Wow, wow, WOW.

You guys are really stupid. I mean this secret is moronic. This secret could be on Fox News. It's basically narrowing everything down to inaccurate bulletpoints. None of the points you're making are what people have actually said, they're things on the fringes.

There aren't "strong female characters" (which I am SO GLAD people are reappropriating that phrase to be a bad thing, thanks guys, really) in a sense that the female characters are actually TERRIBLE. Not just "weak" but TERRIBLE. The police officer is the "bitchy bully" to poor Sherlock, Molly is easily manipulated constantly and shamed for flirting, the older woman has her house abused and is treated like a maidservant instead of a landlord. And let's not forget John's girlfriend who couldn't TIP OVER HER CHAIR to save her life.

I could give two fucks if it's a male driven show and you enjoy it, but ignoring and writing off all the problems this show has, because don't want your enjoyment ruined by guilt, well that's shallow and lazy. You can enjoy problematic things, but stop defending them like they're perfect and throwing in a little shame for people who take a critical eye to things!

And you really think all the horrible Orientalism in the second episode was only to do with the fact that the characters were Chinese? REALLY?

I don't see that at all? In fact, one of the reasons there's so much wank is that you can't form a proper clique. Because even if your friend has mostly same opinions as you do, they'll have one that's totally different and that you'll debate ad nauseam :) Stop lurking, start talking, see where it takes you. LJ accounts at least are easy to delete.

I tried to make one for a few days but the mechanics of it confused me so badly, that I didn't bother after that and deleted it. People were also extremely rude. I mean, people are rude everywhere, but I felt really unwelcome and that a lot of people felt high and mighty about themselves.

You can have a show with male protagonists and still give the female characters a strong personality that doesn't revolve around men.

And it definitely has them, even if they are bossed around by Sherlock. Then again, Sherlock bosses everyone around, including Scotland Yard. I really do adore this version of Mrs Hudson. She's old enough to be Sherlock's mum, and apparently steals his things (it... no, it doesn't even make much sense in context, but it's still funny).

I wasn't actually angry, just confused because you were singling out a single store chain. My local video game store is called GameCrazy, and I wondered if they'd get a pass for being an independent business. Besides, when you use lines like "the industry itself is hurting so much right now from the likes of Gamestop" it comes across as though you only care about the one chain.

I also find fretting about used games strange because you don't hear other media industries talking about used CDs/books/audiobooks being resold as a major issue. They're all about "piracy is evil and must be stopped!" I've never heard someone talking about used products damaging an industry before.

I wasn't angry. Just mystified.

Honestly, I use tumblr almost exclusively to keep a large archive of adorable baby animals (nb: http://sloth-babies.tumblr.com = best thing ever) for when I'm feeling woeful, although a couple of my LJ friendships have definitely been strengthened by continuation over on tumblr.

Agreed, and WHY WHY WHY is it that whenever R/Hr is critisized, it's RON who's not good enough for HERMIONE? Why is it that the R/Hr fans are ALWAYS making arguments for why Ron is the best boy for Hermione, but not why Hermione's the best girl for Ron? I ship R/Hr, but I admit there are a few things I don't like about it, and most of those come from Hermione's treatment of Ron, not the other way around. Ron has flaws, to be sure, but most of those flaws are things that Hermione has too. They're both stubborn, somewhat closed-minded, strong-willed and willing to fight for their beliefs (which isn't a bad thing, but can lead to argumentativeness) and sometimes tactless and that's what leads to the bickering between them, not the juxtaposition of Hemione's sainthood and Ron's evilness.
Ron deserves so much better than to be treated like he has to earn her. Hermione deserves so much better than to be treated like a prize. They are both awesome, ineresting, realistic, flawed sidekicks, and they're complete EQUALS, and that's what makes their relationship work, at least for those who ship it. And if you're going to criticize it, go for it, a book is nothing without constructive criticism, but don't just act like Hermione, being the girl, is a prize; a princess that poor pauper Ron needs to overcome his unworthy ways to earn.

This is honestly why I don't participate in lj communities, so many of them more and more are becoming HIVEMIND and you just can't have a real discussion without being dogpiled by the hivemind if you ever disagree.

Some of the bigger communities are safer because more people just equals more opinions. But you have to be careful because not ALL big communities are that way, a lot of big communities got taken over by small groups of the hivemind who eventually made others quit or at least ignore the community.

Just because you don't want a fandom doesnt prevent you from getting one. There is no one I respect more then Tolkien and JK Rowling, but I still read and sometimes write fanfiction from their works, because i like exploring the ideas of what happened next, or what happened before. It has nothing to do with respect

I think I have a reason why those people love Tumblr more, and ironically it was brought up in a LJ community. XD

I tend to agree one of the main reasons lots of people use Tumblr is the instant gratification of someone else liking/reblogging your post. Sure, there are tons of pictures and gifs but it's highly impersonal website, which I partially think is because all Tumblr posts can't be friends locked. I guess if I had to put this in LJ terms, it's like one of those capslock communities for fandoms, except you're not limited to just one fandom because you can talk about all your fandoms.

I have a Tumblr but I only use mine to share something I find funny/interesting/etc. I want to share with others, no matter who follows me. That's why my Tumblr can have an informative news article for one post, then the one after it shows a funny video, then the next is some gif for how I'm feeling at the moment. But at best Tumblr is just a Facebook/journal thing that really needs to fix its reply feature and put a limit on how many gifs can be put in one post. Two or three gifs might be cute but to hell with the people who post fifty or more in one post.
