Also, people are forgetting all the other influences on anime, one of the greatest being the imagery of Kabuki, Bunraku and other traditional Japanese art forms.

I think Western books and essays on the subject tend to overemphasise the influence Western animation had on anime (possibly because they're written by Westerners?) in any case. The influence was there, but when people start to talk of Western animation as the only reason anime exists...

Ugh, I feel your pain. My room mate loves to sing. But her voice looks like thick, disgusting spaghetti sauce. Unfortunately, I think "Can you please shut up? Your voice reminds me of meat sauce" isn't a good way to get on her nice side.

Your interpretation is so different from mine. To me, it's a song about (slightly neurotic) ordinary people doing ordinary things, and for some reason that always soothes me and puts me in a good mood. I mean, I bicker with people like that, and I don't find it depressing. I agree that Weird Al can get pretty dark and grim (which I like), but I've never had it with this song.

Actually the saddest part for me is the fact that she doesn't get her chicken sandwich.

I love angst too. Not specifically suicide/guilt fics, but I love to write and read character death fanfictions. Actually, a vast majority of the fanfictions I write are character death fanfictions. To the point that whenever I mention that I am writing something people usually ask "who dies this time?".
So yeah, I guess that if you're screwed up, I am too.

I agree with everyone who's said that the quality of the writing can be intimidating. The characterization in Breaking Bad works on an almost subliminal level sometimes; it doesn't give you that 'fill in the blanks'-impulse many other shows do.

I know SHITTONS of people who dgaf about anime. You people always with your "AM I THE ONLY ONE"s are seriously tiring.

If you hate it so much, STOP HANGING AROUND ANIME FANS. No, seriously. The non-fans are ALL OVER THE FUCKING PLACE. And even if a lot of people do enjoy it, a lot of those people are also really casual fans who are not creaming themselves over it. Make some new friends who only like live-action movies, or dramas, or western animation, or whatever the hell it is you enjoy. There are communities all over this goddamn site that are geared entirely to all sorts of non-anime-related titles, where people will rarely, if ever, mention anything anime-related.

Tbh, I want a fandom as well. But I don't think that America will "steal them away," partially because I'm not sure if most of America will find them funny. Differing styles of humour, you know? Don't worry about it.

There isn't anything to be afraid of in the SPN fandom. There are SO MANY FUCKING COMMUNITIES it's not even funny, and tons have no Wincest in them either. Like everyone else said, check out

Meg needed to be rescued by a man, as did Jane. I have no clue who Marie, Ellie and Colette are, but can almost guarantee that their main point was being a love interest.

Lilo and Mulan are alright, but most Disney females are all about finding a man and falling in love. Miyazaki's movies aren't always so predictable, which is why I like them.

And the characters in Miyazaki films seem more thought out and original than any Disney characters, not to mention the intricate and interesting plots.

But as another Anon said further up, it's really not a good comparison as the two - Disney and Miyazaki - are basically only similar because they're animated and generally aimed at children. After that they go separate ways.
