I second screen so I prefer dubs.

I actually like both depending on the quality of the voice acting. Typically that means I'd sooner gravitate towards subs cause Japanese VAs are overall better, but if the universe is set in an English setting or if the dubs kick it out of the park then I'd prefer that.

Fma/Rurouni kenshin I actually prefer the dubs because the Mc sounds in the subs sound too feminine to me.

Gits is another one where it's actually a toss up. Both sub and dub are good.

The live action has finally motivated me to read the manga after stopping at the Arlong Park arc over a decade and a half ago (ha! right where the LA ended), but man, yeah, I do not miss the outdated and sexiest part of it.

I appreciate the LA for removing some of that nonsense (like I noticed Lady Aldiva was not treated as "ugly" because she was fat in the LA, for example, so good on them), including Sanji's creepy perverted behavior.

If I have to work on something while I'm watching, I need a dub. I still want subtitles on no matter what language bc sometimes I have to back up and read the words bc my audio processing is for shit. So I see both as important.

I don't think anyone's saying he's "just" the pervert-trope, but rather that the annoying and outdated pervert trope is hard to put up with, and makes people less likely to get to the parts you're talking about, where Sanji's character shines. As someone with several faves who fell into that category, I feel that.

However, I'm not gonna complain when an adaptation removes that shitty part and keeps the rest, allowing more people to see the parts I love.

Anyone plays tabletop games?

Omg, this. If the mouth movements aren't lining up, I can't see ANYTHING ELSE and i just have to opt out. I have deleted a few movies in my time because nothing I did fixed the screwed up vocal track, and I just...could not.

I don't have any prejudice, I just find dubbed stuff so annoying and off-putting, it *is* a little baffling.
But my brother can't do subs, as he says he reads too slowly and half the time the subs are gone before he's done, so.... There is that.

I imagine anyone with a reading issue would prefer dubs, and that's all good. It's just too bad they're mostly so awful.

News about Mitch McConnel gets clicks. We’re all hoping to read that he’s died. I’d be perfectly happy with him just leaving office but he’s made it clear he won’t do that. Elected positions really need to stop being a lifetime career even decades past retirement age.

I remember the Sherlock BBC wars as the absolute worst of this - the people who liked John topping declared that the other way around was pedophilia because John was "child coded". Yes, really. This was important enough to attack real life abuse survivors in person.

I have never read the manga because that guy with the long nose is genuinely disgusting. Like, I cannot stand to look at him and was relieved he was covered up in this secret. I rarely have this kind of visceral reaction to any kind of comics art (and usually it's when it's meant to be disgusting) so I have no idea why this guy repulses me so much but he does.

I have a big thing for stronger/more physically intimidating characters (think the brawn side of the classic brains/brawns ship) bottoming, but it's mostly because I think the contrast between being a hulking warrior who can destroy you in combat and being super subby in bed is really appealing to me. Literally just very base level porn appeal to me lmao

I have very hard-set preferences on who tops and who bottoms, I even admit that character personality plays on the preference. But it's so obviously a personal preference/id thing that people who fight over it still look stupid.

Someone who has the opposite preference to me can't help it just as I can't help it.
