This seems like a good place to comment on a general feeling I've been observing in fandom. Please don't take it as an attack or critiscism.

But I think people don't really enjoy fandom anymore. I think a lot of people feel like fandom has all these rules and that by breaking them or enjoying the wrong thing or enjoying it in the wrong way they need to hide it or even atone.

It's not that there are more joyless bullies in fandom these days, but I think a lot of us... sort of mentally yield to a presumed morality of the fandom worthies.

Like, in this case, I neither know nor care what who this person is or what they did... but ask yourself, what is materially different for autistic people if you openly or secretly like or hate this person? I think fandom could do with more encouragement to tell the people who are like "OMG YOU CAN'T SUPPORT X, DON'T YOU KNOW THEY THINK Y?!" to just just get fucked.

In before people tell me I'm wrong, and that actually supporting someone who thinks or supports bad things IS actually materially affecting the world and making it harder of marginalised blah blah blah.

I replied on the comment secret, but I'll say it again, I'm autistic nyself and enjoy plenty of her music, especially on LSD. It depends on the situation whether something an artist did will ruin their music for me, but I still listen to a lot of music by pretty awful people, when it comes to simply enjoying their songs on an artistic level, in my own playlists. People who did something you don't like can still make good art. I just don't care to look into all the details of celebrity scandals unless it's really horrible, and even then, I may stop supporting the artist or going to their shows or something but I'll often still enjoy their work when I hear it.

The only thing I would say to be cautious of is that if your teen actually doesn't care for her, it's good to keep it to yourself, and not make it a drama with them, because they're entitled to their opinion too, but I don't see how it makes you a bad parent to have your own music taste and enjoy Sia when they're not around.

Try not to be too hard on yourself Secret OP. We can't always consume things as ethically as possible. I think so long as you don't hold Sia up as some good person who's never made any mistakes or actively buying all her stuff and telling people you're a huge fan, you're not causing harm.

I'm nuerodivergent and I enjoy some Sia songs. There are probably even more songs she's written for other artists that I like too.

I try not to listen to anything with RKelly or PDiddy but they show up and some of the songs I still like. And they've both produced or written music for other artists as well.

I can see the "gross uncle" angle, but don't personally sub to that. I just haven't found Adam Sandler funny for years and I really, truly dislike Will Ferrell. (that second part made the 00s very difficult)

I can find them funny when they're deliberately playing into the gross/weird/childish angle and not playing characters that the movie tries to insist are lovable heroes when they're not and would be unbearable irl.

I found them funny when I was a teen and early 20s. I find them mostly annoying now. Adam Sandler is a little more "gross uncle" and Will Ferrell is more "calm the fuck down" kind of annoying.

1. I'm not a fan of most of them either, but I just try to ignore them and block people who are zealous about them being the only truth.

2. Wouldn't a fandom as big as Sonic have more "factions" with people who don't care about headcanon stuff? Surely not everyone is obsessed with politics and self-inserting onto characters.

3. At the same time, I can't even get mad about headcanoning a robot as trans. They technically don't have assigned genders/sexes so I think an agender-to-male headcanon (like Mettaton in Undertale) could be interesting in some contexts. *shrug*
