I don't think these two actually look much alike apart from how they've styled the hair? As long as we're not doing abominations like the live action Battle Angel Alita and her horrible distorted face, I'm all good.

Unless they edit the actors to fit the characters to any extreme degree, I have no problem with accurate casting at all. It's kinda the whole point when casting anything, the closer to the original is always best.
We don't want wildly uncharacteristic casting physically, because that only means they don't give a shit characteristically. They go hand in hand.
And while I know nothing of the casting of this movie specifically, I have no issue with who they cast either. My first thought when seeing the trailers were that they cast the character pretty well, especially compared to more cartoon to LA casting.

I genuinely need to know what cosplay you mean. Because, after 25+ years of cosplaying and congoing around other cosplyers, I have never actually seen a cosplayer even remotely approach looking like the character, accurate costume build aside. And that includes one dude who kinda-sorta looked a little like Ewan McGregor with a beard but also was very much not Ewan McGregor even at 20 feet. I don't think he's even with the Rebel Legion anymore.

Do people make amazingly accurate costumes instead of pandering to gross chinese bootlegs? Yes, they do. Do people know how to style wigs well? Absolutely yes. But aforementioned Ewan wannabe aside, I have never seen anyone so resemble a character as to be of an uncanny-valley level. The dudes who think they look like Robert Downey Jr are hilarously wrong.

I don't feel like the lice action/animation model comparison is all that eerily similar. HTTYD's style is cartoony enough that it would be difficult to pull that off.

But I can relate re: creepy cosplays. I don't know what it's like nowadays, but a decade or so ago I'd see people both Asian and not cosplaying anime characters, and they'd contour their noses to look very thin and pointy, their chins to look small and pointy as well, and the eye make-up was focused on making the eye look enormous, eyeliner and lenses and all, and it was very unpleasant to look at.

(I get a little bit of this feeling when I see those 'transformation' douyins, when you can see that the girl Before is pretty in her own way, but after applying make-up she looks like a generic prettyface because god forbid a woman with narrow eyes and a broader nose is considered beautiful and not corrected lol.)

I just got a record player in June and have already gotten annoyed about everything vinyl. Most pressings are super thin and prone to warp (most of my records were like this from the minute I unwrapped them). The many variants and the insane reselling. The music and audio snobs are way worse when it comes to records.

But so far the most annoying thing is that my player and records were birthday gifts. The player is perfect but in addition to the warped records (and that was a bummer for everyone; you wouldn’t want to gift someone something that was supposed to be very special and it turned out to be crap) there was also the problem of my list of albums I wanted was mostly poor quality or collector pressings, with nothing in between. So people gave me the standard versions expecting they’d be fine. And in reality I need to shovel over a giant pile of cash for the collector editions to get decent pressings.

Anyway, I know exactly what you mean and I’m sorry. I wish the industry were better.

You're kinda proving the point in and of itself by preferring one physical copy to another, as I assume both play equally fine, because for the same reason you were disappointed to get the black version, another would have preferred that instead of the coloured.

Still, I don't feel how this is dick measuring at all? I mean, they're producing multiple versions, one, for the money, but also because vinyles are very much showcasey, they've always done this as far as I know. Original versions will always be worth more, but where additional if not identical releases were once a thing, now we have both that and various art per release, per packaging. etc, etc.
It's consumerism by far, but not a dick measuring contest as for as I am aware?

Agreed. I love a story about a group of disparate misfits coming together and I always want to see more of their group dynamics. A sequel could have been a lot of fun, especially with the characters already established a little.
