Jealous. I work in an industry that was deemed essential and I never got to quarantine. No time off, just increased workload while the rest of the world complained (or bragged, depending on the individual) about being stuck at home.

Same in a way, but because I feel I was the only one that didn't take full advantage of being expected to be at home. But also, yeah, no thanks for the worst of it.

I missed the social distancing. I had to work (essential) but the usual crowding where I worked was cut way back.

This is something I actually heard from a close friend, and that tragically, I can understand. Driving to work, being stuck somewhere out of your comfort zone and into a place to behave, and then driving back exhausted, it's not a pleasant life for a lot of people.

Some works have chosen to keep working remotely out of comfort (mine included), but it speaks something when introverts turn out to be the healthiest during the lockdown, while everyone else is so desperate to get back to normal, they'd rather go through those same soul-draining policies, over finding a viable alternative.

I lucked out. After a few months WFH my company decided we might as well keep doing that. We can go in if we want, we can be at home if we want, they don't care so long as the work gets done.

I get it, anon. And some of the biggest, bitterest fights I've seen over at Hacker News have been between managers who don't get to feel powerful enough when they can't call in-person meetings, and their employees being like "we hate that and will not waste our time on that useless crap just because you're not afraid of contagion anymore!!"

Also, the media was wailing a lot about children, but all I could think was "ah. You mean all those kids who aren't being humiliated, bullied, assaulted, and sexually molested in school? Yeah. I can really see why the world NEEDS to go back to 'normal' ..."

Most of the global pain was government collusion mixed with corporate greed, IMO. Half my family lives in one of the countries that couldn't afford to lockdown, buy zillions of vaccines, etc. and our death toll from the disease was negligible in comparison.

I feel you, OP! It was the best year of my life. And I feel so guilty saying that because my mother died of Covid. But there’s no denying that the changes to society as a result of the pandemic have been so good for me. WFH jobs are much easier to find (it was basically just scam jobs pre 2020) and salaries went up in many fields.

I wish fandom would learn it. Every list of recs for things with villain protagonist has maybe one that's actually a villain (rather than an antihero or flat-out hero with some unpleasant traits) if I'm lucky.
