I don't know shit about the Tekken character, but I thought that Zelda disguised herself as Sheik to escape detection by Ganondorf. Because plot-wise she still considers Zelda her true identity, it's not like she's FTM transgender or anything, so I don't see anything wrong with considering Sheik to be female. (honestly I didn't even realize I was supposed to think Sheik was male when I first saw Sheik when watching my friend play OoT. I thought Sheik was some ninja chick and then I had it spoiled that she was Zelda immediately.)

however, although you may not consider it canon, in the manga adaptation of OoT, zelda uses the triforce of wisdom to actually become male.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I'm just used to thinking of Sheik as a male, because of the 'he' pronouns in the game, the fact that he is male in the manga, etc. It was only confirmed when Brawl came out, really. People are allowed to like Sheik as a female -- it's "canon" after all, but people should also be able to prefer him as a male. I see more hate for fans for Male!Sheik than I do for Female!Sheik, oddly enough.

The only time a "he" pronoun is used in the game (IIRC) is by Ruto, and that's because Zelda had to keep herself in disguise. It's not as if she can just go "LOL HAI RUTO, I'MMA RESCUE YOU NOW, DUN TELL GANON LOL KTHXBAI." As is evident by the way Nabooru was captured after "revealing" herself, Ganondorf had spies everywhere. It wasn't safe, and so she had to lie. She even tells you as much when she finally (stupidly) reveals herself in the Temple of Time.

Also if I recall correctly, she's still just a crossdressing princess in the manga. After Sheik is wounded in the desert and she's brought to the Spirit Temple (pretty sure it was the Spirit Temple) to be treated, her shawl falls away and Link walks in, and realizes that her face is the same feminine Princess Zelda-face, only older. People are entitled to their preferences, but it gets extremely annoying when people insist that Sheik is male/a separate person canonically, when it isn't true. Not only is it not true, but it also takes a lot of the power and badassery away from Zelda's character, IMO, because her main method of helping out in the game was disguising herself as a boy for seven years and ninjaing around Hyrule teaching Link songs. If she didn't do that, then what did she do? Sit on her ass and wait to be captured for seven years? I just really don't think so.

But the majority of fans I see that want Sheik to be male are the yaoi fangirls that want to slash him with Link, anyway. -shrug- Pretty-boy on pretty-boy action. Not saying everyone is that way, but just the majority that I've come across.

So I looked this up and on Wikipedia and some Tekken Wiki that google sent me to. Both of them say basically the same thing. Wikipedia uses female pronounce and the Tekken wiki leaves out pronouns completely and never addresses the issue of Leo's gender whatsoever. However, between the two of them it never says anything about Leo identifying as a man or pretending to be a man or anything. So if I'm not mistaken she's just a woman with an androgynous build, masculine clothes and a masculine name...A tomboy but not transgender, perhaps?

I haven't played the Tekken game with Leo in it (yet! I don't have the money), but I couldn't find anything that confirmed her gender. All articles I found either were neutral in referring to Leo, or flip-flopped.

Can you pleeeease link me to something that confirms it so I can finally prove to my friend that Leo is a girl like I thought?

Especially using this version of Sheik. This version of Sheik is definitely female and I think it was Nintendo's answer to the whole "IS SHEIK MALE OR FEMALE OMG" because to me, the other renderings of Sheik were definitely male by proportional standards. That doesn't mean I didn't believe that Sheik's true identity was Zelda, though.

I like the explanation that was given in the manga. Sheik was a magical transformation/disguise that Zelda made to keep herself hidden from Ganondorf.

And Leo is just one of those androgynous things. I'd love to see a girl character with obvious girl features WITHOUT having ass and tits hanging out. How about that?

I'm more than happy to concede that Brawl!Sheik is female. I just wish people would stop using her as evidence that OoT!Sheik is female, too. Which, well, I somehow doubt it, considering there's a few hundred years between Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess (which is what Brawl!Sheik is based on) and the fact that they look very, very unsimilar.

So yeah, believe Brawl!Sheik is female. Hell, she looks it! Just don't apply that to OoT!Sheik as well, because it does NOT make sense.

What doesn't make sense about it? Sheik is a girl is a disguise as a guy in OoT, it's rather nonsensical assume that she's magically forced a dick onto her own body when really she could establish exactly the same effect with a good costume. And If it's established that in some continuity there's no magical penis growth, isn't it sensible to say "oh well, I guess since there is no evidence in favor of the 'magic penis growth' theory, and it would make it more consistent, I'm going to assume there's no magical cock." I mean, it makes perfect sense to me and stating that Sheik is male in OoT doesn't.

personally, yeah, i think oot!sheik and brawl!sheik aren't the same--which is why one's physically a dude and the other's physically a lady. i think it's perfectly plausible that zelda probably used magic to change herself into a guy to help escape detection or whatever. i mean, let's face it, this is the zelda series. magic can do tons of weird shit, sexbending isn't impossible at all. hell, let's look at midna for an example, or say, tp!link. their physical bodies were changed, weren't they? no reason it can't apply to the reproductive organs as well.

however! imho, the 'sheik is really a guy or girl' depends on the kind of way you're using it. as in, do we mean sex (physical) or gender (mental)? sex-wise, i personally think it's safe to say oot!sheik is male. but mentally? not really. changing into a guy wouldn't necessarily make zelda any less a female gender-wise, get what i'm saying?
