I'm working on an original story with some friends, and within about 5 seconds of story development EVERYBODY was shipping the two male leads. At first I was sort of bothered by it, because I seriously CAN'T see them in a relationship for a lot of reasons. But then I thought, hey, it means people like them, and find them attractive and think they have chemistry. So what if I don't see them as a ship, and it's not canonical?

So yeah, I totally wouldn't mind if people wrote porn about them, either XD

This is the kind of thing that makes me wince as a Hetalia fan. No matter how silly the series may be, there's still the need to be respectful about serious events. It's why I can't stand certain popular fandom things, pairings, meme-type dealies, because I had an interest in history before getting into the fandom and I know too much about the reality of certain things in certain countries' backgrounds to ever think that those things should be brought into fandom. If there was genuine awfulness there, then you should treat those things with seriousness and not make a joke out of them, or twist them to your own entertainment. I'm sorry you've had to deal with this, and I hope you and your family are doing all right.

I get how people got inspired by what happened in Japan - if you're fannish enough, inspiration might jump you for the most questionable reasons - but... oh, c'mon, you just don't make RPGs and fics like this public, where everyone can see it, only a couple days after the whole catastrophy happened/when it's not even over yet D:

I think a lot of people just don't want that personal connection. They're of the "look at me!" variety. Like people who leave LJ to start a blog but still write in it exactly as they would on LJ.

Some things in history can be taken lightly, or made light of, without any problems. Others can't and shouldn't. The whole issue is where to draw the line, and some people out there have no concept of what the line even is :/

I have a new rule. I call it the "*gasp*" rule, and it basically goes like this: If somebody feels the need to type a sarcastically-asterisked-gasp in a sentence, it's because she's constructing a blatant and irritating strawman argument. It is right and just to just keep scrolling, because you won't get a good-faith argument.

Seriously - have you ever encountered somebody who typed "*gasp*" when they weren't blatantly and idiotically misrepresenting the other side of the argument?

I KNOW! I recently finished plowing through all the DVDs, I adored the series and was super excited for fic. I was very surprised to see babies, everywhere! (Mild exageration, perhaps...)

Whatever is exciting for other people, yay for them. It's fic, after all. I was just surprised, I guess, given that there was a hell of a lot less baby fic in my other fandoms. It's just not my own cup of tea. Guess we should write some baby-free fic, eh?
