(Not OP, by the way)

Teasing is one thing, but when your friends spend time actively lecturing you on why you shouldn't read Twilight and why you "can't possibly know what good literature is" if you like it, that's the point at which most people get pissed off. My friends tease me for liking certain things, but I've seen them give actual full-length lectures to Twilight fans, and I'd like to avoid that.

I personally find pretentious literary snobs to be much, much more annoying than people who are into a fandom that's considered stupid.

: / Some characters fuckin' swear. I'm not saying make some kid that never swears use fuck in a fic but if you're writing South Park fanfic what the fuck are you supposed to do?

lol no

Anon, we hate you, too.

I had this exact same reaction to the first Resident Evil game on GameCube, even though I'd been playing the series for years on other consoles. O.O And have since, but I still can't go back to that one.

Troll in the dungeon.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-27 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow somehow I did not know about this...what the heck? Usually I know about stuff Fry is doing before he does! (well...not exactly.) ANYWAY THIS IS AWESOME.

[identity profile] michygeary.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, I was hoping this was a "Car RamRod" joke.

[identity profile] michygeary.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
My friend named her car Serenity. =) But not because she was afraid to drive; just because it was kind of an old piece of shit but she still loved it. XD

[identity profile] michygeary.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It depends on the fandom for me. In soap operas? Yeah, I pretty much assumed everyone was a chick. Same with Castle. But with Red vs. Blue, I pretty much assume everyone is a dude unless they specify otherwise. And most people assume I'm a dude when they meet me on RoosterTeeth because 99% of the users there are dudes.

XKCD is a pretty popular webcomic, almost exclusively with stick figures.

Do you comment on other people's art? That's usually how you'll want to network and get more traffic for your own art. If other people know who you are, they're more likely to check out your page and watch your art when they realize it's good. Second the suggestion others have made about posting your art to some popular comms for your fandom here on LJ. And good luck. =)

(Anonymous) 2010-06-27 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I can't really speak for men since I'm not a man, but I suppose. Women are more language oriented, however, so that's why I singled my own gender out when it came to filling in the gaps.

[identity profile] michygeary.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed with a previous poster. It depends on the fandom. If it's a fandom where characters can't swear (e.g. because they are on public television) then it is out of character to do it in fic. Using a harsh word once or twice might be permissible, but not when it's overdone. The author could argue that people have to be clean-mouthed while at work (let's assume the canon takes place while everyone is at work, e.g. a hospital or police station or something) but they allow themselves to swear on their own time. But still, too much is too much.

That...makes sense.

And yet, this secret reminded me of this:

(Anonymous) 2010-06-28 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I've always thought she seemed kind of mannish. Not in a bad way.

[identity profile] sara-rojo.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
So make. new. friends. If you find them annoying and if they really do that to their friends, they have a condescending atittude with them. Not good. Maybe you should considering making ones who won't do any of that and won't annoy you

(Anonymous) 2010-06-28 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously? ReCAPTCHA seems to think you've been out in the sun too long.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-28 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I miss when people used to make fun of it just because it sucked, before the "bad messages" crap started. Raise your own damn kids. It's especially delicious when it's the same people who made fun of anti-Harry Potter people and told them to raise their own kids. Irony.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-28 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
No, it makes you mature.

[identity profile] aunt-zelda.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's that Hetalia teaches the fans history, it's that it inspires people to learn about history (and give them funny mental pictures to go along with actual events.) Having always found history fascinating, I didn't need cute bishies and HoYay to want to learn history, but it's certainly a whole new kind of fun now that I've seen/read Hetalia.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-28 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Completely off topic, but what is your icon?

[identity profile] ocean-queen-kai.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
woah, hey.

lmfao I was reading your secret going, "HUH THAT ICON LOOKS FAMILIA--ooooh..."

(Anonymous) 2010-06-28 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really care whom she loves or kisses. How can she become a queen in the first place? It's supposed to be ~5-th century AD and she's a servant for crying out loud. Guinevere was a noblewoman in the original legend. I can accept lots of things in this "fanfiction of a show" (c), but this kind of logic!fail really kills the mood for me. It is way worse than tomatoes, IMO.

[identity profile] mutualmitten.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
I have never even come across a hater before. The idea of there being masses of them is.. something unknown to me. And I wish it had stayed unknown. D:
