I'm kind of shy about talking about personal crap, I suppose because I'm worried about driving people away with NO1CURR. This applies both to real life and the internet, so according to you I must have very few friends.

I mean, I do, but that's beside the point.

Aren't friends people you get along with, maybe share common interests with? Is the person you hang out with every Tuesday night to talk about sports any less of a friend than the woman two floors down you swap childrearing tips with?

People can be friends for lots of reasons. Fandom can be one of them.

This is true, but remakes aren't usually intending to push the barrier of innovative new things; they're usually meant to coast off of things that are already successful, and drastic changes could risk that success. Not that I think more non-white non-male characters wouldn't go unappreciated, but there are non-offensive explanations for why they kept the status quo.

Yeesh. First off, is that wrong? I mean, you probably don't know this, but novel writers get really involved with their characters. They make them, in essence. Imagine someone corrupting something you made. Second, don't be so angry about it.

Yes, the show is good. The show is better than good. The show is awesome. But that dosen't mean that it's perfect, and you know, trust me it's not.

1) Yes, the show is called Sherlock. It's centered around Sherlock because that's the point of the show. But that is no excuse for not having properly developed female characters that have a larger stake in the plot. All the plot driving characters are male and that's a problem regardless of what people think and until it's addressed it will BE a problem.

(And while we're on female characters: Molly. I have more of an issue with how fandom sees her than how she's written. She IS actually stronger than people give her credit.)

2) The second episode is racist, full stop. I challenge ANYONE to defend the scenes set in ~china town~ that are clearly meant to look ~mysterious and dangerous~ because you can't without willful ignorance, you just can't.

3) I like this Moriarty. No complaints there.

I just think that sometimes Sherlock fandom is filled with people who are too afraid to actually take a clear look at the show and realise it's NOT perfect and it DOES have flaws and some pretty serious ones. The second you bring it up your told to stfu because NOONE cares about *anything* other than Sherlock and John. And I hate that.
