm noticing a trend here. I like everything except modern day AUs. Huh.

Yeah exactly.

I notice this especially in strategy games and RPGs. In the easy modes, you can just beat everything with barely any effort. On the other hand, in hard modes, it's like the AI is telepathically divining exactly what you want to do and specifically berserking their way to kill all of your guys as quickly as possible. Or there's a bunch of completely arbitrary challenges the game puts in your way to handcuff you.

It's very hard to find a balance! It's very hard to have a level of challenge that's fun without being grindy *and* that remains fun through the course of a whole game.

Rather than naive, I'd say All Might is out of his depth. He's good at being a hero, but he's not sure how to shift away and be something else instead. (He did get himself a copy of a Teaching for Dummies book.)

tbf, if this was during COVID, that was most likely because air shipping was quite literally shut down for quite a while.

IME this kind of thing happens all the time in jobhunting and it is *infuriating*. Companies will absolutely just ghost you with no explanation, and then still expect you to respond to everything ASAP. It's terrible.

However with that said - my experience is also that there's no such thing as a sure thing in jobhunting. So, my advice would be to respond to the rude awful lady even though she's rude and awful and you don't really want the job, just in case. If you need a way to pay the bills, you need a way to pay the bills. The fact that you're applying for other jobs doesn't have to enter the conversation at all. If you end up getting the other job, you can always just tell the lady "sorry, I've taken an offer elsewhere and I'm no longer interested in this position." After all they can hardly complain about you being rude given how they've already treated you.

I don't see it as "shilling", maybe because the ones I watch aren't pushy about it (I only watch a couple and they literally say things along the lines of "this thing is cool, and if you want to buy it, you can use my code, but if you want to use someone else's code, or if you don't want to buy it at all, that's cool too").

I've never bought anything just because I saw a YouTuber advertise it, but I've definitely used their codes to get a discount on things I was already going to buy. Saving money is always nice.

Exactly, and that's not what I want. Not wanting to have to spend two hours leveling up before I can even hope to go up against the next boss doesn't mean I want that boss to be easy when I do fight it, I would just prefer not to have to put in that two hours of grinding first.

What ifs - if this thing never happened how would it change. And fandom mash ups. But for some reason I loathe daemons.
Actually I don't really like AU's because I am mostly in fandoms for a setting to start with.
