Went on a walk this morning and a dog started following me. Posted her on FB then walked around with it for an hour. Found her home and went home to take a nap! Got more work on my balloon dog done. Now on line 100 of 183.

Ugh acid reflux is the awful, I'm sorry.

Today is a pretty shitty anniversary and I thought I was doing okay but the misery just hit me all at once. I'm tempted just to go to bed and try again tomorrow.

I took a 4 hour nap, so doing okay. Also having homemade turkey noodle soup for dinner in an hour. And just about to watch the Monk movie.

Yay acid reflux club! Just took some medication myself.
I also have a migraine because of the change in weather where I live. And I got an order for a cute pin that was supposed to be a gift for a friend cancelled because the person running the shop apparently had an accident. But I got a refund so all is well.
Dread for Christmas is still kinda in the back of my mind but I'm doing my best to ignore it.

I’m busy and stressed, but also excited because I got a kudos on AO3. That’s the second one this year. I’ll never understand people who don’t like kudos, don’t think they’re enough, turn off notifications for them…it’s like rich people talking about money.

Ugh, sorry, that sounds not fun. I did some laundry, read a book, went for a walk... I didn't get groceries or put my laundry away but that's what tomorrow's for, except I also have other stuff to do tomorrow, because I'm a well-practiced procrastinator.

I got in around the very beginning of the 2000s after the first X-men movie came out alongside X-Men Evolution. I use to go onto a fan forum for the X-Men that lead me to places like Livejournal, ffnet and Angelfire fansites/shrines (for the latter I use to go onto a Rouge shrine site to listen to all the mp3s playing in the background like Limp Bizkit's My Way and a midi file of the Casper movie soundtrack).

I got into fandom with DBZ so probably early 2000s. I don't really have a favorite. Maybe when MCU and SPN was super popular?

High School, which was mid-90s for me. The internet was brand new at our high school and a friend and I decided to use it to look up comic book stuff. I remember stumbling upon fanfic and being fascinated. Then I remember discovering yahoo groups/mailing lists and searching for specific ones for comics and tv shows I was into.

I think early 2000s was my favorite era. You had social spaces and chats but it wasn't all consuming like it became. I loved all the separate spaces - I had topic specific forums I was in, individual websites I'd follow or submit to, and LJ was just perfect for me.

Favorite fandom era was probably 2010s tumblr fandom. I got into fandom in the mid-90s.

Around '94. I was in middle school, I had just gotten into The Vampire Chronicles, and my mom bought our first ever computer because I had gotten into the "gifted" classes and she thought I'd be disadvantaged with just a typewriter because basically all the other "gifted" kids were from rich families. Got the internet (which came in the mail in those days), went looking for people to talk with about my thoughts about Armand and Daniel, found slash, never looked back.

LJ era was definitely the best.

I got into fandom in the mid 90s. It started with meta and role playing with my friends in 94, then we all geeked out as each family got a computer and AOL starting in 96 or so.
My favorite era was 2006-2010 on LJ. I miss the structure of fandom, being able to separate RL from fandom and carve out corners in fandom, but still blend things somewhat. Now it feels like everything is all or nothing :/

I was in fandoms of one, although pre-teen me didn't think about it that way, before I had internet access, but I didn't get access to the internet and online fandom until 1995.

Physical Newspapers

Do you, or have you ever, gotten a physical newspaper delivery service? I remember growing up we got the paper every day and I was recently thinking it wouod be fun to get one and have it as a new breakfast/morning routine. Then I went looking and it's $25/mos just for the Sunday paper! Too rich for me at this point in time.

What great deals have you gotten recently?

I found a Schwinn IC4 on marketplace for only $250. And it was only an hour drive away! These are $1,000 new and I've not seen it under $700 new. It is in near perfect condition. The guy selling it is moving so didn't have space for it. Didn't get murdered buying it and it fits nicely in the corner of my living room.

Non-fandom confessions.

My mother passed away quite unexpectedly a few years ago, and while our relationship wasn't the best, I feel her absence most around the holidays. What I don't miss? Her habit of telling embarrassing stories about my childhood. Understand, she doesn't do this out of spite, she finds them genuinely funny even though they usually involve painful and sometimes public humiliation that I found absolutely mortifying as a kid and still dislike thinking about as an adult. She was never a very jovial person, but telling these stories quite frequently made her laugh so hard she cried.

And I'm very glad that they died with her. I'll never have to hear or think about them again, because nobody else in my family cares enough to recount them or is rude enough to bring them up repeatedly in my presence. This gives me an immense feeling of satisfaction.
