I don't know who he is but I think what he said is fine. He chooses to take on acting roles that reflect his beliefs. It's not as if he's an actor (I assume he's in a music group right?) so that would be his main focus. If he is an actor, well he can choose what job he wants.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/nightcrawler_2_/ 2011-07-10 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
See, the problem is with his beliefs, not his choices in jobs... I mean, "not believing" in homosexuality? Really?

[identity profile] twilightedge.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That could be an error in translation, by that I mean it might've been literally translated.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/nightcrawler_2_/ 2011-07-10 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know, the quote itself seems to be well-translated... anyway, the "Men and women were created with specific characteristics and duties" thing is offensive enough on its own. Too bad, he seems like an adorable dude.

(Oh, and the whole "some actors are value-oriented and some are success-oriented" quote? Nice implications thar.)

[identity profile] twilightedge.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know much about Korean culture but I'm sure it's different from American's culture. I know more about Japan than Korea but I can't say if they're as rude to women in the workplace as Japan seems to be.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/nightcrawler_2_/ 2011-07-10 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm from Central Europe, so I haven't experienced either culture, ahah.

What I do know is that half of the time I'm surrounded by bigoted assholes like this dude who don't know I'm gay, and the shit they say is frighteningly similar to this quote, only more hateful. So yeah, I'll just stick with the "LOL HOMOPHOBE" explanation. :|

[identity profile] twilightedge.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww I'm sorry. That sucks. =(

(Anonymous) 2011-07-10 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
as i mentioned below, korea is more conservative christian nation than the us, believe it or not. they still consider it a disease. as a fan of his (and honestly, it could be because i am biased so you can take this with a grain of salt), i think he's giving a canned answer so they won't be up in his asshole about it.

he's always proclaimed on how christian he is (i've heard that when the band first started, one of the members is atheist and he's tried to convert him but long since gave up) so it doesn't surprise me he would just give this answer in an effort to appeal to those fans.

He chooses to take on acting roles that reflect his beliefs

Yes. It's just that (based solely on this secret as I don't know who the guy is), those beliefs are bigoted.

Acting in accordance with your beliefs is not inherently a good thing, imo. To me, it always depends on what your beliefs actually are.

[identity profile] twilightedge.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't agree with that because I myself am a Christian. Would anyone still be up in arms about his statement if he said it about Christians? It doesn't seem likely.

[identity profile] thegutterati.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
If someone said that "they refuse to believe in the existence christians" I would have something to say about it, so I'm not so sure that argument works...

[identity profile] twilightedge.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that's good to know. It just seems like to me a lot of people like to bash on conservatives/Christians. Though it seems that these responses are due to him saying he doesn't acknowledge 'the existence of homosexuals'. Which I find a bit odd.

[identity profile] thegutterati.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I mainly have a problem with conservative christians because I see the damage they do. Some kids at my moms church through rocks at some gay prop 8 protesters. My uncle wants to kill all the gays. As a kid I went to one of the famed "jesus camps" where they literally try to brainwash you. My grandma thinks that natural disasters are gods wrath, and I know many who think that only gay people and sinners get aids, so they think that all of the children in Africa with aids are made up by the "liberal media"
I love when you all do things do that are good. Fundraisers for disaster victims, helping the homeless, that sort of thing.

tl;dr, my problem with christians is how some (hopefully the minority) handle it as a way to spread hate and bigotry.

[identity profile] twilightedge.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't understand that stuff. The Westboro Baptist guy gives Christians a bad name. He even came to our church and they started yelling at us. Why would he be yelling at fellow Christians? o_o;

I think a lot of people who don't study the Bible (Christians and non) assume that they can do what they want and are covered by grace and that God is on their side, and that justice is done etc etc. They seem to forget what Christ taught. He was just but he was also loving to his enemies. He even told Peter not to get revenge on the guards who were taking him to be arrested.

I don't understand how they can think that children in Africa with aids are made up. o_o; We have a relief fund for Haiti that we've been working with for years and we do a lot in our community too to help others and let them know about Christ. It's unfortunate thought that you've encountered those who give Christians a bad name, and I'm sorry for that.

[identity profile] thegutterati.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know what you mean. My family always yells to read the bible, and I've read it 3 times (cover to cover) and no one in my family had even read it once. They think that because I'm an atheist I can know nothing about their religion when they refuse to read their own holy book. It makes me sad. I think that if they read it they could understand their own faith so much better. (i personally read it because I believe that it's important to understand what all faiths believe, and in the u.s, christianity comes up the most so it's important to understand it).

And thank you for that. I know not all christians are like that, but it sure is frustrating to have so many like this in one area.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
As a kid I went to one of the famed "jesus camps" where they literally try to brainwash you

That's...awful. So is most of the rest of that post really. I'm so sorry you're exposed to this environment :(

[identity profile] thegutterati.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks c: It was pretty awful, but I turned out alright, so no harm was done. I just have great horror stories to tell now haha

[identity profile] peachxcandy.livejournal.com 2011-07-11 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"they think that all of the children in Africa with aids are made up by the 'liberal media'"

Um, what on Earth? I'm a conservative Christian myself, but that is just... ridiculous. Seriously though, I think a lot of what you're referring to here isn't exactly Christianity, but just plain ignorance ((though yeah, the latter is very often disguised as the former.))

[identity profile] thegutterati.livejournal.com 2011-07-11 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I realize that not all christians are like this, trust me, and I know that it is ignorance, but they use their "christianity" as a way to justify their ignorance :c It makes me sad...

[personal profile] redseeker 2011-07-10 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you mean - if he said he didn't "acknowledge" Christians, or what?

[identity profile] twilightedge.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, if he said he didn't acknowledge Christians it doesn't seem people here at F!S would be so up in arms about it because a lot of people here seem to be of the liberal etc branch where I am not.

I don't mind either way since that seems to be the norm but I just find it interesting that if it was on the other foot it doesn't seem people would say 'he's being Christian-phobic' etc. That's not a word I know hehe.
redseeker: (Default)

[personal profile] redseeker 2011-07-10 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
'Christian-phobic' isn't a phrase I've ever heard either.

I think the difference here is that Christians are not a marginalised group - certainly not in the Western world anyway - so I'm not sure how relevant the comparison is.

[identity profile] twilightedge.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm yeah, that's true. But it certainly seems to be marginalized now a days. I say that because I have a degree in art so I was pretty much the minority and at school/work it doesn't seem very conservative-friendly. Which is funny since they like to complain they're the minority when in reality it's not true.

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think what you're talking about is marginalization so much as backlash against the unfair established order. Christians are still very much in control of most parts of the western world.
