I totally understand you. I try to always write thoughtful comments, NOT loaded ones with an agenda behind them, and I don't ask pointed questions, etc. But sometimes, someone will come in with both fists raised, and act like I'm a troll, or quote things out of context, or argue with one sentence and ignore all the clarification, or just be really unnecessarily hostile. And THAT is kind of upsetting. I've gotten to the point now where if someone reacts that way, I generally just ignore it and don't respond at all.

Ooooh TIL. I am also a recovering debate bro but never had the words to explain it. Thank you, OP! And sorry your friend has a shitty asshole ruining their stream. I would reach out privately and tell them to ditch the asshole.

I really wish people would at the very least take this kind of stuff somewhere it's less likely to be seen by the people who are being spoken of. And especially if it's about kids, maybe take it somewhere entirely private where you know for sure the kid will never have to see it. Or just don't say it. But I feel like trying to make people not say certain stuff is way less effective overall than just encouraging people to be more mindful and considerate of when and where they say stuff.

Nothing loading. Maybe want to add a little context?

NAYRT

To me, this is about tone and how you word it. My dad does this sometimes, and it does annoy me and my mom. He'll act pleased as can be like he just figured out a great solution to a problem and is expecting us to praise him. But it's something we were just discussing ourselves and that he sat there and listened to us talk about. I actually think with my dad it's that he kind of zones out and isn't, like, CONSCIOUSLY listening, so he doesn't even realize he's doing it. And he genuinely thinks he came up with it on his own.

Idk about OP's boyfriend though. Is he trying to be reassuring, or condescending, or something else? Dunno for sure.

Tweet 1: [photos of child actor who is playing Harry Potter in the upcoming HBO series] "You're a lesbian, Harry"

Tweet 2: Funny thing is he doesn't look like a lesbian he just looks like a 12 year old boy. It's lesbians that look like 12 year old boys.

I’m not sure what you expected from Twitter but personally that’s pretty much exactly the reaction to the trailer I’d expect from anyone still using that platform.

That ain't funny or clever. Ya gotta let her come to the conclusion, come out, be ostracised and fired by Rowling, and everything in her own time. You go, girl young man, you go!

…because art here is Andre Butzer, quite decent contemporary expressionist.
Really? Holy shit. I know art is subjective but it honestly looks like something a fairly talented four year old would bring home from nursery school. The one on the left is almost identical to my brother’s self portrait that got him in the paper at age 4.

These kids and their newfangled replacing of irregular verbs with regular versions. You can pry my knelt, dug, dreamt etc, out of my cold dead hands. *shakes fist at clouds*

As an artist myself, I'm absolutely fascinated by artists who don't seem to have any concept of how bad their art is because when I look at my art I see every single flaw or thing I could have done better. The total lack of self-awareness is something I just don't understand.

The nazi platform is acting like assholes? Crazy.

My fandom is similar but it’s mostly on Reddit that I see the terrible art. The PTB are hosting an art contest to put on merch because the fandom has been whinging forever about the terrible merch but the stuff that’s getting submitted is even worse. There has been one good entry so far and the few good artists who are active in the fandom are sadly not participating in the contest :(

One of the things I've learnt while being an adult is that some people are just going to not like you, and there isn't a thing you can do about it. It's actually quite freeing when I realised this because then I stopped pretending to have a fake personality in order to 'win people over' some folks are going to think I'm weird and that's okay.

I've gotten to the point now where if someone reacts that way, I generally just ignore it and don't respond at all.

This is very wise, imo. I'm working on getting to this point myself. :)

There are people out there saying 'digged'?

Re: Pet peeves!

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Count yourself fortunate if you haven't run across it (yet). (╥﹏╥)

I'm definitely not recovering. I was born into debate. I majored in debate. I will debate until I die. Someone will die on this hill, and one day I know it will be me (probably because I debated my hospice nurse).

This reminds me of that one reddit comment where some guy spent like hours arguing with some other guy in good faith only to finally check the other guys profile and realize he's wasted his time arguing with someone that genuinely believes in drinking his own piss for health reasons or something like that

If someone makes wild leaps and conclusions and accusations based on absolutely nothing about one thing, I'm fine with concluding they're the type of person to do that about things, and not worth my time lol

Why are you bringing this here

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are you even on twitter? Just let it goooo.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Debate is fun but arguments on the internet are so very rarely debate and immediately get personal

+1

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree entirely but add as a former art school dropout, the one thing I could never stand was the Establishment never being willing to own up to the fact that all art is subjective. Being able to not recognize genius was always the viewer's crap taste, not the art having the potential of being crap in someone's eyes.

Then again, knowing that the giant solid color canvas type shit is usually money laundering and not art has made me pretty disillusioned for gallery art to begin with.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
At least they're trying and it's not AI slop

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

Me too! Lol. I try to ignore it and mostly I do but sometimes it's just reeeaaally hard not to respond.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I have given up on it and accepted that when it comes to art I have very plebeian tastes. I don't and never will "get" some art styles.
